...added to any math problem is just absolutely astounding to me. Every math problem I have ever encountered seemed great and challenging. What a thrill, right? You might be wondering why does she think math is so entertaining, is she crazy? Basically, I have had an interesting experience with math, had great knowledge of math, and had been thought to be a good candidate for being in the math field, which has led to my love of math. Of all experiences I have had with mathematics, one I am quite fond of is when I got the highest score in the class, and got everyone’s test...

...Algebra II is my favorite class related to the focus of the Science, Mathematics, Computer Science program. I learn many things that may help me in real-life situations and help me understand how computers work. One of the most interesting things I learned about was Linear Programming because we solved real-life problems using it. One problem was about a company selling two types of trail mix. Each type of trail mix used the same two ingredients, but different quantities. There were constraints on the ingredients. We learned to write equations for the constraints, graph them, and find a feasible region. We wrote the profit equation and tested the points of intersection from the feasible region to find which combination had the greatest profit. Matrices were also interesting to me. I found them fascinating because they help me understand how computer programs do complex functions. We learned about row reduction, determinants, and inverses. Study, work, and interaction are very important in math class....

...Math and Me Vanessa Bashore MM212: College Algebra “We both just did out fives yesterday, how can she be doing her sixes already today?” I can remember thinking this like it was yesterday instead of 29 years ago. I was in first grade, and we were doing our times tables. I had been the first one to do all of my numbers so far in the class, and now Sara was up there doing her sixes before I knew them. That would just not do for me, so that night I went home and learned the rest of my numbers, six through nine, to be able to do them for the teacher the very next day. I guess you can say that this is where my love for math started. I am not saying that I never had to study or that I have never struggled with any math in my life, but for the most part, most of the math classes I have taken in my life have come pretty easily to me. I love when you are struggling with something in math and all of a sudden you have that a-ha moment where everything suddenly makes sense. In the past I have taken all the basics in math including Algebra and Geometry. However, these courses were also taken almost 20 years ago, and I have to admit that I am a bit rusty when it comes to all of the formulas and properties. Even though I may not remember all of the formulas, I still consider my previous courses a success. I may not remember the exact formula, but I do remember that the formulas exist and it is just a matter of looking the formula up and plugging in the right numbers to get the correct...

...I Have had many challenging things that I have went through throughout my whole life but the biggest challenge that have been fighting throughout my whole life is math. Math has been my biggest dilemma since I started middle school. When I say I hate math I really mean I hate it. I hate everything about it. I am in high school going on a senior at Wichita East High School. I have many math classes and I still hate math. When I was a little boy, I was in elementary school so math was easy. I actually loved math because it was as easy as a kid. Math was my favorite subject. I went to many elementary schools as a kid. The school that I can remember are Kelly elementary, Reawoodman elementary, and Mueller elementary but I am sure that there are...

..... Overview ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of computer-based mathematics curriculum on problem solving and the students’ attitudes toward computer-based mathematics. Participants will be my 3rd grade students who will receive 2 hours weekly computer-guided math instruction along with their regular Math Investigations. The computer program that will be used in this study is Edutest. Edutest is a computer program that focuses on problem solving strategies, geometry, number sense, logic patterns, measurement, probability, and word problems that are in line with the district standards. The students will work independently on the computer with computer-guided instruction. During the study, students will take a pre test and posttest as well as on-going daily instruction in mathematics along with teacher made assessment tests in mathematics to measure their achievement levels. I will also take an attitude survey to gauge their feeling about using computer mathematics. A survey was given pre study and post study. This information was used to assist me in planning and implementing computer-based curriculum and to see whether their attitudes towards computer math will have an effect on how well they implement the program. I chose to study math because I enjoy teaching mathematics....

