Malala Yousafzai, Alex Lin, and Iqbal Masih have several characteristics in common including that they are all teen activists. These teen activists are conscientious, determined and dedicated overall. Teen activists make a difference in many people’s lives because they speak for what’s right. Malala is a girl who stands for her rights and speaks for girl’s education and rights, Alex is a teen who believes that the environment should be improved and does not give up until the job is done, Iqbal was a young teen who had the fortune to escape child slavery and spoke about his experiences. All of them have a story to tell, which put them to many hardships and decisions.

Alex is determined to ban e-waste because he desires to ban e-waste to protect the environment. He has recycled 300,000 pounds of e-waste. All he had was an article to begin with, so he managed a team with a group of friends to help reduce e-waste. Electronic waste makes up 70% of overall toxic waste and his team had created seven media centers around the world and refurbished over 30 items for poor schools. Their goal was to ban e-waste in their town. Alex claims in a TakePart.com, “When improperly disposed of dumping, burning, etc.- these chemicals can seep into the surrounding environment, harming humans, crops, and ecosystems.” Alex knew what e-waste can do to the environment and he knows it’s affecting the world. His team and himself created a plan and petitioned a bill for banning e-waste. Unfortunately, the bill was not approved. When he was only four years old he was sold to be a rug-maker to pay a loan from his parents and if he made any errors, he was fined which would be added to the loan. He is exceptionally dedicated on the task that’s on his hands because the hardships he tolerated were incredibly difficult. For example, in his workplace, they did not treat him as well as you would think, Iqbal and the other children who worked there had to work for six days a week, and about 14 hours a day. They had to crouch on a wooden bench in front of the looms with poor lighting, and they were not even allowed to converse with each other. The air in the workplace was filled with particles from the fibers they had to work with and had no open windows or even ventilation, so it was scorching hot in the room. Luckily, in the age of ten, Iqbal had joined forces with the Bonded Labor Liberation Front (BLLF) to force his employer to free him, and Iqbal was released out of the child labor. According to MoralHeroes.org Iqbal stated “Children should have pens in their hands not tools.” It shows that Iqbal cared about his and the other children’s education. Shortly, after that Iqbal became an activist against child labor, and freed over 3000 children from bonded labor.
