...XXXXXXXXX Professor Marcus PSY260 SEC141 May 23, 2011 Additional Final Paper Questions In this paper I am going to take into consideration the important and central relationship that I share with my son, XXXXX. I will discuss the disorder, traits and symptoms that best fit each of us independently. I will analyze and reflect on why these traits and symptoms lend themselves to a mostly good, positive, and harmonious relationship that we share. My relationship with my son wasn’t always harmonious. When he was six years old I got sent to Federal Prison for eight years. I committed two bank robberies in Manhattan as a direct result of being a drug addict. I used drugs most of my life, from the age of 12, starting with marijuana. However, at the age of 31, after being stabbed five times, I started using heroin. I used it to relieve the pain... I ended up doing seven years and two months in federal prison. Prior to this incarceration I was an everyday part of my son’s life. We lived together. I took him to, and picked him up from school. We played together, ate together, sometimes even slept together. When I was sent to prison I tried my best to maintain a relationship with him via the mail and telephone calls. We did not get to see each other during this time. My son was thirteen when I was released. It was not easy getting back my relationship with him. Rather, creating a new, honest, supportive, and loving relationship with him. I have many...

...picking up my six year old, Xavier, from school and like always, I asked him how his day went and what color did he earn for the day. He is in kindergarten and they are ranked for their behavior of the day using a color system. When he comes home with pink, it means he had a great day, green means a good day, yellow means a day in which they struggled to follow orders or behave, and red meaning they were sent to the principals office. My son immediately replied that he earned green, I congratulated him and that was that for that particular conversation. The conversation was later picked up at home after dinner when he was doing his homework. The setting of this conversation took place at our kitchen table when I was looking over my son’s folder so that I could initial it on the square that has the graded color for the day. His teacher requires the parents to initial the folder everyday, that way she knows that we are actually looking at our kid’s folders. The first thing I noticed when I opened my son’s folder was that the color green was marked in pretty dark for that day, it seemed as if he put a lot of pressure on the green marker. Next to his color there was a note from the teacher that read, “Xavier had a rough day at school today because he cut Rosaura’s hair with a pair of scissors.” I immediately turned to my son and asked him if he had cut a classmates hair with scissors. The expression on his face changed from a smile to a frown before I even finished my question...

...human being at any stage of his development. It embraces every phase of human character: intellect, temperament, skill, morality, and every attitude that has been built up in the course of one's life." (Warren & Carmichael, 1930, p. 333) (In an acknowledged overstatement...) "Personality is the essence of a human being." (Hall & Lindzey, 1957, p. 9, characterizing statements by Gordon Allport) "An individual's pattern of psychological processes arising from motives, feelings, thoughts, and other major areas of psychological function. Personality is expressed through its influences on the body, in conscious mental life, and through the individual's social behavior." (Mayer, 2005) When first reading the assignment on writing a paper about key personality, many thoughts came to mind. More question then anything. Having a background turns personality on and off. People now days can find information on an individual quick. Leaving the individual wondering if they’re going to be stereotype and have to playing off the other person emotions. Nevertheless, a person grows weather it’s mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, or worldly. Traits do came from...

...have been working on is the different methods of discipline with my son, Haiden. The discipline method my husband and I were using with Haiden did not seem to work at all. I was starting to get frustrated that he would never learn or change his ways. One day I happened to read an article about how children react differently to different discipline methods. So I decided to test the theory on Haiden to see if maybe we were just using the wrong method. We began first by identifying the different methods that we thought might work for Haiden. From there we decided to implement the first method and try it for a few weeks to see if his behavior improved, worsened, or stayed the same. The first method was when he disobeyed he would be grounded to his room for the weekend. The first method did not work. His behavior stayed the same. The second discipline method we used was giving him additional chores when he disobeyed. His behavior got worse with the second method. The third method we are actually still trying is every time he disobeys he is to write on a sheet of paper 20 times, what he did wrong and what he should have done instead. Plus he needs to correct what he did. For example; he was at a friend’s house and went into the sister’s room and destroyed some of her things. The damage was $10.00. So he had to pay for half of the damage with his own money, write her an apology letter, and then write on a sheet of paper 20 times that he is not allowed to touch other peoples belonging...

