Bark. Here is a sample essay for you to not look at. Thanks. In order for this to be long enough, I need to have two hundred and fifty words. Let’s see how far I can get without using any extra spaces or numbers. How are you? I am good. What is the weather like over there? It’s about fifty degrees and we have not gotten snow in about two weeks. How far are you? About eighty words so far. Quite a few more for me to go. What do you think? Hm… I suppose that I can continue to listen to Eminem. Or is it Slim Shady? Only the shadow knows. Speaking of shadows, do you know if a tree falls in a forest and no one is there, does it make a sound? Yes it does, of course. I can also tell jokes. What do you call a lazy kangaroo? A pouch potato! Yes, I know that was a bad joke. I also have more jokes if you would like to hear. Here is more of my essay. How far now? About one hundred and eighty nine words. Yep. Everything looks like it is eight mile now. Really? It is a lot safer in this area than downtown Detroit. Did you know that Detroit is not as dangerous as people seem to believe that it is? Actually Hamtramck is much worse. People have to lock their doors as they drive through the city since people will come up to one’s car and try and take parts off of it as it moves. Scary, huh? All done!

Fun with Dogs

...great things people do with their dogs. Most activities welcome all dogs, whether purebred or of mixed breed heritage. Some of these activities are classed as "working dog" activities, but are also done on a recreational basis, or as a public service. Some dog activities are purely recreational in nature, while others are competitive dog sports. Many of these activities may be new to you. I have chosen my links based upon how welcoming they are to the merely curious. People who play with their dog, stay with their dog. Why do dog activities matter? Why promote them? Dog activities matter because they help dogs keep their homes. When people and dogs do things together it is good news all around. Many of these activities provide the structure that helps people learn to better communicate with their dogs. The dogs have a better opportunity to learn good manners. That makes them easier to live with and less likely to be given up. The activities help people get in touch with one another to share information. That also helps people to learn about dogs, to avoid problems, and to solve them in a healthy way. The activities provide exercise in a fun way that boosts the relationship. The exercise, in turn, reduces boredom. A dog that exercises with its human is less likely to have behavior problems. A wonderful side benefit is that these activities can be a mental boost for humans and dogs alike. Do we need lessons on having fun with our dogs? All the evidence is, yes, we need to...

Service Dogs

...and registration for Service Dogs Dessie Marek UMUC Abstract In today’s evolving society, there is more mobility that ever for people with disabilities. One of the things that allows this to happen is the use of service animals. Problems however arise when people try to cheat the system. Attempts to pass off pets as service animals, improperly trained animals, and businesses with lack of knowledge on laws all contribute to ongoing frustrations. The need for a centralized training standard as well as government registration and regulation of service animals is clear and immediate. If standards can be established within breeding clubs for “Good Citizen” training, then it can be done for service dogs. Then, once they are trained to standard, there is no reason an official registration system cannot be implemented. The simple act of giving an official ID to actual service dogs would alleviate the stress from business owners as well as handlers. It really is just common sense. Centralized training and registration for Service Dogs Disabilities can be life changing and world altering circumstances. For many people becoming disabled meant living a lesser life, that is until they discovered service dogs. In the united states more and more uses are being found for service dogs every day. This of course leads to frauds and problems. How do they deal with it all? Easy! There needs to be a centralized standard of training and registration system for all service animals in the united...

...Atlanta High School Dog Eat Dog Jessie Reynolds AP English IV- 5th Period BB 02 December 2015 Jessie Reynolds BB AP English IV-5th period 16 November 2015 Dog Eat Dog Cute and cuddly describes a lot of dogs you see daily, but are all dogs nice and friendly? All people treat dogs differently, giving them lots of attention daily, while some give them none at all. The way dogs act around people and other dogs depends on the way they were raised. Dog fighting is a dangerous sport, where people train different types of “fighters”, and eventually end up killing the dog, or causing life-long disabilities. To start off, there are a couple of different “fighters”, which include street fighters, and professionals (Destreza). These fighters can be everyday people ranging from teachers, lawyers and doctors, to regular people who work at a restaurant. Woman are more sympathetic to dog fighting, so it is usually men who are more involved in it (Lee). The “street” fighters are people who only do it once or twice, or very rarely. Their dogs usually are not as experienced, and not necessarily aggressive, just a little meaner than regular dogs. Their fights are in backyards, garages, or any little secluded place. The fights are just for bragging rights, or for fun. The dogs...

