...MEMORY ACCURACY: THEORETICAL MODELS AND EXPERIMENTAL VALIDATION Human memory has been on many occasions compared to the operations of a computer on the basis of their multifunctional systems. Memory is critical and plays a central role in our everyday information processes. Several models of information processes have in-time being proposed. The Atkinson-Shiffrin model (1968) is the most popular is and widely used by many memory researchers. The model indicates the transfer of information from the environment into the sensory memory which is very brief that some information is forgotten before it reaches the second storage. Short-term memory is the second temporary store which is also fragile. The short-term memory is very similar to working memory responsible for higher cognitive functioning which is also temporary. Information is then finally encoded onto the long-term memory where it is assumed to be a permanent storage for longer periods. Baddeley (2000) proposed the episodic buffer as the new forth component of the working memory model. This model was initially proposed by Baddeley and Hitch (1974) with three components, the central executive assisted by the phonological loop and the visuo-sketchpad assumed to be temporary storage faculties. The episodic buffer is assumed to play a very central role of binding features into objects and it is assumed to be a temporary limited store which links all systems together for the purposes of multi-dimensional coding (Baddeley...

...sunflower utraceuticals n to Sunflower Nutraceuticals, Board of Directors from Teresita Alvarez, CEO re Working Capital Financing Options I wanted to update you on my efforts to secure an increased line of credit for working capital. Despite my repeated efforts and the calls that both of you have made to our bank’s senior officers, Miami Dade Merchant’s Bank (MDM) continues to be inflexible. It refuses to increase our $3.2 million line of credit and says that it will not change its mind. It is also proposing tighter covenants. I have highlighted for MDM our improved EBIT and free cash flow over the last eighteen months and our concomitant success in reducing the use of our line of credit by almost $500,000. MDM argues—perversely—that this shows we do not require additional funding, especially given our recent lack of revenue growth. I have pointed out its flawed, catch-22 logic. It claims that we don’t need additional working capital because we’re not growing, while I counter that we can’t grow without additional working capital. Quite frankly, I think MDM now regards us as an unattractive account and is trying to fire us as a customer. It appears that it is pruning its account base after being acquired by Imperial Bank. Although our long-time account executive, Chris Mitchell, swears otherwise, he has cautioned me that the bank is adopting a very tough line with small business accounts that breach covenants. For all of MDM’s rhetoric about supporting local...

Bays UCL Institute of Neurology and Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience Working memory declines with normal aging, but the nature of this impairment is debated. Studies based on detecting changes to arrays of visual objects have identified two possible components to age-related decline: a reduction in the number of items that can be stored, or a deficit in maintaining the associations (bindings) between individual object features. However, some investigations have reported intact binding with aging, and specific deficits arising only in Alzheimer’s disease. Here, using a recently developed continuous measure of recall fidelity, we tested the precision with which adults of different ages could reproduce from memory the orientation and color of a probed array item. The results reveal a further component of cognitive decline: an age-related decrease in the resolution with which visual information can be maintained in working memory. This increase in recall variability with age was strongest under conditions of greater memory load. Moreover, analysis of the distribution...
