TVP Multi Camera/Single Camera Reflective Analysis

Production Process | What you have learned | How this is reflected in literature | How you could have improved on what you did. | What you will do in the future to consolidate your learning. | Interview Skills | Here I learnt how to persuade a difficult interviewee into continuing with the interview by putting them at ease and assuring them.Watching the presenters interviewing our performer I felt there were a few pregnant pauses but nothing that was majorly noticeable I have learnt this could be more scripted and practiced between the presenters and interviewee so there is more of a comfortable atmosphere and chemistry is evident, otherwise it is seen as awkward on screen. For our final production our 5min drama there really wasn’t much interviewing but we did have to build a rapport with the actors so it was a smoother working environment. This I did with ease. | M. Rabiger, Chapter 30Shows to me how to pacify and work well with people Sally Adams, Wynford Hicks – 2009, Interviewing for Journalists “The successful interview comes from a professional approach”Developing Drama Skills 11-14 By Joss BennathanThis was more about the process of the development of this idea and how we turn the idea into film. | We could have possibly got the interviewee’s to sign a waiver beforehand so there are no problems once we get there to start. The only major improvement in the children’s show would have been better scripted, practice runs, and more meetings involving all crew members.Time would have been a factor and making sure our locations were al secured before we went ahead with the planning. | From here on in I can watch documentaries with s critical eye and assess how questions are asked and how interviewees are spoken to and treatedI have decided to go and do all tutorials in my spare time so I am able to understand all roles in the gallery. In future I will use places accessible to me and not rely on other people in the group, make sure I personally speak to the actors initially and I take a more forward role in the production. | Research | Our research was based on people who had previously had tattoos. We looked into how they felt why they did this and then looked at it from the tattooist point of view, discovering how they felt to be trusted with this huge responsibility. My research for the children’s show was more based around my role, I didn’t really look into children’s television programmes, I simply watched vision mixing tutorials and educational videos helping myself get a better understanding of what was expected. Our drama had me looking into things I would never have looked at before I started to analyse my favourite soaps and look at what made me like them, what the element of surprise and suspense was, how to grip the audience and pen ultimately how to keep them once you’ve engaged them. Prisoners Wives BBC iplayer, Eastenders, Coronation street as well as online videos all a part of my research into the best dramatic scene. | SAGE‬, 5 May 1998‬ - Social Science‬ Media Research Techniques, this literature explains that its best to keep a research log so you are aware of what’s been looked at and what is still on the agenda.BBC iplayer www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/tv1channel - http://www.1channel.chHow TV Drama Series Are Made http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xg63aq_how-tv-drama-series-are-made-what-is-a-freelance | I could have gone into a few more tattoo parlours to get more of a feel for how the business runs.My research was fine, but maybe I could have taken another tutorial making 100% sure I was able to undertake the pressure that comes with that position although I feel I did quite well. | In the future I will make sure I am fully aware of every aspect of how things work.Probably book in advance more than two tutorials back to back and then one just before the production so everything is fresh in my head. | Script writing | We never had a script as such for our documentary, but we did try to make sure things ran a chronological order Here I feel we could have one a lot better as a group. The script was very weak and the way it was delivered left a little to be desired. The script for our drama was constructed collectively although two people in our group concentrated there attention to it solely making the deliverance from the actors a lot smother I think. | Script Writing for the ScreenBy Charlie Moritz, 2001 this book explains that writing has to be a solitary and dedicated activity, so there is no such thing as a perfect script, perseverance is always the key to perfection. I also became addicted to http://www.bbc.co.uk/writersroom/scripts/prisoners-wives-s2-ep1 Writers Room BBC Website, this site let me read scripts from my favorite dramas so I could get a real feel for how drama scripts are set up. | We could have prepared some sort of script for the interviewees maybe steering them in the way we wasn’t to go instead of just leaving it to them to decide. The script wasn’t written very well so maybe in the future we can write it and make sure everyone in the group gets a copy making the relevant changes and bringing them to the next meeting so we can collide ideas this should make for a better more believable script.I feel we did fine with this script maybe in some parts there could have been a bit more content and in some a little less, but generally I feel our dialect went well with the theme. | Preparing scripts and getting things signed and agreed fully beforehand.Proof read everything.Proof read before w film double checking everything. | Editing | Material was organised via our paper edit. We all watched the rough cut and decided what exactly to use and what to cut out. Better skills with FCP/Avid. This was a live show so the vision mix was in a way a live edit. Our editing was done by Dion and I think he did a very good job, because our film was in fact 20min long so cutting it down to that was really very hard for him. | Editing Made Easy By Bruce Kaplan 1999, shows the basics of digital editing so it was easier for me to understand what Dion was doing. | I think instead of editing being left to one person we should all take turns in doing a bit.Spread the editing responsibility. | Colliding more as a group and working out clear plans of action.Working closer with the edit process. | Technical Skills in camerawork | Picked up a lot of different techniques and learned about close up shots Camera work for the children’s show was quite good a lot better than some I saw, our groups cameramen were confident about what they were doing they just needed that guidance from the gallery to keep there cameras in focus and ready to take the perfect shot. For this drama I used the camera and directed so it was a good experience for me to see what my shots looked like first hand. This was very interesting and definitely something I will do again. With much support from my peers I a happy I got the opportunity to do this. | Multiskilling for television production‬, Focal Press‬, 2000 - Performing Arts this book gave me a comprehensive introduction to the broad range of skills and technical knowledge required in this industry | Got more involved in the working and using of the camera. Maybe learned more in depth about the different shot styles. I could have possibly taken a camera tutorial so I understand the full working f the camera and the cameraman job strains. All our work was allocated, but I feel I could have helped Dion out a lot more, because he seemed to be doing a lot of the work by himself, I regularly contacted him and sent him what he asked or, but it still doesn’t erase the feelings, he is fine and I have made sure I did above and beyond what was asked of me although the same cannot be id for everyone in the group some people feel its better to just bark orders than get there hands dirty. | Be more proactive in my approach to learning the technical things. Make sure I am aware of what the job entails from every positions aspect.Make sure everyone in the group pulls their weight and not just gives orders. |