Police Dogs of America

...The idea of the police dog is not uncommon among our communities, we know that they’re out there and we have a general idea of the responsibilities that these dogs carry; but in reality what do we really know about police dogs? Everyone has their own set of feelings towards the idea of the police dog. Some people are afraid, some are curious and some are oblivious to the fact that police dogs are out there and that they have a job. The question is what exactly is their job, what can they do, who trains them, where do they live? There is so much that is unknown by the general public. Dogs have been used for similar tasks through out time; whether their job was protection or tracking, dogs have been trained by man to perform specific tasks since the bond between man and canine was forged. It was only a matter of time before modern police forces came upon the idea of training and using these animals to better their forces. United States police dogs began service in 1907. They first hit the streets in New Jersey and New York City. These new units had a lot to learn so canine teams operated on a trial and error basis. Over the years these units gained valuable experience that lead to the development of new training methods and technology for today’s canine units. (Bryson 31). The idea of the police dog is not a single entity; the dog has to have a handler. The dog and handler together create the police dog team or more commonly referred to as a Canine Unit. The team begins with...

The Truth About Pitbulls

...Bull breed of dog has a very bad reputation. This is because Pit Bulls are used as fighting dogs for some people’s amusement. Little do people know Pit Bulls are very good family dogs, and often called “The Nanny Dog”. I personally own three Pit Bulls, and have interviewed someone who does not own a pit bull. I have found a lot of information about this breed of dogs and everything points to one question. Although some individuals perceive pit bull dogs to have a bad reputation, many have found these animals to be wonderful house pets when treated with kindness and love. The stereotype of a pit bull is not good at all, but why does this stop people from owning them? I asked a non pitbull owner why she will not own a pitbull. “I personally got bit by a pit bull, so I have seen what they are capable of and this scares me. These dogs have a very powerful jaw and it makes being bit worse. I’m just personally scared of this breed of dog. Being scared of this breed of dog because of being bit by one, makes me weary of going to other people’s homes that own this breed because I’m scared of being bit again.” (Cassie Bailey’s personal interview). I also interviewed a pitbull owner as well. “By owning the pit bull breed for most of my life I have never had a problem out of any of the dogs I have had. The pit bull breed has a bad name, but my dogs have never bit or attacked anyone. My dogs are very loyal and very loving, more of a lap dog than anything. These dogs are very misunderstood...

Breed Specific Legislation Isn’t Fair

...profiling and as of yet it has not worked to curb the amount of serious dog attacks it was put in place to stop” (pitbulllovers, 2007). Breed Specific Legislation, or BSL are a set of laws that restricts breeds of dog or completely bans the breed from an area. BSL has banned the American Pit Bull Terrier from multiple states in America, and even some European countries. In this essay I will prove the unnecessity of BSL. This essay will go more in depth on what BSL is all about, it will educate the readers about the American Pit Bull Terrier breed and the pit bull family as a whole, and it will provide possible alternatives. Breed Specific Legislation made its first notable appearance in 1984. “In 1984, a New Mexico town completely banned pit bulls and allowed county officers to confiscate and euthanize the dogs” (animallaw, 2007). BSL was made to try to regulate specific breeds of dogs. Usually, BSL targets breeds that are thought of as dangerous breeds. Proponents of BSL claim that BSL is a great way to reduce the threatening pit bull breed (animallaw, 2007). People who support BSL usually have imagined pit bulls as vicious dogs bred just to fight. BSL is slowly being seen as ineffective laws because leaders of communities are being educated more about pit bulls. Pit bulls are not necessarily a breed of dog. Pit bulls are a category of dogs more than a breed. Pit bull usually groups 3 breeds of dog, “the American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT), American Staffordshire Terrier (AMSTAFF)...

The dog will always be around to protect their handler and the fellow officers. Losing the dog on the job can be hard, but at least the officer will know that the canine officer died protecting civilians. Canines are able to solve different crimes because they have a better sense of smell and agility than most humans have. Being a K9 officer will be a great advantage to me because of all the different crimes that the dog and officer can stop. Fun facts abound about police canines. Robbie, a previous police canine, came over from Slovakia. Robbie, a German shepherd, was Officer Steve Roux’s dog before Officer Roux became Chief. Robbie then became Mike Carroll's...

Pitt Bulls

...August 20, 2011 Pit Bulls: Mean or Misunderstood? By Andre Bourgeois Thesis: There is no other dog that conjures up fear and terror by the mere mention of their name as the pit bull. American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) aka Pit Bull brings fear to people because of the amount of human fatalities these dogs are supposedly involved in. The media would have you believe that these deaths are on the rise and is of epidemic proportions with the pit bull being the main perpetrator. An urban legend is that they have Locking jaws and have a super strength bite force. Another myth is that they are aggressive towards people, and go insane. Most people don’t realize is that the term “Pitt bull” is not a breed of dog; it is a group of a certain type of dog. The origin of this breed doesn’t help their reputation. The APBT was bred specifically for the purpose of being the ultimate fighting dog. The breed needed to be quick, agile, strong, determined, aggressive, and able to withstand pain and have a lot of game (to never give up under any situations). What is not known about the APBT is that they were bred NOT to be aggressive toward people. That was one trait that was bred into them, non aggressive towards people. The breeders needed that trait because when breaking up dog fights they didn’t want to get bit. When one dog would bite the handler, one of two things would happen; either that dog would get put down or didn’t get bred again. This was done to keep the bloodline pure. Because...
