...Amadeus Musi 1306 I believe the central conflict in Amadeus is...man versus self. The movie Amadeus begins with an elderly Antonio Salieri attempting to take his life. I believe Salieri came to this conclusion after he could no longer the shame of his role in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's death. Although some may easily assume the central conflict in the movie was man versus man, I would have to disagree because Mozart was never in competition with Salieri and considered Salieri to be a colleague and friend; even though Salieri was always competing with Mozart, it takes two to compete. Some may also assume the central conflict is man versus nature, God the creator, since Salieri questions God's actions. Salieri even prayed to God to make him a great composer, famous to the world and a miracle to occur that would allow him to pursue a career in music against his father's wishes. So when his father met an early demise Salieri thought it was a miracle! I believe the central conflict was man verse self, but it was hidden by his disgust for Mozart. Mozart was everything Salieri vowed to not become; a giggling dirty minded creature. Salieri was jealous of Mozart, which is the foundation of the conflict. It did not matter how famous or wealthy Salieri would become, he would never be as gifted or have the musical genius of Mozart. Even though Salieri was a fan of Mozart, his ego could not rationalize how genius Mozart truly was. Salieri made several references to the perfection...

...The storyline of Amadeus was plagued with elements of competition, pride, talent, entitlement and arbitrary beliefs which ultimately composed the core theme-Identity. Seen most exclusively between Herr Mozart and Salieri, clashing identities formed feuds, which resulted in tragedy- Salieri, a gifted musician in his own right, wants nothing more than to praise God to exalt him with his music. But instead God choses Mozart- An insulant impenitent child to be his musical regent on earth. Salieri feels he has no choice not to only turn his back on God, but to actually punish God by killing Mozart, an act accomplished by driving the drunkard to work himself to death.(Sholder, Adam) Salieri’s identity was consistent with the Holy Virtues,...

...Throughout the movie “Amadeus” Mozart continued to represent the ideas of the Enlightenment period. Mozart was able to create new music techniques that differed from the other styles of the period. For example, when Salieri(a typical musician of the time) wrote a march for when Mozart was coming to perform for the archbishop. Mozart adjusted Salieri’s music to make it more complex, differing from Salieri’s classic humdrum music. Exemplifying Mozart’s individuality when looking at music because his view was very different than anyone else's during that time. Mozart’s music was not just different from Salieri’s music, it was different to the ear of the people. When Mozart finished performing his opera The Abduction from the Seraglio people critiqued...

...Miloš Forman’s 1984 narrative film, Amadeus, is a fictional rendition illustrating one of several theories leading to the death of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1791. The film starts with an establishing shot showcasing a stationary horse-drawn carriage along a cobblestone road in snowy Vienna, accompanied by Mozart’s “Symphony No. 25 in G minor, K. 183.” Shortly thereafter, the camera cuts to an alley way and you hear the screaming of Antonio Salieri, who is consumed by guilt for the death of Mozart. Throughout the film, Salieri tells the tale of his growing rivalry with Mozart. During Salieri’s recital of events, the camera shows a drab environment, consumed by shadows and shades of brown. Yet, within flashbacks, the audience is submerged...

...Compare the treatment of the theme of passion in Peter Shaffer’s play ‘Amadeus’ (1979) and Jeanette Winterson’s novel ‘The Passion’ (1987) ‘This conflict of sobriety versus passion… lies at the core of Amadeus’ Heinz-Stroll Passion is a fundamental theme of both Amadeus and The Passion, although each text treats it differently. Amadeus explores Salieri’s passionate love of music, and his obsession with Mozart, whereas The Passion investigates not only individual love and passion, but also the passion of all of France for the charismatic Napoleon. Both texts, particularly Winterson’s novel The Passion, suggest the necessity of passion within humanity; it is something every one of us craves in some form, and Winterson even states that ‘man cannot exist without passion’. Henri falls in love too easily and Villanelle craves the danger of a risky passion: ‘Not much touches us, but still we long to be touched’ Any person with some knowledge of Jeanette Winterson’s personal life would expect the quite particular treatment of passion apparent within her novel - she is known to have said that ‘passion is a demon’, and her personal feelings toward love are thinly veiled by the story; it is actually inspired by her affair with Pat Kavanagh - in fact, many of her novels revolve around her own personal relationships. In the book, Jeanette Winterson explores the meaning of passion itself, granting it various intriguing definitions, and challenging our perception of it. Through her...