Below the grid you must write up your learning experiences so far with the following headings :
You must write 500 words minimum here excluding the bibliography.

Outline the production process
The production process was rigorous and put together by us all. We worked out the theme and then set to work on the subjects. Interviewing would have been a lot easier, but the owner of the shop made Kizzy and I feel uneasy with his behaviour so Luke had to ask questions and hold the sound boom, which meant we were not able to have full input into the direction of the interview. We researched as much as we could in the time we had allocated leading us to the shop we used Southgate Ink. We looked a lot at images and people in the media concentrating on the kind of tattoos they go for and the reasoning behind why they get them. As a group we decided on no script, because we wanted the documentary to be more edgy and unstructured, showing hopefully the reality and spontaneity of the business. We felt that this way was the best way to go for the type of people we were dealing with. Editing was mostly done by Luke although I did the paper edit and sat with him to choose the clips, he then sent a rough cut to everyone in the group so we could all decide as a group what should stay and what should go. Daniel did all our filming as he was the only one at that point that had done the tutorial but we all had a hand in what he was doing and what he needed so playing supportive roles to him at all times.
Looking at the children’s show we did recently our theme was mothers day, so we collectively decided on a blue peter style show where viewers were taught to make a valentines board from scratch used to store cads, pictures, or things to remember. We then had a young performer who spoke to the presenters about mothers day and then performed a song written and produced by herself, the song to me was the highlight of the show, because it had a very catchy hook and the guitar acoustics worked very well with her voice, a definite hit in my book made the show end on a really good note. my role in this production was vision mixer so I was not directly involved in the full production process, although I did attend group meetings and made sure Raimmy didn’t need any help with things. They all seemed to be organised and I made sure I went to my tutorials making sure I stayed on top of my position not wanting to let any one down. Because it was a big show it took a lot of communication to make sure things ran smoothly, but with the help of the brilliant gallery staff and the talk back system we were able to work together and make magic.
The production process for our drama was rigorous and meticulous, we were very organised had met with actors and seen locations all in the first week, then as things do it all went wrong we could no longer use the location and the actors had cried off, we then had to meet reassess and look at another plan of action. This plan came in the form of Dion’s friend after he agreed to act at the last minute; he was so professional and would work with him any day. We eventually managed to get the first part filmed and our main actor got the flu so we had to work around him hoping he would be better in time for us to finish. We had a very hard slog, but we got there in the end and I am very proud of what we eventually produced.
Describe the development of your idea
Meeting as a group it didn’t take us long to come up with the idea of following a tattooist, Luke told us he had a brother in law that did this as a living and that he would be happy for us to come and document what he does so we all felt collectively that it would be a good way to go for the first assignment simply, because he knows them and that should mean they are more accommodating to us.
The idea of making a mothers day show was originated in our first group meeting after much discussion and brainstorming. I developed my skills postproduction by attending two tutorials with the gallery staff. These were laborious tutorials explaining all the relevant buttons in the gallery and giving me a what they do, also showing us the adverse affect pressing the wrong button can cause when filming a live stream, so the pressure was even higher knowing we would only have one practice run. Learning to vision mix wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be its more a case of repetition and having the confidence and listening ability to get the job done. Having the ability to change the shots and keep the show running single headedly is a very good feeling made me feel like I was a real team player and gave me a warm sense of achievement.
Originally we were looking at a teacher people relationship, but ad I said the actors fell through so we adapted the new story to fit the actors we had basing it on what they had previously done hoping this way it could run a lot smoother. Brainstorming and good group communication helped us come p with our idea.
Make reference to the texts (programmes) you have watched as well as literature and other documents and how you have reflected these texts in your own work.