...An experiment to show effect of the temperature on the action of an enzyme Abstract The experiment was to analyse what reaction temperature would have on Amylase enzyme. We heated alpha amylase solution to set temperatures then tested for the presents starch with iodine solution. Any starch would turn the iodine black. Once the starch had broken down the iodine would remain brown to suggest the presents of maltose. Usually I would expect to find that the reactions would increase as the temperature increased. After it reached its optimum temperature then the reaction would slow down rapidly or stop all together. However throughout the experiment we uncovered a number of flaws, the flaws would have contributed to the failure of this experiment and the rejection of my hypothesis. Introduction Enzymes are proteins that were made during protein synthesis. They are globular in shape and of a tertiary structure that has an active site. The protein molecules act as a catalyse biochemical reaction in living organisms. (Indge, B (1993), A-Z Biology. London. Wearset. 90). A catalyse is something that makes a chemical reaction happen more quickly without itself being changed. This means that enzymes can be re-used. Enzymes work by lowering the activation energy necessary to start a reaction. As less energy is necessary, biochemical reactions can take place at the temperatures and pressures found in living cells. (Indge, B (1993), A-Z Biology. London. Wearset. 90). ...

The technology that was presented was around 1949 in which no modern computers or emails existed. A salesman had to travel by car on his own to create income for his family and although many salesmen had family to support in cities where they would have to leave for weeks at a time, the salesman would always find time for his or her family. The salesman name is Willy in which his family is mentioned throughout the play. At the beginning his wife Linda, is always very supportive of his views towards his sales career as Willy has to make sales all over the United States and travels a lot in order to make his career strong. Willy Loman, an old salesman, returns early from a business trip. After nearly crashing multiple times, Willy has a moment of enlightenment and realizes he shouldn't be driving. Seeing that her husband is no longer able to do his job as a traveling salesman, Willy's wife, Linda, suggests that he ask his boss, Howard, to give him a local office job at the New York headquarters. ...English 130 Final Draft of English Term paper African American Body issues. There are a lot of pictures showing mothers, their sons, and relationship structures in families. I obtained this image by searching for ‘juvenile delinquent families’ on GOOGLE. The picture itself was a still from EBONY magazine, published in 2005, showing the inevitable consequence of the youth having children, and the alarming rate at which this happens in the US. Since EBONY magazine focuses on the current events of African American celebrities and the culture as a whole, it would make sense that the audience is predominantly African American, but also frequent readers of the magazine. The picture actually has 2 parts to the overall image. The first part is set in the Bronx, and has three members of an African American family (a father, son and mother), standing aloof from each other. The other image tied to this picture shows the boy a few years older, but behind bars. The caption highlights single mom homes as a leading cause for juvenile delinquents. This image negatively predicts that broken African-American families lead to criminal children. What initially captured my attention was the facial expression of the father in the image. His head is turned to the side and he has a look of disgust as if to say: “I want nothing more to do with my wife or my son”. His facial expression also highlights a stern young adult, which gives the picture more of a “thuggish outlook”. His...

