...Olivia Granny Physics - 106 Earth Fieldtrip: National Museum of Natural History We are going to be exploring the Janet Hooker Hall of Geology, Gems, and Minerals. I decided to make the scavenger hunt fun and easy by starting off the first item in the beginning of the hall and in order all the way to the last item, which is located at the end of the hall. So as you walk you will find the items in order. As you enter the Janet Hooker Hall of Geology, Gems, and Minerals there will be an exhibit on space followed by an exhibit based on the earth and its plates. 1. What is a plate? Answer: The surface of the earth that made up of broken up pieces of the outermost layer. There are 7 major and 8 minor plates; these plates can be oceanic or continental. 2. What are the 3 types of plate boundaries? Answer: Divergent, convergent, and transform 3. What is a fault and how is it formed? Answer: A fault is a crack in the Earth’s crust. Faults are formed by the area between the Earth’s plates are being pushed together, pulled apart, or moving passed one another in opposite directions. 4. What is a craton? Answer: A craton is an old, thick, and stable part of the continental lithosphere. They are found in the inside of tectonic plates. 5.
