...Diet Analysis Essay - the Results from a 3 Day Study Nutrition has played a big part in my life even prior to taking Biology 101. To say the least I am fascinated by nutrition. I enjoy reading Men's Health magazine and watching television shows like The Doctor's and Doctor Oz because they are filled with nutrition tips, and scientific studies about fitness and health. I constantly follow the latest nutritional news because and I am a firm believer that your diet is the biggest component of your health and I wish to make most of my life. Biology 101 has been an extremely useful and knowledgeable course because I can personally relate to it and can apply much of the information learned to my own life. The Diet Analysis project was wonderful because it gave me a first hand look at my own diet habits. My actual intakes of the different food groups were somewhat near what the "My Pyramid" had recommended. I was within range for grains, fruits and milk. My consumption of meat & beans and discretionary calories were 181% and 150% of my recommendation respectively. Vegetables on the other hand were severely low at only 35% of my recommended goal. It was evident from this basic food guide pyramid that I was over consuming meats/beans and discretionary calories and was under consuming vegetables. I definitely need to adjust my diet so that I will consume more vegetables and a slight increase in fruits. All together I need to consume an extra 2.5 cups of vegetables daily which I will...

...Theory Analysis In watching the movies One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest one could see Foucault’s theories in action. The movie takes place in an mental hospital with the main character being McMurphy he was never declared mental patent. McMurphy was just under review witch he thought would only take 60 days, but once he found out that the hospital could keep him as long as they would like he tried to escape. Another main character was the head nurse Mildred Ratched she was very strict and by the book. When they brought McMurphy into nurse Ratched institution it lead to the implantation of Foucault’s mechanisms of control. One aspect of Foucault’s theory one can be seen from the begging is observational hierarchies. The inmates are constantly under supervision, by having complete supervision the inmates are less likely to act out or does something they are not suppose to do. When McMurphy walked in the institute he was escorted by two men in white outfits. The inmates where supervised even while taking a shower or sleeping. They were allowed to play cards or watch television but the nurses were still able to see all the inmates at all times. With the constant supervision the nurse and doctors were able to assess the inmate’s behavior; this is where Foucault’s theory of examinations can be seen. When McMurphy took to other inmates for a joy ride on a boat the doctor’s and the head nurse came together for a meeting to reassess McMurphy. They were assessing weather or not McMurphy...

...The New York Times Paywall Every newspaper in the country is paying close, close attention [to the Times paywall], wondering if they can get readers of online news to pay. Is that the future, or a desperate attempt to recreate the past?. . . Will paywalls work for newspapers? — Tom Ashbrook, host of On Point, National Public Radio1 On March 28, 2011, The New York Times (The Times) website became a restricted site. The home page and section front pages were unrestricted, but users who exceeded the allotted “free quota” of 20 articles for a month were directed to a web page where they could purchase a digital subscription. The paywall was launched earlier on March 17, 2011, in Canada, which served as the testing ground to detect and resolve possible problems before the global launch. The Times website had been mostly free for its entire existence, except for a few months in 2006–2007 when TimesSelect was launched. Traditional newspapers had been struggling to maintain profitability in the online medium, and they were eager to see how the public would react to the creation of a paywall at the most popular news website in the U.S. Martin Nisenholtz, the senior vice president of Digital Operations at The Times, was optimistic about the willingness of users to pay: I think the majority of people are honest and care about great journalism and The New York Times. When you look at the research that we’ve done, tons of people actually say, “Jeez, we’ve felt sort of guilty...

...Analys av modeföretaget Cubus AB En uppsats som en del i kursen ”Strategisk Marknadsföring” Handledare: Ulf Sternhufvud Textilhögskolan Borås 2013-03-18 Butikschefsprogrammet Julia Andersson, Sara Gulliksson, Sofia Holm, Ludvig Johansson, Sofia Lahdou, Angelica Olsson. Sammanfattning: I denna uppsats granskas företaget Cubus gällande ifrågasatt marknadsföring.

