Introduction of Myself

February 18, 2014 I am in my first semester here at Midlands Technical College. I am enrolled in Reading 100 with Charles Washington and English 100 with you. In this memo I am going to give you insight on my background, interests, achievements and goals.
•Background
I was born in Columbia, South Carolina in 1991. I have lived here all 23 years of my life. I currently live at home with both my parents. I have an older brother and a younger sister who also live at home. I attended public schools my entire life. At the age of 18 I dropped out of Spring Valley High School. I later enrolled myself in night classes to acquire my GED through W.R. Rogers Adult Education Center. I received my GED in November of 2012. At that point in my life I had no interest in furthering my education. I worked part time jobs here and there. I always thought of school as an option and never took it seriously. I was easily influenced by people who I called friends. I did my thing from the age of 18 till I was 21 years old. The biggest influence on my life throughout that time was my best friend Rebecca. We had some great times together and what she did, I did. I have always followed in her footsteps and never made a path of my own. We didn’t uplift each other in any aspect. So you could say we weren’t good for each other. In February of 2013 we ended our friendship for good. Although it was tough for me considering we had been friends for 12 years, it was the best thing for me. I gained a whole new set of friends. These friends motivated me to be a better person, to go after the things that I want in my life and to do things that were going to give me a better chance at becoming what I wanted to in life. This is why I am currently enrolled at Midlands Tech and why I am on the roll for your class. Without the motivation from these friends and the help of my family I would still be following the footsteps of the wrong type of people.
•Interest
I enjoy helping people to the best of my ability, making people happy and giving people advice to the best of my knowledge on the situation. Since I enjoy these things my major is Human Services. I have the desire to become a Social Worker. I plan on getting my Associates in Science here at Midlands Tech, then later transferring to a 4 year college to obtain a Masters in Social Work. There are many things you can do as a Social Worker. My desire is to work in the Child Welfare department. Child Welfare Social Workers provide services to children who are abused and neglected by their parents or to children from lower-income families who cannot afford to properly care for them. I have an interest in this as a career because I enjoy helping others. I also like children, but not enough to be a teacher so I put the two together and feel like this is a good field for me to go into where I can work with two things that I enjoy. •Achievements I have achieved many things in my life. Some achievements were bigger than others, but still give me satisfaction.

‒ I have gotten my driver’s license
‒ I got my first job my tenth grade year
‒ Passed my GED test after 5 tries
‒ Enrolled in college at the age of 22
•Goals
My goal for this semester is to not only do well in both of my courses. I want to be able to learn the information that I am taught. I want to be able to use what I learn in each class to help me in my future classes so that I can become a better student . In this class I would like to build my writing skills and become a stronger writer. I can’t wait to see what I learn from you during this 10 weeks course
