Alice Yang Murray is a professor at the University of California. She teaches history specialized in World War II and what happened between the US and Japan, which brings the topic of writing this book. She wrote this book to show the horrifying things that the government did to the Japanese after the attacks of Pearl Harbor. To show the real history and the real events that government does not show in the history books.
The Murray’s main purpose is to spread what happened to the all Japanese people during the World War II. She uses five other researchers and activist specialized in this topic, to support her argument and also to let the reader hear the opinion of other researchers. She starts with the first topic written by Roger Daniels on “Why were the Japanese Americans interned during World War II?” (29). In this section, he talks about the massive internment of Japanese. Daniels talks about how the government did not want the Japanese before and especially after the attack on Pearl Harbor. After the attacks on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese, Japanese in America were seen as enemies. The government passed many laws against the Japanese to stop them from coming to America. There were many people that did not want them at all, many people supported the mass removal of Japanese people from the west coast. After the attack, Japanese had to sell their houses in less than two weeks. Then they were sent to internment camps. All Japanese were seen as enemies even if they were US citizens. A lot of unfair stuff were going on in the country against the Japanese, conspiracies tried to take the Japanese people’s businesses and put them in white people’s hands. The author also uses his own experiences and he talks about the time FBI agents went inside his house, he explains how scared he was but at the same time happy because the agents didn’t found anything that would get his family in
