The Bosnian war was a war against people. Lots of people fled from their homes because it was too dangerous to stay there. Bosnia’s main ethnic groups ar Muslims, Serbs, and Croats they all have their own culture and way of living. One refugee, Aldina Kovac was a Catholic and she was 30 with a child on the way. She saw children being shot and people left to die because of their ethnicity. She didn’t want to start a family in a country that was being torn apart.

Aldina Kovac was born in 1963 in Bosnia and she grew up as a Catholic in Bosnia. She grew up in a good family with good friends. They wanted to stay with their parents because they are getting old and they need help. They also wanted to raise their son or daughter in their home country. Aldina and her family saw photos of children being killed and people left to die and they decided they should move to Croatia. It took a lot for Aldina and her husband to leave their country but they wanted their child to grow up in a safe environment.

Aldina and her husband moved to Croatia quickly after talking over it several times. She says all she could think about was her child's safety. Aldina and her family moved in with a very generous family for a year or two until they could have enough money to afford their own place.
