...Finance case study annuity etc.? i just started to learn finance. so, i need the model answer so that i can refer to it. here is the case Paul Murray* Paul Murray would soon graduate from business school with his MBA. He had accepted a fine job offer. Paul’s wife, Nancy, was an attorney with a local firm specializing in corporate law. Paul and Nancy were expecting their first child a few months after Paul’s graduation. With the experience of paying for their own graduate educations fresh in their minds, Paul and Nancy recognized that they would have to plan early to accumulate enough money to send their child through four years of college. Paul wanted to accumulate a fund equal to four times the first year’s tuition, room, and board by the time his child entered college. Paul and Nancy assumed that these fees might increase, perhaps annually, through the four years of college. However, if they invested the funds appropriately, the investments would yield enough to cover the increase in fees through the four years of college. Ideally, Paul and Nancy wanted their child to be able to choose among an array of public or private colleges with good academic reputations. A recent newspaper article had indicated that the average tuition, room, and board at private four-year institutions was about $15,000 per year. They felt that if their child were entering college this coming fall, $18,000 per year for tuition, room, and board would provide the range of choice they sought...

How To Write A Textual Analysis Of The Amit Peled Concert

...On January 12, 2016 I went to see the cellist, Amit Peled, play in the Brooks Center. Amit Peled played the cello while his partner Noreen Cassidy-Polera played the piano. The concert was made up of four main sets and then had three individual pieces at the end to close. The longest part of the show was “Suite No. 3 in C major for Cello Solo, BMV 109” by J.S. Bach. This was only Mr. Peled playing the cello. I found this very interesting as the music conveyed a lot of different emotions. After doing more research I discovered that the music followed a pattern of emotions that was outlined in the concert program. The piece started out with the Prelude which just set the stage for what would follow. The Prelude was followed by Allemande which was played at a fast tempo and was very upbeat. This represented a more joyful or happy emotion. Next was Courante. This was very fast paced was seemed to illicit an even happier emotion from the audience than before. The fourth part was called Sarabande. Before this Mr. Peled was building the audience up with happiness and with this part he portrayed a much sadder emotion. The piece at this point was very slow and had more deep...

Paper on the Waltz of Sociability

...in a Quebec High School Vered Amit – Talai indulges her readers with a commonly accepted phenomenon of Western civilization in which adolescents rarely transition into adulthood with their childhood friends through the experiences of a group of high school students in The Waltz of Sociability: Intimacy, Dislocation, and Friendship in a Quebec High School. It is assumed that peer relationships developed during adolescence are of considerable importance but only temporary. The social and cultural ramifications of this assumption are a recurring theme in this article. Amit-Talai takes a more personal approach towards investigating this assumption rather than the typical sociological and anthropological approach which view these temporary relationships merely “as an aspect of life cycle development” (Amit-Talai 233). Amit-Talai dismantles these ways of thinking by reevaluating four common features associated with high school students teetering upon the precipice of graduation and subsequent adulthood; “(1) that true friendships are private, free-floating relationships; (2) that adolescents have more time for developing such friendships and fewer competing commitments; (3) that friendship takes on a special intensity in adolescence; (4) that adolescent friendships are necessarily transient as a function of life cycle changes” (Amit-Talai 236). The development of friends during adolescence is crucial to one’s social status and general development. Amit-Talai shows that the time frame...

A Campus

...start-up that means “Business” KOZHIKODE: IIM-K graduate Amit Kourav wants to lead by example. When most of his classmates lapped up high paying jobs with MNCs and leading corporate, Amit decided to stay back on campus to prove a point in entrepreneurship. Originally from Madhya Pradesh, Amit, who passed out in March 2011, has been staying back at the student's hostel for the past one year to run High Octane, a boutique cafe-food court- bookshop combine, which has been a big hit with the students and faculty on the campus. Buoyed by the success of the plush outlet, Amit is currently in talks with banks and consultants to roll out a cafe chain on campuses and educational institutions in other parts of the country. Amit has also been advising many current students on starting new enterprises. "I was the coordinator of the entrepreneur cell on the campus in my final year and we used to hold regular events and talks for fostering entrepreneurship among students. I had always wanted to start something on my own ever since my college days. It was a private talk with a Harvard professor who visited the IIM-K campus for a guest lecture series which really stirred me to take the plunge," Amit said. Though he initially toyed with many project ideas, the cafe- bookshop-food court combination emerged as the most viable project as there was a huge demand for such a place on the campus. "Our idea was to create a place which the campus community could relate to and think of as their...

Motivation

...A CASE STUDY ON MOTIVATION Amit was a very brilliant student. He loved challenges and was always ready for new challenges. His lateral thinking skills were excellent and he hated to do things in the same manner every time and solve the problems by using traditional step-by-step logic. He completed his PGDM from a reputed institute. Amit joined XYZ project at ABC Ltd. Delhi in December after successfully completing his training at Bangalore. He was always appreciated for his “out of the box thinking” by his trainers. He always wanted to go back to Delhi, his hometown and live with his parents and when he got a transfer to Delhi he didn’t waste a single moment in saying yes to the new project and heading towards Delhi. Many of his friends were also moving out from Bangalore at the same time which only made his decision easier. He felt that the XYZ project offered better career prospects as it was a new project and he was offered to work on the current technologies that were in demand in the market. He was sure he would excel in his new position at ABC Ltd, just as he had done as a trainee. He joined as Assistant Systems Manager with a handsome pay hike for becoming a confirmed employee of the company. The company also had international operations and there was more than a slim chance that he would be sent to USA or UK on a project. Knowing that this would give him a lot of exposure, besides looking good on his resume, he was quite excited about the new job. I joined...

Social Roles and Identities Determine Intelligibility and Voice

...Social Roles and Identities Determine Intelligibility and Voice One can only wonder how many times a person is misinterpreted, misunderstood, and misrepresented during their lifetime. Usually this has to do with a lack in verbal communication. However, in this essay, we will see how social roles and identities determine the intelligibility and voice of a speaker and thus directly affect whether the intended message is received accurately or not. Drawing from several academic sources, we will see how it is possible and even a common occurrence to be misrepresented due to one’s social role or identity as it biases people about the content of one’s speaking even before the speaking has begun. Before we see how intelligibility and voice are affected by social roles and identities, it is important to define them. Intelligibility is defined as simply the ability to be understood, and voice is simply the perceived content of a message that a person is communicating. These two terms, are very much related and have a lot to do with how the message of what is being communicated is received. If a message is conveyed with a high level of intelligibility and an unbiased, clear voice, then the content is understood according to how the speaker intended it. This however is not often the case as social roles and identities often manipulate and alter the intelligibility and voice of a message. Social roles, i.e., the set of norms that people are expected to follow given their...
