The American flag has been a symbol of the nation’s strength and unity for over 200 years. The first American flag was sewed by Betty Ross in May of 1776 and congress adopted the stars and stripes on June 14, 1777. After the American flag became established, numerous amounts of people viewed the flag differently. Ordinarily, a patriotic citizen would view the American flag as a strong symbol of the country. A vain person will say it's no more than a piece of cloth on a stick. An undetermined citizen will straightforwardly say that the flag is very important but no more. But to me personally, the American flag has countless meanings. Therefore, the American flag is more than a piece of fabric. This flag symbolizes freedom, honor, and bravery. …show more content…
And red, white and blue represent more than just colors. These three colors stand for our powerful country, the United States of America. The flag symbolizes pride, the pride of our country after every event, ourselves and our pride for our flag of America. It also gives thousands of American citizens hope for ourselves, our family, our friends, and for our nation. Every time I see the American flag, I see our country’s soldiers and the risks they took for our freedom. The American flag has been through multiple battles and important events. When people see the American flag, they see the third oldest flag of the National Flags of the world. I see aged wisdom. The American flag was flown over from Fort Stanwix, on the site of the present city New York, on August 3, 1777. Others may see just some people flying a flag over, but I see bravery. It was under fire for three days later in the Battle of Oriskany on August 6, 1777. Some people plainly think of the Battle of Oriskany when looking at the American flag, but I see a violent hardship that led to great bravery. From World War I and World War II, to the Civil War, America has lost thousands of men determined to fight for America and its amazing flag. Consequently, this makes me very proud of our country and our fighters. The colors red, white and blue remind me of your freedoms. Red represents the strength and power of our country. White resembles the purity of our …show more content…

My cousin has taught me that great strength is hidden in our powerful flag, along with the strength of all the American people. The special strength is in the flag and for everyone. Those who have lost one while serving know the truth to the flag and nevertheless, stand tall before the flag. All that my cousin has taught me has continued to be a part of me. He is my role model and I admire him greatly. Furthermore, I would carefully listen to him passionately talk about the flag. He said that the flag should never be disrespected and has a high role in this country. The flag gives us our rights and gives us the potential to be who we want to be. It grants us safety and peace. Desecration of the American flag should be illegal because desecration of the American flag disrespects everything this country stands for. Confederate Flag Controversy Essay

...Confederate Flag has been the center of a major controversy that has spanned the entire United States. Many writers, when speaking on the subject of the Confederate Flag, now use words like “racism,” “controversy,” and “a symbol of hate.” Other writers, like John M. Coski, use words like “cultural property” and “a very practical banner.” The Confederate Flag that we know today was actually not the official flag of the Confederacy. Instead, the “Stars and Bars,” as it was nicknamed during the Civil War era, was actually the battle flag. The design was adopted by the Confederate Congress in March 1861 because of its resemblance to the American Flag. So how did this Civil War era banner spark so much controversy within the American...

Pro Confederate Flag Demby Analysis

...Demby effectively gets his opinion of being pro confederate flag by explaning why people still use degrading symbols from the past as “memories of family cookouts and first dates”. For example, Demby explains how someone could take wearing a Philly’s baseball cap as offensive to African Americans because of the history behind the team. He uses the word “stubborn” and states that “they were the last to integrate” to show that the team was being ridiculous and difficult when it came to integrating. He understands why someone would take offense to his hat, but says “it was a different time” and that history is “not really relevant to [his] hat”. He doesn’t wear the hat to show he support the actions that team took in the past, but he wears it to show “where [he’s] from” and its for [his] city”. His essay was effective in getting his...

...FraudAnalytic, Nonfinancial, and Red Flags | For Dr. Pacini ACG 6686: Accounting Fraud Examination Concepts -Spring 2013 – Mavis Curley Florida Atlantic University April 25, 2013 | I. INTRODUCTION The use of analytical procedures on financial data to asses risk and detect fraud is standard practice for auditors; however, using only financial data has been shown to be ineffective in uncovering many frauds. (3-Brazel) Auditors and forensic accountants find that when nonfinancial performance measures and financial data are compared inconsistencies can be exposed, and fraud risk revealed, that otherwise would have gone undetected. (3-Brazel) There are a number of nonfinancial performance measures which can raise questions about financial reporting and the corporations environment; although they are not directly related to the accounting of the business they function as possible indicators or symptoms of fraud; this can help detect wrong doing sooner than analytical procedures alone. This paper will describe common nonfinancial performance measures and through the use of a fictional corporation, show how nonfinancial performance measures and can expose fraud and fraud risk and discuss the use of red-flags and the future of nonfinancial measures in auditing, investing and investigations. II. NON FINANCIAL MEASURES AND CORPORATION X The American Association of Accountants (AAA) published a commentary paper on the NFM research done by Brazel et al, below is...

Texas V. Johnson: The American Flag

...United States Supreme Court Case Research Paper Texas v. Johnson The American flag. It’s arguably the most iconic American symbol. Even our national anthem includes the reference“whose broad stripes and bright stars”. In this song, lyricist Francis Scott Key isn't just mentioning how the flag looked at the time. He’s alluding to a deeper meaning. This flag is not only a symbol of a country, but of a brave and heroic people who defend their country’s citizens and freedoms. This illustrates the sacrality of the flag- it represents a lot more than miles of land. It represents thousands of lives lost for American citizens of all ages, colors and genders, and thousands of more lives that will be lost. The American flag is a venerated object, a national treasure- and it should be treated as such. However, Gregory Lee Johnson had a different opinion. Johnson’s unpatriotic actions in the state of Texas led to the infamous court case of Texas v. Johnson....

Coping Skills in Aa Urban Youth

Coping and Resiliency Skills in African American Urban Youths Introduction Growing up with a limited understanding of how to regulate emotions and cope in the face of ubiquitous urban blight, severe socio-economic hardship, and systemic racism is difficult for many urban youths. Resiliency is a term that is frequently associated with urban youths, especially if we consider the fact that according to the U.S. Census data in today’s America approximately one third of this population group lives in urban areas (Census, 2000). Given a steady increase in the numbers of low-income children living in urban areas, efforts to understand this particular phenomenon are critical. In this context, it is important not only to examine the negative (e.g.: drug abuse, violence, etc.) but also the positive self-regulatory skills (e.g.: athletics, education, creativity, dance, poetry, etc.), which urban youths employ as coping mechanisms. Another concomitant question that needs to be explored is how urban youth exercise positive self-regulatory skills under different circumstances and in specific contexts. This study specifically examined the phenomenon of coping and resiliency skills in African American urban youths growing up in the developmental contexts of various environmental stressors (e.g.: pollution, gang violence...
