Although Alexander Hamilton, a founding father of our country, was the right hand man of our first president George Washington, he presented great leadership. He always tried to do what was right for America, including making our first national bank, similar to how Odysseus always tried to do what was right for his men. Also like Odysseus, Alexander Hamilton was stubborn, blinded by some of his ideals, and at times could act like an overly emotional teenager. Centuries before Alexander Hamilton, the man who wrote like he was running out of time, was even born, Homer wrote The Odyssey, which presented the heroic Odysseus. Odysseus, like Hamilton, exhibited multiple traits that made him a famous leader.

Although it may be true that Odysseus is a good leader, he is still a human and makes mistakes. After he is on the sea once again with his crew, escaping the cyclops, Odysseus was cocky and wanted to taunt Polyphemus from afar. "... Now when I cupped my hands I heard the crew in low voices protesting: 'Godsake, captain! Why bait the beast again? Let him alone!'" (Od. 9. 405-408). His men attempt to stop him, but his cocky attitude could not be avoided; Odysseus not only calls out to Polyphemus and makes fun of him for losing to a human man, but he exposes his real name once again and even screams where he is from. This results in angering the giant cyclops, as well as Polyphemus calling out to the gods to put a curse on the great Odysseus. In addition, after climbing up to Circe's hall to save his men, he makes love to Circe as part of a deal. He is quite full of himself after this; Circe asks Odysseus to bring up his remaining men from the beach below so they can join in. "Now, being a man, I could not help consenting" (Od. 10. 114). Him saying such a thing can be viewed as a small self-confident response with no meaning attached, but it is pure unloyalty. He claims that now he is a "man," he will listen and obey the requests Circe offers. His wife Penelope may never find out what happened, but if she did, it is surely going to put him in a position he may not want to experience. Similarly, when Odysseus and his crew escape the island of the cyclops, Odysseus uses Polyphemus' greatest ram as a sacrifice to Zeus, so he can get Zeus on his side. "My ram... I slew him by the seaside and burnt his long thighbones to Zeus.... But Zeus disdained my offering" (Od. 9. 467- 471).