Previously I have watched many different reality documentaries, the main one we focused on was LA ink, but we steered away from there generalisation and instead of focusing on the clients we also focused on the tattooist and how they feel emotionally to mentally getting into the mind of a tattoo artist. Watching videos from the World famous Tattoo Artist Johnny Jackson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-uvnraTXbw this video gave me an insight into what was in store. Being a person that has no tattoos I was unaware how much work and effort goes into one tattoo. LA Ink http://www.tv.com/shows/la-ink/ is also a programme that captivated my interest whilst researching this subject, this in fact gave us the idea to look at the tattooist instead of focusing on the clients, which is something this particular genre of shows shows predominantly do
Before entering my tutorial I watched numerous short films on youtube on vision mixing so was able to grasp the overall element of what was expected. The first video I watched was by Naomi Neufeld demonstrating the art of mixing live TV studio camera shots. A BBC College of Production video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hdlBBV4iII this video showed me above all the intensity of the gallery and the responsibility given to the vision mixer, after watching this I fully understood what was expected and I was more than ready to take on the challenge.
To get idea I based my thought pattern on shows like Prisoners Wives, Bad Girls, The Krays, Goodfellas, these are the kind of shows that interest me so I will always base my drama situations on something like this. I also looked at writers room a website set up from you to read scripts from major drama series.
Outline how you could improve on teamwork in your next production.
Teamwork was really hard work, because not everyone wanted to pull their weight. I feel in the next production I will enforce a clear plan about what is expected from each member and set realistic goals and time to make sure everyone is a team player before we get to the end of the production and have to rush around covering work that hasn’t been done. I am very eager to make sure m next group are all on the same page and if someone is lacking behind we meet and talk about the problem gaining a clear understanding of each other and where we all stand. Obviously I can’t always predict how others are going to react, but I am willing to set a goal and stick to it.
For the chat show production I was assigned the lighting assistant position, but a death in the family prevented me from making the tutorials and many of the group meetings, but Judith Darko was my lighting partner and she was very helpful once I came and met with her,. The guys in the gallery were very helpful also they guided me in the right direction and made it a lot easier to fall straight into the position and get on with the job expected of me. I found I enjoyed the high pressure situation and thrived on the demand for perfection.
The teamwork element was a little hard, because everyone was so all over the place, we met on three occasions that I attended and I made sure I was available to help at any time. My role made it harder for me to be majorly involved in the production but as I worked closely with the director I was able to keep up to date with what was going on within the production. Our communication chain could have possibly been better, because not all information was passed on in time and emails were not always sent in time for things to be done, but we are all on a learning curb so these problems will be addressed a lot earlier next time, because I will recognise the signs and be able to make relevant changes. Because I am a perfectionist by nature I feel my vision mixing could have been a little better and maybe I could have had a better knowledge of the gallery and become more familiar with the set up learning what does what and why. I have decided I will go and do all tutorials again from scratch just so I have the knowledge and I am able to grasp the pressure of each different role, possibly making me more considerate when I am producing my shows in the second year. Working as a team in the gallery good communication is a must so I feel that went relatively well we managed to communicate well between ourselves and their were no hierarchy problems which I had seen in previous productions.
Team work is always difficult when you have so many people al, with different lives and agendas, but I think from the start ours could have been a lot stronger and united, but I also feel we could have benefitted from some extra team members there was in fact only 4 of us and other groups had as many as 6, so we were always at a disadvantage, communication is always key in these situations, and although we had a very good communication set up it always gets spoilt by one person feeling they are the boss and trying to take over which is something I do not work well with.

