#2. Chs. 1:18-3:20 Sin
We're damned! Paul takes time to help us see that mankind is worthy of the wrath of God. The ignorance of man is displayed in the supressing of the simple and plain truth that God is real and he has a righeous design(decreee) for this world. This is a section addressed to the Gentiles of the world. The wrath of God is on it's way, and this section shows us why.
So yeah, the prolouge is done, and everyone of Paul's readers should be nice and prepared as he uses this section to completely floor them with the revelatio of the sin inside of them.
The Gospel in ways is similar to medical care. If the patient doesn't know his state of decaying health, he won't understand why he needs to see a doctor. Paul explains to the Romans …show more content…
Sinful desires, shameful lusts, warped thoughts of a depraved mind, God let us, sinful mankind go do what we wanted because we desired it and would not turn and do what was right. Some text says he abandoned us.
And mankind walking abandoned, like a world with no order, spiarled out of control in a steady progression of stages of sin. Godlessness turns to darkened hearts, darkend hearts lead to idolatry, which leads to sensuality, which leads to homosexuality, which leads to a list of other sisns and finally ends in death.
We're dommed, too! Paul takes the focus off of the Gentiles that he spoke of, and now puts it firmly on the Jews( the believers or people of God). This hits home with anyone who thinks that they are deserving of God's love because of their track record of God works( Luke 18:9-14)
Paul was once very much a man of his own righetousness(adhering to the law), so he would know all too well that this got him no where. He spoke directly to his people, the Jews. But the message he proclaims here, this messages is for you and I just as well. To hold yourself above others is hypocricy as you ignore the flaws, the sins, the evil you do, and condemn others(to exalt yourself further). Even the great King David was guilty of sin, and vividly saw that no one was righteous, "not even one". So the Jews could not boast as if they were, if the greatest earthly king they ever had wasn't even. And ultimately, neither can we, because in our heatrs, our selfrighteousness nulifies the Gospel ( that he would explain soon).
Paul explains that there is law for the believers and law for the non believers. They have God's law on their conscious, we have his written word. Even though they don't have the word of God, some follow their conscious and seek to do Good, and even though we have the word, we don't adhere to it. Because of believers, the non believers mock and ridcule(blaspheme) God's name.
Foolishly, some believed that because the more that sin was present, the more grace became present, that their sin was a good thing. Paul just puts it blunt that those people are dumb and deserved eternal damnation. When we sin, we sin against God, so why would that somehow be a good thing? You really would have to be dumb to think that because if you really believe in the bible, you see that sin is why we lost perfect harmony in life, and ultimately it is why God's son had to
