...“Just Walk on By: Black Men and Public Space” by Brent Staples, “Serving in America” by Barbara Ehrenreich, and “Mother Tongue” by Amy Tan all tackle the issue of one being thought of as something they are not, as a result of his or her unchangeable characteristics. Staples is an African-American man and is often mistaken as a criminal because of his race. When working as a journalist, Staples was running late and “was mistaken for a burglar. The office manager called security and, with an ad hoc posse, pursued [him] through the labyrinthine halls, nearly to [his] editor’s office” (Staples 385). This anecdote highlights the negative thoughts that people have when seeing African American men, like Staples. The office manager assumed that Staples...

...She Walks In Beauty By: Lord Byron (George Gordon) She walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies; And all that’s best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes; Thus mellowed to that tender light Which heaven to gaudy day denies. One shade the more, one ray the less, Had half impaired the nameless grace Which waves in every raven tress, Or softly lightens o’er her face; Where thoughts serenely sweet express, How pure, how dear their dwelling-place. And on that cheek, and o’er that brow, So soft, so calm, yet eloquent, The smiles that win, the tints that glow, But tell of days in goodness spent, A mind at peace with all below, A heart whose love is innocent! "She Walks in Beauty" is a poem written in 1814 by Lord Byron. One of Lord Byron’s most famous, it is a lyric poem that describes a woman of much beauty and elegance. TITLE: What’s Up With the Title? We usually refer to this poem simply by its first line, "She Walks in Beauty." But the first line does more than introduce the subject of the poem – a beautiful woman. The first line of the poem (and therefore the title) is an apparently conscious echo of the famous sonnet by William Shakespeare, "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day" (Sonnet 18). Except, of course, instead of comparing the beautiful woman to a "summer's day," Byron compares her to "night." So he's not just setting up a contrast between night and day, he's also setting up a contrast between himself...

...nervous system, immune system, and it helps reduce the risk of heart disease and other non-infectious diseases. With a proper diet, a person must also exercise. Exercise is just as important as maintaining a proper diet. Regular exercise improves the quality of life. It can reduce stress; helps a person sleep better, and can help make you feel and look younger. The most important thing that exercise does is, it can reduce the risk of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and even some cancers. During my first week of my nutrition class, the instructor asked me to participate in a three-day diet analysis. I was to keep track of all of the foods that I had consumed in those three days. At the end of the three days, I had realized that I was nowhere near of having a proper diet. I was eating food that was high in sodium and low in dairy, fruit, vegetables, and grain. I also noticed that I was eating a lot empty calories. I just recently took another three-day analysis and the only difference that I noticed was that my calorie intake was much lower than the previous analysis and I am eating less during each meal. I am still nowhere near consuming the proper amount of each of the food groups. Not eating enough of the nutrients from the major food groups is just as bad as eating too much. After taking the analysis, both times I know I need to focus on eating regularly and incorporating all of the food groups within each meal. I also kept track of my physical activity for a three-day...

...Introduction Columbia Memorial Hospital is an acute care hospital with 300 beds and 160 staff physicians, and is one of 75 hospitals owned and operated by Health Services of America, a for profit, publicly owned company. In addition, Columbia Memorial operates an emergency room and stand-alone walk-in clinics. Currently, 8,000 of these walk-in clinics exist around the country. Because of Columbia’s profitability, the other three hospitals in the area opened walk-in clinics as well, thereby increasing Columbia Memorial’s competition. Due to the increased competition, there are only three clinics left in the city, down from the original five. The profitability of Columbia Memorial’s walk-in clinic is also in question as it is operating at only half of its capacity. In order to help the clinic become profitable once again, the marketing director, Rose Daniels, has presented a plan to implement a new campaign to the public to encourage use of the walk-in clinic. This proposed marketing plan would focus on occupational health services (OHS). “OHS would provide care to local businesses including physical examinations for managers and employees; treatment of illnesses that occur during working hours; and treatment of work-related injuries” (Gapenski, 51). Not only will the plan raise capacity in the clinic, but it will also lead to better overall health outcomes and prevent possible closure of the clinic threatened by the lack of profit generation. Columbia Memorial Hospital’s...

...3/26/09 Case 4 Better Care Clinic (Breakeven Analysis) Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, an acute care hospital with 300 beds and 160 staff physicians, is one of 75 hospitals owned and operated by Health Services of America, a for-profit, publicly owned company. Although there are two other acute care hospitals serving the same general population, Fairbanks historically has been highly profitable because of its well-appointed facilities, fine medical staff, and reputation for quality care. In addition to inpatient services, Fairbanks operates an emergency room within the hospital complex and a stand-alone walk-in clinic, the Better Care Clinic, located about two miles from the hospital. Todd Greene, Fairbanks’s chief executive officer (CEO), is concerned about Better Care Clinic’s financial performance. About ten years ago, all three area hospitals jumped onto the walk-in-clinic bandwagon, and within a short time, there were five such clinics scattered around the city. Now, only three are left, and none of them appears to be a big money maker. Todd wonders whether Fairbanks should continue to operate its clinic or close it down. The clinic is currently handling a patient load of 45 visits per day, but it has the physical capacity to handle more visits—up to 60 per day. Todd has asked Jane Adams, Fairbanks’s chief financial officer, to look into the whole matter of the walk-in clinic. In their meeting, Todd stated that he visualizes two potential outcomes...

In the end of the story, when the mother and Stan is driving towards their work, sits Clara at the table, where she begins to cry. I would like to take a look at atmosphere in this specific family. Clara's parents are divorced and she lives with her mother and this Stan. You could use many different words for the atmosphere, some of them would be Superficial and tense. The mother and Stan do not act like grown ups, or like normal parents would do, when their child strips in front of the entire school, they just make fun of her! And they do not even ask her if something is wrong. And Stan is not a father figure for Clara, He walks around in the house all most naked, and he gets to close, you could say he does not respect her privacy. The relationship between the mother and Clara is more like a friendship than a normal mother and daughter relationship. And the mothers way of learning Clara about sex is terrible, she just give Clara a magazine...

