...ABSTRACT India with its growing economy is becoming one of the most attractive nations for investments at present. The country’s most significant industry is the retail industry (Jain et al, 2009). It is currently the 5th largest retail industry in the world and the industry contributes around 12% to the country’s Gross Domestic Product, it is also expected to grow at a very healthy rate and contribute around 22% by the end of 2011 (Srivastava, 2008). However the dominant sector in the retail industry is the unorganised sector, with the organised sector consisting of only 4% in the total industry. As India as a nation develops, there will be more foreign and domestic players looking to grab a share of the market. Along with domestic companies such as TATA, Future Group etc, Tesco of the UK and Wal-Mart from the USA have already set up plans to expand their business in the country, these are two of the heavy weights in the global retail industry. The organised sector in an effort to retain customers have introduced a variety of loyalty programmes and schemes, however due to the dominance of the unorganised sector in India the effectiveness and the consumer’s perception about such schemes have not been studied comprehensively. Therefore this dissertation aims to understand the consumer’s perception towards such loyalty schemes, how effective they are in building loyalty amongst the organization and the consumer, and to also understand the future and roles of the two retail sectors...

.... Organization Theory Challenges and Perspectives John McAuley, Joanne Duberley and Phil Johnson . This book is, to my knowledge, the most comprehensive and reliable guide to organisational theory currently available. What is needed is a text that will give a good idea of the breadth and complexity of this important subject, and this is precisely what McAuley, Duberley and Johnson have provided. They have done some sterling service in bringing together the very diverse strands of work that today qualify as constituting the subject of organisational theory. Whilst their writing is accessible and engaging, their approach is scholarly and serious. It is so easy for students (and indeed others who should know better) to trivialize this very problematic and challenging subject. This is not the case with the present book. This is a book that deserves to achieve a wide readership. Professor Stephen Ackroyd, Lancaster University, UK This new textbook usefully situates organization theory within the scholarly debates on modernism and postmodernism, and provides an advanced introduction to the heterogeneous study of organizations, including chapters on phenomenology, critical theory and psychoanalysis. Like all good textbooks, the book is accessible, well researched and readers are encouraged to view chapters as a starting point for getting to grips with the field of organization theory. Dr Martin Brigham, Lancaster University, UK McAuley et al. provide a highly readable account...

...burden which is against the basic principle of profit making for the business organizations. Business organizations have been considered as bodies that meet the demand of the consumers by supplying their goods and services, and have the responsibility for generating wealth and employment opportunities. (Mette Morsing & Carmen Thyssen, 2003) In recent times after the increase in concern about the ecological imbalances and the impact of business on the environment, this above view is however changing and more and more entities are taking corporate social responsibility activities and few of them are also able to align their business goals in order to generate profits. The modern business also debates over the business responsibility towards the Shareholder’s and owners versus Stakeholders (employees, consumers, suppliers and shareholders) in the present day scenario. After taking the consideration of responsibility towards stakeholders, businesses are coming closer to the society and are altering the function of business organizations taking into considerations the business’ wider role. The wider role define above is coming into many areas such as for the social order and environment, beyond financial performance, and alignment of business responsibility in a moral and socially accountable way. Corporate social responsibility is the term coined for the performance of business organizations in which they align their activities in such a way so as to achieve the shift from complete...

... 2014 Dissertation submitted to Anglia Ruskin University in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the Masters Programme Abstract The research issue is that multinational organisations in the petroleum industry such as Shell and British Petroleum are being pressurised by their stakeholders to take responsibility for their business activities. In view of stakeholder pressure, companies have developed and implemented CSR policies and practices. However, the effectiveness of these CSR policies and practices is questionable as the effects of companies activities have negatively impacted the lives of their stakeholders and continue to do so (Amao, 2013). There is extensive research being carried out on understanding the effectiveness of multinationals CSR practices as there exists a wide gap between what companies are saying and what they are actually doing. Practising CSR makes companies responsible for looking after the needs of their stakeholders, makes companies take steps to protect the environment, improve people's livelihoods, motivates employees and increases organisations' effectiveness and efficiency. Multinational state they are practising CSR. Yet their activities have caused much harm to stakeholders. Shell's activities in Nigeria have caused severe health risk to families’ drinking water containing high levels of carcinogens (BBC, 2011). This study is important as it is seeking to understand to the extent to which Shell's CSR practices...

...reason successful Social Networking Sites have become so valuable is due to the amount of people that are using it; and people are exactly what organisations are after. This report aims to find out whether Social Networking Sites have the same value in the context of recruitment. Academic literature extensively discusses online recruitment, however not much is said about recruitment on Social Networking Sites: ‘Sociocruitment’. Research revealed that professionals are quite optimistic about Sociocruitment. Although users of Social Networking Sites had a disperse opinion on organisations contacting them on these websites; not many were negative. The contemporary research furthermore harvested information from a range of sources to create understanding of key issues allowing readers to familiarise themselves with the concept.
