4.
Understand the way total quality management can significantly improve both quality and productivity.
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT
Flour, eggs, sugar, baking powder, chocolate, and shortening don’t create much excitement when they are in the kitchen cupboard. They create a lot more excitement when someone transforms them into a cake. Whether it’s a cake, a computer, or a legal docu- ment, operations and materials management processes create value in a household or a company.
A company’s operations require inputs such as raw materials or parts and the skilled people and equip- ment to transform them into useful products. After you read this chapter, you will understand why the management of a company’s supply chain and trans- formation processes determine how much value it can create for customers.

5.
Describe three materials management methods companies use to improve the flow of resources into and out of production and increase operations efficiency. Jones: Introduction To III. A

Sigma Alpha Epsilon

...Obviously the true gentleman likes to deal with people who are frank and honest. We strongly dislike deception. The gentleman who recognizes this never disguises his real motives when he deals with people, but speaks directly and honestly. He is cautious enough, however, to know that in speaking frankly he is required to be blunt. He is careful that his honesty and frankness do not injure the feelings of others. He follows the rule: be frank, but be discreetly. The gentleman not only speaks directly, but he speaks effectivtely. He tries to develop a pleasant quality of voice. He avoids profanity, and obscenity if only because among cultured people such gross misuse of language is inexcusable. One who speaks forcefully and effectively must also speak sincerely. He learns to dramatize words, to hold the attention of others by putting feeling into his speaking. He speaks forcefully and he speaks well. There is no substitute for sincerity in speech and action. You have met people who make a wonderful first impression, who have the surface quality of politeness, but who are in reality insincere and phony. They are good actors but they don't wear well. Thus the proof of sincerity lies in one's constant behavior. If you say what you mean, and mean what you say, you will be accounted by others as being sincere. The true gentleman conducts himself outside the chapter house as if the house has a target on their back. You want and need to represent your chapter in the best way possible...

Modern Cultural Artifact

...Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington D.C Donna M. Gerron American InterContinental University Abstract It was a very hard decision deciding on which artifact to write about. It was a choice between the King Center in Atlanta Georgia and the King Memorial in Washington. The King Center has a wealth of information about Dr. King and his fight for nonviolent solutions for African Americans to be considered equal among all men. This paper is about the newest addition to the King legacy, King Memorial Monument in Washington D.C. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington D.C For this week’s IP we were to write about a modern day cultural artifact that best represents the culture we live in today. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a brilliant man who stood up to fight for equality for African Americans in this country. Cultural Background Most people are already aware of who Dr. King was and what he stood for. His legacy will forever affect our society. Because without him we would not have an African American president, Blacks will probably still be treated as though they are second class citizens. Dr. King arranged marches, boycotts, and sit-ins. Even though he and his followers were often met with violence he continued to not lift a finger in anger towards anyone. Unfortunately some people still do think they was they did in the 60’s because they were taught that way of thinking by their parents or grandparents. Dr. King paved the way for Blacks...

Alpha and Beta

...Elijah Ongeri Matini BBM2735/14 BBM 413 Assignment a) Alpha A measure of performance on a risk-adjusted basis. Alpha takes the volatility (price risk) of a mutual fund and compares its risk-adjusted performance to a benchmark index. The excess return of the fund relative to the return of the benchmark index is a fund's alpha. Alpha is one of five technical risk ratios; A positive alpha of 1.0 means the fund has outperformed its benchmark index by 1%. Correspondingly, a similar negative alpha would indicate an underperformance of 1%. The Jensen index, or alpha, bears some relation to the capital asset pricing model, or CAPM. The CAPM equation is used to identify the required return of an investment; it is often used to evaluate realized performance for a diversified portfolio. Because it's assumed that the portfolio being evaluated is a diversified portfolio (meaning that the unsystematic risk has been eliminated), and because a diversified portfolio's main source of risk is market risk (or systematic risk), beta is an appropriate measure of that risk. Alpha is used to determine by how much the realized return of the portfolio varies from the required return, as determined by CAPM. The formula for alpha is expressed as follows: |α = Rp – [Rf + (Rm – Rf) β] | Where: Rp = Realized return of portfolio Rm = Market return Rf = risk-free rate The Jensen index measures risk premiums in terms of beta (β); therefore, it is...

Perry Partners CEO Richard Perry suggested that Europe is 2-3 years behind and will suffer in the short-term and believes Greece will stay in the Euro and is buying Greek bonds, but going short on Japanese bonds. CEO Jane Mendillo from the Harvard Management Company, which has 22% of its portfolio in Europe, believes that Harvard’s long-term vision is as an endowment fund. Mendillostressed that when investing in China due to the uncertainties it is always best to have a Chinese partner that understands the demographic changes and the local market since index investing in China is flawed.