...University Health Services: Walk-In Clinic Evaluation of The Triage System Implementation ------------------------------------------------- Background and Introduction It had been 1 year after University Health Services (UHS) of Harvard implemented the triage system to improve its quality of service. During pre-triage system, the clinic got a lot of complaint from its patients mainly about the waiting time between sign-in and treatment as some patients (22%) had to wait more than 35 minutes to make first consultation with a nurse. In some cases, patients had to spent more than 55 minutes just to wait for a prescription renewal. Additionally, it was also reported that some patients cancelled their visits to the click due to long expected wait. Patients described the Walk-In Clinic as cold, inefficient and impersonal. Although the last statement could be debatable as the walk-in clinic is not intended as a personal and exclusive health services. Service evaluation identified that some procedures in pre-triage had contributed to the bottleneck and duplicate services which had caused longer waiting time for the patients. It was Kathryn Angell who was hired as assistant director for ambulatory care at the UHS proposed the triage system in order to improve the performance of the clinic in providing services for its patients. Some changes were made to better manage the service quality including to deploy two triage coordinators (selected from highly experienced registered nurses)...

...The Ones Who Walked Away From Omelas Marlene Monarrez University Of Phoenix ENG125 James Iddings February 24,2012 Overview Imagine a city of perfection, where excitement fills the streets and happiness is present within every household. In the short story The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas by Ursula Le Guin, this is exactly what is described. LeGuin starts the story by introducing us to the utopian city of Omelas. However, the survival of Omelas’ happiness depends on the mistreatment of one forsaken child. Although all of the citizens know about the child, most choose to accept that “all the prosperity and beauty and delight would wither and be destroyed” if the child were treated fairly. Some, on the other hand, after seeing the child and the horrible conditions it lives in, decide to walk away from it all and leave Omelas forever. LeGuin’s fantasy utopia is much like the world we live in today. There are many who suffer at the expense of those who prosper every day. Symbolism People in the world today undergo an immense amount of suffering just for the happiness of others. One example that I can think of off the top of my head would be slavery. For over two hundred years, Africans were the property of others (usually wealthy White men). They were bought, sold and held against their will. In a sense, slavery reminds me a lot of the child that was locked away in Omelas. People knew about it but there was very little that they could do. Much like the child in Omelas...

...Rick Ankiel is known amongst baseball fans for his unprecedented failure as a pitcher and his stunning comeback as an outfielder. A lot of mystery surrounds Ankiel’s sudden ineffectiveness as a pitcher. A brief stint in the majors in 1999, starting only five games, showed flashes of what 19-year-old Ankiel was capable of. During a brilliant rookie campaign in the 2000 season, in which he finished second in National League Rookie of the Year voting, Ankiel sported a 3.50 Earned Run Average (ERA) and struck out 194 batters in 175.0 innings pitched (Rick Ankiel Stats, 2017). Given Ankiel’s success on the mound, Cardinals manager Tony La Russa chose to start him in game one of the National League Divisional Series against the Atlanta Braves. Starting...

...expand her sales along while her customers begin to increase. Applying Porter’s Five Forces Analysis The object of UMUC haircuts is to produce more customers while keeping the employee scheduling at a minimal. The Buyer Power of Myra’s customers are high. Myra’s strategy is affective. The Supplier Power of the business is low. Myra’s strategy is not so affective. Threat of new entrant at the salon would be high. She has a strategy that will work. Rivalry between competitors at the salon will be high and it most probably will affect the shop. Substitute products that are at the salon will not affect Myra’s strategy. They will be considerably high. Generic Strategies The Broad Market will bring in more customers in larger numbers that would have the effect of lowering buyer power. The low cost of supplies will help increase the supplier power and it will help UMUC sell their goods more and increase its sales. Selling products that are cheaper will help boost the supplier power while keeping the customers to pay a minimal when it comes to hair or nail products. Along with the nail station if an UMUC hair salon adds waxing to their list of services it will not just help improve sales it will bring in customers of every need and age. Strategic Business Area The business area that seems perfect for UMUC hair salon is the customers. Permanent customers are not so the problem but walk INS and customers that will look at the time of wait will determine if and when...

...approach our diet is one of the most difficult decisions we will always continuously encounter in our lives. It is easy to just pick a food and begin to eat. However, it is difficult to eat well. Eating a nutritional diet along with having a good amount of physical activity during our day is difficult to manage; well for me that is. According to my nutrition analysis, I lack fruits, vegetables, and dairy in my diet. Three nutritional goals I will set for myself are to stop skipping meals, eat fruits instead of junk foods for snacks, and to drink milk before I go to bed. Three fitness goals I will set for myself are to go on runs during the weekend, participate in physical activities instead of in-door activities, and reduce screen time. To begin with, I created a goal for myself to stop skipping meals because I tend to this often. This goal is important to me because it will increase my energy throughout the day. The meals I tend to skip daily is breakfast and sometimes lunch. As a worker, student, and athlete it is crucial for me to eat a good meal because I continuously need it throughout the day. It is noticeable on my food journal analysis that I skip meals because I eat a lot during dinner time. I use dinner time as a chance to catch up on my...

Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ Historical Analysis In regards to authorship and recipient, there are disagreements in the many opinions of scholars. In the thought of authorship, “a good number of scholars have esteemed Ephesians as “the crown” of Paul’s thought.” However, according to O’Brien, “contemporary scholars, who have claimed that Paul was not the author of Ephesians, have maintained that the writer of the...