...Studies showed that a child will inherit his or her parents’ gene and it may be possible for a musically educated parent to pass on his or her musical gene to the child. One example is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). He was known as a child prodigy and started performing around major capitals of Europe as young as six years old. His father, Leopold Mozart, was a highly regarded violin teacher of that period and taught little Mozart how to compose and play keyboard at the tender age of four, which resulted in him having the ability to write big works and play many musical instruments proficiently by the age of twelve. He also had an exceptional hearing and memory that he notated almost an entire choral piece after hearing it once during his visit to Rome. He wrote many concertos (especially the piano concertos) and sonatas for his own virtuosic performance during the trip. Talent may helped in one’s musical journey but most importantly, it was Mozart’s passion in performing and music writing that won acclaim from the rich. Clara Wieck (1819-1896) is another example of a child prodigy born in a musically inclined family. Both parents played the piano and encouraged Clara to perform regularly at a very young age. She held concerts throughout Europe during her adolescence and was a very well-known piano virtuoso...

...John Blake Temple Music Appreciation Dr. Watts 2/25/2013 Amadeus Movie Essay Throughout the movie Amadeus, Mozart is an interesting and unique character. Mozart starts with such promise in his career; he has been making music since he was an infant and has been driven by his father to be great. He loves his music and believes in his own talent. He is so big-headed that he cannot stand that so many other people do not understand his work. The inner drive and self-destructive behavior are what make him a brilliant man, but also a weak man, his constant partying and drinking breaks him down. He has plenty of skill, but his personality is what hurts him. Mozart does not know how to succeed, like many brilliant people. He doesn’t know how to make it in the real world and that is what does him in. The story is told from the perspective of Antonio Salieri, another composer. The other music heard in the movie is his. Salieri, now in a mental hospital, talks with a priest and shares with him the story of his life. Salieri wants nothing more than making beautiful music for the world. To be “touched by God.” He has given to charities, and believes for a while, that his deal with God has been answered. Then he runs into Mozart. He hears this young man is the creator of very beautiful music. When Salieri looks at the original works Mozart has done, he is amazed. Salieri is then determined to bring Mozart down and find a way to make himself look as good. Salieri plots the...

...Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Symphony 40 in G minor KV 550 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQVsvDt-KPA This symphony is composed by the well known music composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1788. It is a classical and first movement (Molto allegro) symphony. In this symphony percussions, brass and keyboards are not used. Only strings and woodwind instruments are used to compose this symphony. This symphony is mainly dominated by String instruments. It is a tensed music. The arrangement of this symphony is slow tempo, fast tempo, slow tempo, fast tempo. Instruments Used In This Symphony 1. Violin 2. Oboe 3. Flute 4. Double Bass 5. Cello 6. Bassoon 7. Clarinet My Personal Opinion Regarding This Symphony I personally found this symphony to be relaxing and tensed at the same time as it follows both genres gradually. We can experience soft temp as well as in high tempo, which really catches the attention of the one who is listening to it. This symphony has the capability to change one’s mood. As it is very well composed and the way the musicians have synchronised the instrument sounds, it really makes a good composition, as a listener, I really got involved in the music as it relaxed me. But if I would have been tensed, it would have made me more tensed. I really like the way the Maestro/Conductor was making them play the symphony, as he knew what to do and how to make them follow the rhythm and tone. As the tone in this symphony was really important...
