On January 31st 1865 the Thirteenth Amendment was passed into law, abolishing slavery. The Jim Crow Laws then took control of racial discrimination by instituting strict segregation of the races. The case of Plessy vs. Ferguson in 1896 only furthered white supremacy after The Supreme Court voted a majority on “separate but equal” facilities. Fundamentally, the Color line is the activity of race and racism in history and society.
Du Bois states how racism presents itself in three major ways. The first being violent acts of dissimulation. Often we find progressive breakdown and destruction of a people's life in colonialism and imperialism, or in globalization. The European superpower has dominated, monopolized, and exploited the greater part of the underdeveloped nations meanwhile implanting people's perception of “color” or race as synonymous with inferiority. This ideology ranges from the most basics of biological, religious, and cultural absurdities. Du Bois explains how history separates African Americans from the rest of history, how biology has exaggerated Africans physical differences, and psychology has shamed them with the intelligence test even though race when considered in in biological terms, could refer to nothing else than a group with distinct genetic concentrations. History and social science has continued to interpret African American presence in a false sense. He states how social sciences from the beginning was deliberately used to prove slaves inadequacy and how they were used for the comfort and culture of their masters. (392?) Negative assumptions are then formed resulting in an attitude of hostility and hatred because of their assumptions about biology and