...was lucky enough to be taught by a new trainee Maths teacher and was inspired by the energy and enthusiasm he brought to the classroom. His commitment to ensuring we would thrive and succeed was something I deeply admired. From that point on I have always had a keen focus on a career in Maths. It is a subject I am passionate about and I would love the opportunity to share this passion with others. I have devoted a large amount of time to acquire first-hand experience in the field of teaching and Mathematics. During a placement in a secondary school I observed key stage 3 and GCSE Maths lessons. This has given me a real insight to life in the classroom and has shown me the challenges I could face. In addition I have led presentations at both Sixth form and Year 6 open days at school. My role involved demonstrating Maths challenges and helping students to complete problems. With these opportunities I have been able to share my knowledge and passion of Mathematics with others and expand their understanding, which I found very rewarding. This has given me confidence in my own abilities; not just in Maths but my level of communication with others. Through my role as a Maths tutor I gained experience giving one to one sessions with Year 11 students. I planned sessions that would help them prepare for their GCSE Maths exam, being sat at higher level and foundation. I quickly learned how important it is to differentiate work so that all levels of abilities could be reached and accessed...

...When assessing my my multiple intelligence's using the survey by Robert M. Sherfield I found out that of the 8 types my top 3 are Visual/Spatial, Musical/Rhythm, and Logic/Math. I scored the highest on Musical/Rhythm followed by Logic/Math then Visual/Spatial. After learning about the differences in the 3 categories it comes to no surprise that those are my top 3. I have been a avid music fan all my life enjoying almost all types of music. Math has always been a strong subject of mine during school. The visual part of the multiple intelligence's allows me to look at an object and change it in my mind to see what can be made different or better. It helps to verify similar objects and why they are similar. It helps me to create charts or graphs depicting the work that I wish or need to accomplish. The musical/rhythm side of me helps my studying when I play music in the background while working or studying. I am usually taping on something to the beat of a song when I’m listening to music. I tend to make up words to a song even when I know the lyrics. The new lyrics usually are more on the comical side. The logic/math part is probably the one I relate to the most. I tend to pick up on math work fairly quick. I see patterns and can figure out how they will continue. I can do a decent amount of math in my head cause I can visualize myself doing the work. When putting these 3 multiple intellingences together and thinking about how they apply to how I solve problems and complete...

...I have a strong interest towards video games. I have been playing games ever since I was five. My very first game was Sonic Heroes on the Nintendo GameCube. I was completely hooked on games, to the point where I played non-stop and did not work on any school work. Eventually, I saw games as a pastime and managed my time to effectively play games and do homework. Also, when I am stressed about anything, I would go and play games to vent and calm down. During third grade, I already knew I wanted my life to revolve around gaming. When my teacher at the time saw my interest in games, he told me to try and work towards becoming a game designer. I agreed and tried to work on mainly my math skills, since he told me that math was essential to creating games. From thereon, I pushed myself to get better with math. It was easier for me to do so, since I already had fun solving math problems....

...4CL Villafania, Ian Christian S. SECTION: Copenhagen Learnings and experiences in Math 1 In my years studying math I have realized that math is essential for life. Having this said, it is quite obvious that math could easily be as old as humanity itself. The topic that I like the best is when our instructor teaches about the quadratic equation it is difficult but I try and pursue to understand even though it’s so difficult. I always study about this topic because I really don’t know how to solve it that’s why I research something about things and I also talk to our instructor and ask some questions about the topic that I don’t understand. I did it because I really want to learn and I want to pass this subject. I like...

...Mathematics skills play an important role in our lives. To understand math we must read our math books, and understand the use of technical terms like equation, integration and many more. Understanding terms is only part of learning mathematics skills. Comprehension and analysis is needed to understand math concepts. You cannot learn mathematics by being a spectator; you must perform the calculations yourself. Reading a solution in a book and watching someone else solve the problem is not sufficient, although it helps, you must use your brain to solve the problems and write out the full solution. If you are provided with the answers to a math problem or problems you may be able to see how each answer fits, but it is very different working out the problem yourself. The real understanding is if you can do the necessary work yourself or not. Mathematics Study Skills Knowing mathematical principles and concepts can help you to succeed in school and work. It is important to use study skills that apply well to math. The following are some study skills that should be utilized: * Study math everyday during the semester. * Have a specific time and place to study with few distractions. * Keep up to date with homework. * Find an alternative text when you are having trouble understanding the text. * Take notes and copy all the steps of the math problems. * Ask questions when you are confused. * Work problems until you understand them, not until you get the answer...

