Ambition

...Ambition It is not difficult to imagine a world short of ambition. It would probably be a kinder world: without demands, without abrasions, without disappointments. People would have time for reflection. Such work as they did would not be for themselves but for the collectivity. Competition would never enter in. conflict would be eliminated, tension become a thing of the past. The stress of creation would be at an end. Art would no longer be troubling, but purely celebratory in its functions. Longevity would be increased, for fewer people would die of heart attack or stroke caused by tumultuous endeavor. Anxiety would be extinct. Time would stretch on and on, with ambition long departed from the human heart. Ah, how unrelieved boring life would be! There is a strong view that holds that success is a myth, and ambition therefore a sham. Does this mean that success does not really exist? That achievement is at bottom empty? That the efforts of men and women are of no significance alongside the force of movements and events now not all success, obviously, is worth esteeming, nor all ambition worth cultivating. Which are and which are not is something one soon enough learns on one’s own. But even the most cynical secretly admit that success exists; that achievement counts for a great deal; and that the true myth is that the actions of men and women are useless. To believe otherwise is to take on a point of view that is likely to be deranging. It is, in its implications, to...

Ambition In Macbeth

...Most Ambition comes from a strong desire for something. Ambition can be done individually and collectively all in the hopes to satisfy everyone. Modern day ambition is collectively shown by groups such as Isis in a negative way with death in hopes to create fear of the group. In the Tragedy of Macbeth, ambition is shown Lady Macbeth as she encourages her husband Macbeth to kill Duncan and become king. Macbeth’s ambition to become king would have made him become king. However, it is important to note that his ambition to become king comes directly from the three witches. Macbeth’s ambition was amplified by Lady Macbeth as she strongly encouraged him. Lady Macbeth was written by Shakespeare with bad ambition. This becomes obvious as the book progressively goes on. Lady Macbeth ambition because so strong that she even unsexes herself “Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, and fill me from the crown to the toe top-full of direst cruelty.” (1.5.31-34). Ambition in Macbeth

...are still relevant today. Shakespeare Macbeth and Mark Brozel’s reworking strongly suggest that Shakespeare does write about these issues. Macbeth is a classic tragedy which is so versatile that it can be set in any context. Ambition is the most prominent theme in Macbeth. The audience sees ambition run riots in Macbeth and Lady Macbeth’s mind, who try so hard to fulfil their desires, no matter what the cost is. For example, Macbeth goes from a good, loyal and honest general to a murdering maniac. This is what ambition does to a human being. It brings out the darkest of demons in a human being. “For mine own good All causes shall give away. I am blood Stepp’d in so far that, I should wade no more, Returning were as tedious as go o’er”- Macbeth (Act 3, Scene 4) Shakespeare uses the technique of similes to compare Macbeth’s crimes as that of him walking through a bloody river. In this simile, Macbeth is comparing his heinous crime to wading through a bloody river. It is Macbeth’s thinking that once a man commits a murderous act for his personal gain, it is impossible to stop. Macbeth implies that turning back would be as tedious as committing the crime. In Mark Brozel’s 2005 adaptation of Macbeth, Macbeth-Shakespeare Retold, the theme of ambition is explored in a different context but with the same plot. Joe Macbeth (Macbeth) knows that he will always be over worked and under paid for his work and so does his wife Ella (Lady Macbeth). In order to eradicate this problem...

Ambition In Macbeth

...More often than not leaders have a stronger sense of what is happening than what is being shared. To be an authoritative leader is to know when to stop hearing out irrelevant opinions and thinking for yourself. Macbeth had the decency to include other in his wavering of decision making but was also willing to factor in his own benefit when needed. “Stars hide your fires; Let now light see my black and deep desires.” (1.4.50-51) This quote is speaking of Macbeth's recurring ambition for power. The “fire” being used to represent all of his hopes and dream of being king, after the push from Lady Macbeth the deed is done; Duncan is killed off, and Macbeth is left as king. Macbeth can be related to Niccolos Machiavellis’s The Prince, within this excerpt Machiavelli states “It is much safer to be feared than loved”, this is because when loved the leadership is confused with a friendship. To be loved does not necessarily mean respected, without respect all power would be even and a kingdom would be left in total anarchy. If Macbeth was loved by his riffraff he would have been unable to conquer and kill when it needed to be done. When a leader is viewed as a friend they lose all creditability of what power and control they...

The company was thrived rapidly under the operation of chairman and chief executive Daniel E. Gill until early 1990s. Specifically, in 1978, B&L’s revenues were just $442 million , but over a decade its sales reached $1.5 billion. However, in early 1990s, B&L’s growth started to slow in the U.S and Europe. B&L was surpassed by rival Johnson & Johnson. Also, to boost the sales, several managers tried to extend the longer credit terms which, in return, increased receivables by 25% in 1993 to hit $ 506 million. B&L’s shares which reached 58 in 1991 dropped to about 30 in 1994. However, the biggest problem came from B&L’s Asia-Pacific division in Hong Kong where Y.H. Chan was the president. He raised sales by selling sunglasses in gray markets where the price was 10% o 30% cheaper than prices in the U.S and Europe. When the receivables hit the roof, B&L auditors started to probe and they found out that a half-million sunglasses stored in a rented warehouse. Those glasses were returned by customers and also a result of fake sales. (2) Why did such things happen? My Ambition

...One should use their passions and skills to better the world. I firmly believe in this statement which is why I want to become an allied health professional. My passion for research, medicine and science and my desire to impact and improve public health are among the greatest motivators to become an allied health professional. Elementary school was very challenging for me. My mother was concerned with my introvert nature and slow academic development which inhibited my social interactions. Four years later, after being assessed by various medical professionals, I was diagnosed with Attention Deficiency Disorder. I became very curious and learned all that I could about ADD. Reading books on the disorder led me to learn about other learning disabilities and mental disorders. My curiosity expanded into a desire to know about all mental disorders, the brain, the human body and human behavior. Later in 2002, a close relative became afflicted with a seemingly onset of psychological disorders. A variety of psychologists, physicians, psychiatrists and other medical personnel were all involved in diagnosing and caring for her during her struggle. She suffered a lot during this time and often wanted to give up on life. Nevertheless, her medical team was continued to support and treat her so that she could recover. This experience fueled my desire to be part of a medical team. I look forward to working with doctors, nurses and other medical staff as an allied health professional to...

Career Ambition Paper

...As an explanatory variable for predicting human behaviors, career ambition has been widely studies in legislative studies (Black, 1972; Brace, 1984; Fowler & McClure, 1990; Hibbing, 1986; Lawless, 2012; Micozzi, 2014; Rohde, 1979; Schlesinger, 1966). Macbeth Blind Ambition

...Reading Shakespeare’s work makes one wonder, is this really what life is like? His writings show a common human experience and for this reason are considered timeless. In each of Shakespeare’s works the reader can relate it to their own life or to the society they live in. For example, The Tragedy of Macbeth relates to our current society, demonstrated by the theme of blind ambition. Macbeth’s desire to become king, and to remain king, became unhealthy. This can be shown in Act V Scene V when Macbeth admits that he feels numb and that nothing now can hurt him, not even the death of once beloved wife. Even before this, throughout the play we are shown how he strayed from his once noble nature and began to do anything in order to achieve his...
