In "Among the Sierra Nevada Mountains" by Albert Bierstadt, oil is used on canvas to create a beautiful landscape. The landscape feels huge in its looks, warmth in its light and life in its picture. All elements of art come together in harmony in one painting. It is, however, difficult to determine one element that stands out on its own.

In this piece there is a great use of color, combined with value, to create sunlight peaking down from the clouds lighting up the otherwise dark cloud covered skies. He also uses implied space to show the broad landscape and, alongside with value and color, brings attention to the middle of the painting where a waterfall falls into the lake, highlighted with the suns beaming rays.