LInux and the CLI

...discussed as factors in your decision. Formatting using the CLI, while works fine for simple forms, is too limiting for complex documents. We have not gotten far enough to input things like pictures/graphs/diagrams ect, but when using a GUI I know from personal use that it is relatively simple. I will say, however, that when dealing with formatting from version to version of a program (lets say from a .doc to a .docx) can be frustrating. I have had times that there was no way that the file could be fixed, and that I had to make a whole new document, because the newer program would just not accept the old file in its original format. This is an advantage when using the CLI. .txt is .txt no mater what program it was created on, or platform that you were using. This is a HUGE advantage that using the CLI has over the GUI. If I am using Open Office on a Linux system to create a document, and then you want to open that same document using Microsoft Word on a Windows system there are huge problems in the “conversion” process. Even if you save said file using Open Office as a .doc file, when opening with Word, Its just not right. I think we have all ran into this issue, and it can be vexing. So I think that using the CLI to create and manipulate files is, overall, more efficient; we will always be visual beings and want to have our pretty buttons to...

Chapter 9 Law Paper

...Facts: Oklahoma State University provided Professor Eric Angevine with a computer linked to the university network, and through it to the Internet. Angevine used this computer to download over 3,000 pornographic images of young boys. After viewing the images and printing some of them, he deleted the files. Tipped off by Professor Angevine’s wife, police officers seized the computer and turned it over to a police computer expert who retrieved the pornographic files that the professor had deleted. The Oklahoma State University computer policy states that: The contents of all storage media owned or stored on University computing facilities are the property of the University. Employees cannot use University computers to access obscene material. The University reserves the right to view or scan any file or software stored on a computer or passing through the network, and will do so periodically to audit the use of University resources. The University cannot guarantee confidentiality of stored data. System administrators keep logs of file names, which may indicate why a particular data file is being erased, when it was erased, and what user identification has erased it. The trial court held that federal agents did not need a warrant to search Professor Angevine’s office computer because he had no expectation of privacy. The judge sentenced him to fifty-one months in prison for “knowing possession of child pornography.” The professor appealed. Issue: Did Professor...
