...Analysis of Research Report Mara Morris Statistical Applications HCS/438 May 4, 2014 Silvio Di Gregorio Analysis of Research Report Introduction The article “How much do parents know about first aid for burns” presents results of a two-month study conducted at University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. The premise of the study was to verify if a relationship existed between the general knowledge of initial first-aid treatment for burns and age, gender, education, ethnicity and socioeconomic status. The Statistical Procedures Mentioned in the Study Pearson’s chi-squared test was used to determine if there was any correlation between genders, education level, age and first-aid knowledge. The use of logistic regression was employed so that all variables could be compared. There was found to be insufficient data collected to evaluate any relationship based on ethnicity. The Conclusions Reached in the Study It was concluded that people of lower socioeconomic status were less likely to have knowledge of initial first-aid treatment for burns. They were also less likely to have had any first-aid training. Persons of a higher socioeconomic status were more likely to have received first-aid education, which 40% of those stated they had received their first-aid training through their workplace. The study did not show any statistical significance for gender or age in the basic knowledge of first-aid for burns, but did show that prior first-aid training reflected better knowledge...

...Analysis of Research Reports In France, the number of macrosomic baby delivery (infants with a birth weight above 97th percentile) for gestational age has increased from 2.3% to 2.5% from 1994 to 2008. Most publications focused on neonatal and only few studies focused on maternal and perineal outcomes. The study was to investigate whether or not the policy of induction of labor for women with large baby might reduce the maternal morbidity. The purpose of this paper will interpret the statistical significance of the study. This cohort study used the AUDIPOG sentinel network database, which “comprises public and private maternity units from every region in France” (Vendittelli, Françoise, et al, 2014). The database includes 411,734 pregnancies between 1994 and 2008. The ineligible were those who deliveries before 37 weeks, multiple pregnancies, inappropriate fetal position, women with diabetes, and missing information of birth weight or sex. Therefore, only 3077 pregnancies with suspected large-for-gestational-age (LGA) fetus were eligible to participate (Vendittelli, Françoise, et al, 2014). LGA defined as “a neonate whose birth weight is at least 1.88 standard deviations (SD) higher than the mean (≥2 SD) for the infant’s gestational age and sex, that is, the 97th percentile for gestational age, based on data derived from the reference population included in our database. At 37 weeks, LGA was defined as 3,836 g for a boy and 3,691 g for a girl” (Vendittelli...

A survey was used as the statistical procedure and a chi-square test was used as a statistical test. The statistical procedure used in this study of adoption is a questionnaire. They were mailed to directors of adoption programs from public and private adoption agencies across the United States. The total was 891. Two-hundred-fourteen of the questionnaires were used in the study. The questionnaires were from 194 private adoption agencies from 45 different states and 20 questionnaires from 20 public adoption agencies from 13 different states. From the 214 questionnaires used in the study, 165 were women and only 28 were men. The mean of their ages were 46.5. “The questionnaire was designed to identify current adoption agency policies and practices, as well as social casework attitudes, regarding adoption of children by lesbians and gay men.” The questionnaire conducted was of 13 questions. ...Analysis of Newspaper Research Report Results Rolanda Redman HCS/438 July 12, 2015 Sil Di Gregorio Analysis of Newspaper Research Report Results The Chicago Tribune published an article educating readers on the perils of children riding in vehicles of inebriated drivers. The study confirmed that driving under the influence (DUI) related deaths among children reveals the children were riding in the vehicle of the inebriated driver. This recklessness needs to stop before another child pays the consequences of an irresponsible individual. Gregory & Ziezulewicz, (2014) report from 2001 to 2010, 2,344 children under age 15 were killed in crashes involving at least one alcohol-impaired driver. Illinois recorded 42 of those deaths during that time, holds one of the lower rates of child passengers killed in crashes involving impaired drivers. South Dakota had the highest rate. New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts registered the lowest rates. The report reveals of those 2,344 deaths, 1,515 of the children were with impaired drivers. Most of the drivers survived the crashes, while the unrestrained children died. In this writer’s opinion, this article used descriptive statistics to get the point across to the readers. This writer’s thinks the authors of the article are trying to use these statistics as a tragic example of the recklessness of the driver. The authors cited their references but the reader would have to do research to see if the numbers are actually...

...Analysis of Newspaper Research Report Results Paper Diana Hernandez HCS/438 6/8/2015 Dr. Silvio Di Gregorio Introduction In this article, Wang (2014) has written about several studies which allow us to explore the possibility of risk factors that are associated with the link to autism before birth, and to look at what scientific evidence is showing as opposed to what the media coverage speculates about autism. This challenges us to approach the risks of autism different from what recent press attention has written about it and to explore other clues into autistic brains. The Statistical Procedures Mentioned in the Study New studies show that abnormalities may appear in autistic brains prior to birth. The purpose of this article is to open people’s eyes to true risk factors associated with autism and not false beliefs. The measure of risk ratio was used to compare odds of different circumstances in the life and environment of autistic children. The big question Wang asks is “How large is the increase risk for autism?” According to the CDC (2015), the Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) network estimates one out of every 68 children is identified with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). In the last few years, the focus has shifted from environmental factors and the diagnosis at the age of two or three, and the new focus is on the importance of inheritance factors. The risk factors are divided into two sections. One side shows the amount of time...
