Alzheimer disease is a type of dementia, which is a general term describing memory loss and other problems with thinking and behavior. its early stages, memory loss is mild, but with late-stage Alzheimer's, individuals lose the ability to carry on a conversation and respond to their environment.
It’s symptoms usually develop very slowly according to its stage until it starts interfering with daily life tasks.
Alzheimer's is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. Those with Alzheimer's live an average of eight years after their symptoms become noticeable to others, but survival can range from four to 20 years, depending on age and other health conditions.

Alzheimer disrupts the connection between these cells and the neurotransmitters within.
Significant loss of cholinergic neurons is not the only biological explanation for this devastating condition. Autopsies of those who have died from Alzheimer's reveal an abnormal presence of intracellular neurofibrillary tangles and extracellular beta amyloid patches, called neuritic plaques, in the cholinergic pathways of the brain.
It is thought that neurofibrillary tangles are the result of a mutated protein normally involved in the healthy functioning of microtubules.
In affected cells, these tangles interfere with axonal transport of enzymes, nutrients, and other materials essential to the cell. The exact role of neuritic plaques in the progression of Alzheimer's disease is, however, somewhat less clear. Excess concentrations of beta amyloid are associated with neuron death, yet the mechanism by which this occurs is still not …show more content…

Moderate Alzheimer's is typically the longest stage and can last for many years. As the disease progresses, the person with Alzheimer's will require a greater level of care.
You may notice the person with Alzheimer's confusing words, getting frustrated or angry, or acting in unexpected ways, such as refusing to bathe. Damage to nerve cells in the brain can make it difficult to express thoughts and perform routine tasks.
At this point, symptoms will be noticeable to others and may include:
• Forgetfulness of events or about one's own personal history
