Alonzo presides over a broken home. He has a mistress, who lives with their illegitimate young son in a Los Angeles neighborhood which is conspicuously referred to as “the Jungle.” Conversely, Jake has a more traditional family; he is married and lives with his wife and their daughter. As the film progresses, Alonzo is seen to be an overly aggressive, subtly enraged and overconfident “dirty cop” who appears to believe that his criminal behavior will never be discovered.