...This paper will talk about the product that I think could be advertised effectively. The product, which I choose to talk about, is a portable heater. I feel that this is product, which has potential to increase sells if this product had the right advertisement. There are many types of media communication that are used every day for advertisement. The main media communications that are used are television, radio, Internet, and magazines. The product that I chose as not marketed effectively is the portable heater. However with my product all four of the media communications are not being utilized. At the present time print media is the only way that consumers are viewing any type of advertisement for my product. I think the companies of portable heaters does not think that it is necessary for television, internet or radio advertisement because this product only really does well during the fall and winter seasons in the year. In today’s economy we as consumers have to buy thing at the right time in order to save money. With these communications the organization can get the product advertisement across by not limiting their sources to just one part of mass media. Often what many companies do is they only stick to one type of mass communication. My recommendations of these companies are to make the television, Internet, and radio ads. Right now companies are only advertising in the weekly and monthly ads in such stores as Target, BJ’s, and Wal-Mart. Often this will be the only...

...The current issue and full text archive of this journal is available at www.emeraldinsight.com/1356-3289.htm CCIJ 13,4 When an icon stumbles: the Ribena issue mismanaged Tony Jaques RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia Abstract Purpose – When two 14-year-old New Zealand schoolgirls challenged the advertising claims of Ribena blackcurrant drink – owned by global giant GlaxoSmithKline – they triggered a sequence of events which led to prosecution, public opprobrium and international damage to an iconic brand. The purpose of this paper is to explore the case and identify lessons for future management practice. Design/methodology/approach – Some of the fundamental principles of issue management, post-crisis discourse and corporate apologia are to recognize the problem early, to promptly institute a strategic response plan and corrective action and, if necessary, to apologise genuinely and without delay. The paper assesses the case against the theoretical basis of each of these principles and comparable cases. A senior executive of the company concerned was interviewed about some management aspects. Findings – Despite early indications of a problem which had potential impact around the world, a major global corporation responded inadequately to a local situation and, as a result, suffered prolonged embarrassment at the hands of two teenagers and unnecessarily severe damage to its brand and international reputation. Originality/value – By in-depth analysis of a recent case...

...Pinto Case Study Ford Motor Company launched the Pinto in August of 1970. This car was intended to compete with Volkswagen in the small car market. A tragic accident happen on August 10, 1978 in which three girls were killed. Two of the girls were sisters and the third was their cousin. The 1973 Ford Pinto was traveling on a highway when their car was struck from behind. The car burst into flames and all three teenagers were burned to death. Elkhart County prosecutor, Michael A. Cosentino took his case to the Elkhart County grand jury charging criminal homicide charges against Ford Motor Company. The trial was the first of its kind. The question was “Did Ford knowingly and recklessly choose to profit over safety in the design and placement of the Pinto’s gas tank?” (1) Cosentino was a part-time prosecutor with a $20,000 budget, some consultants working gratis and a task force of fired-up law school volunteers. (2) Ford had a former Watergate prosecutor with a million dollars to spend and legal team of 80 and all Ford’s resources at their disposal. Prosecutor Cosentino was driven by the fact that big companies are rarely phased by paying damage rewards and at that point criminal law should step in. Cosentino has to prove that Ford intentionally put a design out that was very dangerous. That Ford had the knowledge of the faulty design and recklessly chose profit over safety. Ford maintained that the Ford Pinto met the current safety standards for rear end crashes. Many...

...M1 Businesses are able to use different ways off communicational skills to illustrate information throughout their business. I am going to be interpreting and analysing the different methods of communication used throughout South Cheshire College, being a member of this college I have first-hand experience with the types of communication they use. Firstly I will analyse the verbal methods of communication, there is many different types of verbal methods including phone calls, face-to-face, business meetings and much more. However the most commonly used verbal method for the college is Face-to-face. During our induction day at the college face to face communication was used whilst our first meeting with our personal tutor. Information like this originated from administration as they have managed to provide our tutor with the necessary information needed to tell us during the original meeting, insuring we have all the correct knowledge needed to complete the course. The purpose of this type of communication in this instance was to ‘update knowledge’ for example our personal tutor ran through what our timetable was going to be like during our first year at college as we were unsure of what our lesson times were going to be like. Also taking us through the rules of the college and making sure we understood what was expected of us as students, and basic rules around the college, for example where the smoking areas are outside of the college, then she went through the consequences...
