In chapter 5 of the book, A Different Mirror, written by Ronald Takaki, it talks about slavery and many different slavery stereotypes. In chapter 6, Takaki talks about women in the work force and the factory and house servant jobs, and he also touches up on Irish immigrant. To continue, Takaki talks about the Mexicans control over California in chapter 7. Furthermore, in chapter 8 Takaki discusses the experiences of Chinese immigrants during the late 1800’s. In one lecture, we discussed some key terms and we also went over the Privilege Score Index. In the following lecture, we discussed more key terms such as: Mise-en-scène, ethnicity, and epistemology. In chapter 6, I found it confusing as to why so many Irish immigrants came to America to work. While in chapter 7, I found it confusing how the Mexicans could sell their land without knowing the exact measurement or exact amount they are selling. In chapter 8 however, I found it confusing that so many Chinese immigrants came to America in search for gold. In one lecture, I found it confusing to understand the difference between race and ethnicity. While in another lecture, I found it confusing as to how the Privilege Score Index tied in with the course, even though I thought it was quite interesting. One thing I found confusing in Dances With Wolves, is how he got injured in the beginning scene of the movie. In Far And Away, I thought it was confusing as to how Shannon’s parents had figured out she had gone to America. I felt a strong positive reaction to the ending of Dances With Wolves. Towards the end, it was looking like Dunbar was going to be killed or kept a prisoner, but instead he can make it out alive and continue to assist the Indian tribe he became a part