...others to do their best. I am acknowledged not only for my independent successes but also for my ability to work with other students and be a leader in the classroom environment. I often finish my work quickly, which presents me with plentiful opportunity to assist other students with their own assignments. Peers are often more approachable than a teacher, so it is extremely important that I work to provide an additional way for my classmates to find understanding in class content. For example, in my AP Computer Science class last year, I would roll around to my friends every day...

...Strategies to Overcome Math Anxiety Classroom Skills * Your instructors want you to succeed. Remember, they are unsuccessful unless you are successful. Your instructor wants you to learn the material and is willing to help when you ask questions. * Ask questions when you become stuck or as soon afterwards as possible. * Make your questions as specific as possible. It is easier for your instructor to answer a question such as, “I don’t understand how to solve for x when the equation begins with a fraction” than “I just don’t understand this section. Can you help me?” In addition, by making your questions as specific as possible, you can sometimes find the answer on your own. * Even if you do not understand what the textbook explains yet, read it over before class. When you have some knowledge about the concepts before they are presented, you will find them easier to understand. * Embrace word problems. Although they are sometimes corny, word problems are the gateway to using your math in real life. * If you are taking a math class at your local campus, sit near the front of the class. * Take advantage of your campus’s help sessions and the CME online coaching. Studying for Exams * Study everyday instead of cramming for exams. Review previous materials everyday for about a half hour to help you retain skills. * Do not multitask when you are studying. Cognitive psychologists find that multitasking makes you less efficient at everything...

...November 20, 2011 Academic and Professional Success UNIV103-1104B-276 My Foundations Labs lets you evaluate your academic foundational skill set so you can self-motivate to enhance your strengths and strengthen your weak areas. We completed sections in Math, Reading and Writing in My Foundations Lab. I completed assignments in Math, Reading and Writing sections of My Foundations Lab. I started off by first doing the Reading section of the assignment first. I chose this section first since I thought it would be my stronger section. I then went on to the writing section and then last did the math section since I thought this would be my toughest section. I really enjoyed completing these assignments in the My Foundations Lab. It gave me a sense of where I was and what I needed to work on and really was a big refresher for me. I like the process it takes of letting you complete the work then identifying your weak spots then creating additional work to focus on your weak areas. My strengths were in the reading section of the course and my weakness was in the writing section. I was really surprised by the results. I thought that the math section would be my weak point. I am planning on retaking the writing section of this course to try and better myself and also complete the learning path modules. I think by doing this it will make me a stronger writer and help me with my career. I might have gotten distracted during that section and want to retry. For...

...Common Application Essay Throughout my life I have experience failure just like every other normal human being. But unlike some people I choose to learn from my mistakes and do my best to never repeat them again. One account of failure that I remember is when I failed Algebra in freshman year. Math has always been my weakest subject. I never understood or could remember all the steps and rules needed in Math. It was nothing like memorizing vocabulary in Biology or reading a book and answering the questions in English. You can’t do that in Math because unlike the other subjects, Math questions and answers are never the same. In English the “Lord of the Flies” will always be written by William Golding and in History...

...use Math in everyday Life DeVry University Math-032 October 9, 2012 How I use Math in Everyday Life Math is everywhere you go. It is at the store when you go groceries shopping, when you go out for dinner, when you’re at work, and even when you’re asleep. We are always using some kind of fraction throughout the day. I deal with numbers just about everywhere I go. Math has always been on my vocabulary since I was young. Coming from a house of five, I deal with math every single day. I have to use math for my bills, the rent, groceries, gas, things that are important in the house. Now that I completed eleven and half years in the united Stated Marine Corps, I deal with a tremendous budget in my house. I know that things are not the same because I don’t have a steady income coming in I have to keep track of our expenses and cut back on a lot of unimportant expenses. No matter what we do whether it’s at work, home, or out in town, numbers will always be a factor. Math will be involved and that’s the good think about life. Most people need a solid understanding for financial success and math is the answer. (Huebsch, 2009) In life, you will always have that percent that only need to learn numbers to a certain point. We engage numbers at a very young age. No one really knows how long numbers have been around for. Most people understand the concept of numbers, equations, and the use of daily concepts. (Melayu, 2009) I could say that Im that percentage in my in this...