...Marry Me MISFIT. By kerra white Marry Me Mistfit, That is not a joke. The Mistfit seems to be a mysterious guy, who honestly has no idea why he was being punished, "I call myself The Misfit […] because I can't make what all I done wrong fit what all I gone through in punishment" (Pg. ). The story goes thorough and he is the major topic on people’s mind ever since he escaped the ‘pin’. He seems intelligent, but is the one character that actually questions life and religion. The Misfit was Put away in Prison for killing his father, but as the story goes on, he questions why he was punished, he was convinced that he had not killed his father. He spoke with certainly that His father, Had died from the epidemic flu, and he was charged with a false crime."It was a head doctor who said what I had done was kill my daddy but I known that for a lie. My daddy died in nineteen ought nineteen of the epidemic flu and I never had a thing to do with it. He was buried in the Mount Hopewell Baptist churchyard and you can go there and see for yourself." (pg.) The Misfit seems to be a very confusing person, He was talking to the old Lady about where he came from, and when the old lady asked about his parents, he told her that they were the “finest people in the world” (pg.), and even states that his “daddy’s heart was pure gold” (Pg.). But what seems to be the question was the misfit lying about killing his father or was he innocent? The question is never really told, but from the ending...

...Nonfiction Reaction Paper ENG/125 Nonfiction Reaction Paper The nonfiction stories I have decided to write about are; “Who Will Light the Incense When Mother’s Gone?” by Andrew Lam and “Salvation” by Langston Hughes. Both of these stories are about a significant event in the authors lives in which they choose to write about. “Salvation” is a story about the author trying to find his way into the church and finally see the light or Jesus so his soul will be saved and his sins forgiven. ; “Who Will Light the Incense When Mother’s Gone?” was a writing about his mother having a hard time with the American culture and how her son, the author Andrew Lam, will be when he leaves home and how the traditions she raised him on slowly will disappear along with her when she passes along. Both stories seem to send a message of events in the author’s lives where they wrote about them because of certain memories in their lives, and I will briefly go through each story in different ways. Summary of Strategies by the Authors I think Langston Hughes in “Salvation” tries to get the reader to imagine a hot sweltering church on a balmy Sunday morning. This would be the setting for the young boy at 12 years of age trying to see Jesus in another aspect because he is becoming of age for the church. The authors strategy is not to confuse the reader but to make the reader understand that Langston was not lying about seeing Jesus but in fact did not believe in Jesus because he left the boy...

...Reaction Paper-Fiction: Short Story “Misery” by Anton Chekhov Scott Battaglioli University of Phoenix “Misery,” written by Anton Chekhov is a story about a lonely old sledge driver in 19th century Russia. In the story, Iona Potapov has just lost his son a week before. He is drowning in grief, expressed by his sitting still on his sledge and allowing himself to be covered in snow. He is a man who seems to have lost all hope. The only thing that Potapov wants is to discuss the loss of his son with another human being. He longs to connect to someone and try to make sense of the situation. Maybe he just seeks to connect so that he does not feel so alone. In this story Chekhov was trying to illustrate his belief that people have grown accustomed to the suffering of others, and therefore pay little attention to it. Chekhov shows us different characters with different personalities, but all indifferent to Potapov’s plight. The military officer is impatient and rude. He pretends to be deep in thought to avoid the conversation with Potapov. The three young men are self-absorbed and rowdy. They take advantage of Potapov’s grief and pay him an unfair wage. They also so abusive behavior towards him. The young cabby at the yard shows complete indifference to the older man’s suffering by falling asleep while Potapov bears his soul. Potapov’s final chance to get his feelings out comes with his horse. Though she cannot answer, she can listen. I think most people can...

...ACT V Through Scene 1 of Act 5, the reader gets a “new” Lady Macbeth. In the beginning of the play, Lady Macbeth was seen as a strong woman (who cast a spell to become a “man). She seemed very fearless and non paranoid while plotting and assisting in the murder of Duncan. Gentlewoman tells the Doctor how Lady Macbeth had been getting up from bed, taking paper, writing on it, reading it, and then going back to bed (all in her sleep). When Gentlewoman declines to reveal what Lady Macbeth was saying, Lady Macbeth enters with a candle (taper). Now, both Gentlewoman and the Doctor witness and observe Lady Macbeth’s sleepwalking. Her sleepwalking reveals that her ramshackle conscious is restraining her from staying calm. It also...
