Finance In 2010, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was legalized. Its main goal was to decrease the number of uninsured citizens in the United States and make healthcare more affordable. Since the ACA created shared responsibility the United States healthcare system is financed through numerous private and public sources. Public sources are considered government based such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). After that, three regulations based on the Affordable Care Act will be discussed. Finally, the Constitutionality of the ACA will be discussed as it refers to two landmark cases. Five Provisions of the ACA There are many provisions in Affordable Care Act, and all the provisions I choose are from title III—improve the quality and efficiency of health care. In my opinion, the most important factors of health care are the quality and efficiency which are indispensable in the Affordable Care Act. My choices are about the data collection from the patient and privacy protection, the performance report, the treatment for cancer hospitals, prescription drug’s benefit and risk, and guarantee benefit for Medicare. The Impoance of the Aca

...Running head: THE IMPORTANCE OF THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT (ACA) 1 The Importance of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Nicole M. Anderson Argosy University THE IMPORTANCE OF THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT (ACA) 2 When it comes to insurance, there may be more questions than answers. The rules concerning all types of insurance have changed over the years. The one thing that hasn’t changed is the fact that there are penalties to pay when we choose not to follow the rules. The government has now stepped in to monitor and confirm that we are in compliance with the laws set forth. When we are not in compliance the government will assess fines on all people and business owners considered to be a large employer that will increase with every year that passes. Insurance is a very important necessity to have in this day and time; without it the penalties can be great. You may be asking yourself this million-dollar question, why was it so important for the government to pass the Affordable Care Act (ACA) law? Health Insurance has been on top of the discussion list within the governmental agencies for some time now. “On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act (ACA) into law, putting in place comprehensive reforms that improve access to affordable health coverage for everyone and protect consumers from abusive insurance company practices.” (Health Care that Works for Americans 2016). Healthcare System in Turmoil

...Health Care System in Turmoil Alice Felton MHA 622 Healthcare Ethics & Law Dr. Teresita Gonzalez August 5, 2012 Health Care System in Turmoil The current health care system in the United States is in turmoil for many years because of two major problems which continues to be: patient access to care and the cost of care. There are well over 50 million Americans who continue to be uninsured today and a national health care tax called the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 has been passed and challenged and upheld by the United States Supreme Court, as a tax not a law, here recently which is suppose to be an answer to most of our health care insurance issues. Even though most Americans may agree that our health care system is in turmoil and needs to be reformed, not everyone agrees that a national health care tax is the solution. In the United States as the health care system continues to be in turmoil the patients are continuing to struggle to keep their medical care and that can be either if they are trying to maintain at least a standard of care or just simply hoping that the medical facility that they may prefer, such as a local hospital or community center will be able to stay in business, or that they will have continued accessed to emergency rooms even if they are the uninsured. In the midst of this health care system turmoil there are other segments in the health care sector that may be experiencing financial problems, such...

The Fate of Uninsured Veterans

...Policy Analysis Paper The fate of uninsured Veterans: A policy Analysis University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Nursing Define the problem and assemble the evidence Too many Veterans in the United States lack health insurance and are ineligible to receive care provided by the Veteran’s Health Administration. According to American Community Survey (ACS) conducted in 2010, one in 10 of the nation’s 12.5 million veterans under the age of 65 is uninsured. A veteran is defined by federal law as any person who served for any length of time in any military service branch. Contrary to the presumption of most, not all veterans qualify for free healthcare through the Department of Veteran Affairs. The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) operates as a branch of the Department of Veterans Affairs and is the largest health system in the nation. It is recognized for its commitment to providing high-quality population specific healthcare. The VHA also works closely with academic medical centers across the nation. Haley and Kenney (2012) identify eligibility for health care provided by the VHA as being on veteran status, service-connected disabilities and income level. Other factors include demographic location and cost sharing requirements. Health insurance coverage for veterans as with other groups of nonelderly adults has heavy dependence on access to employer sponsored insurance (ESI) and the costs of obtaining it. It must also be considered that the majority of...

...Funding the Rising Cost of U.S. Health Care. BY Vilando. HSA500 November 15, 2015 Funding the Rising Cost of U.S. Health Care. The United States continues to spend significantly more on health care than any country in the world, however, even though with this statistics the U.S has a lot of uninsured and does not have the healthiest citizens. In this paper, opinions will be given on the rising cost of overall’s health care’s impact in the U.S economy, followed by a comparising and contrasting factors impacted by the new health care act, pros and cons of using the private insurance rather than using the new health care reforms and the cost associated with its implementation and access to different groups will also be discussed. Rising Cost of Health Care The cost of the U.S health care system is higher than any country in the world. Its efficiency is also under serious scrutiny. If it was not an emergency, most physicians would require insurance verification. Therefore patients will be delayed of treatment. Moreover, the health care system in the U.S should be redesigned in terms of prevention rather than treatment with people who are already sick. Insurance should not go higher for people that have pre-existing conditions or with more health risk. Also the emergence and new discoveries in the field of...

Affordable Healthcare Act

...How Does Your Business Fair? (The Impact of Affordable Care Act on Small Business) On March 23, 2010 President Obama signed into law the comprehensive health reform known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act informally known as Affordable Care Act. According to the Executive Office of the President, Council of Economic Advisors (EOP/CEA), “the key goals of health care reform is to reduce the growth rate of costs while maintaining choice of doctors and health plans and assuring quality, affordable health care for all Americans.” (The Economic Case for Health Care Reform, June 2009) The ACA is created to improve the overall quality of health care delivery and its’ systems while adding new consumer protections. In the ACA there is a clause known as the individual mandate. This mandate requires most U.S. citizens and legal residents to obtain qualifying health care insurance coverage, and if not will be required to pay a tax penalty. Effective January 1, 2014 employers with fifty or more employees that do not provide affordable health coverage will receive an assessment where for those businesses with less than fifty employees are exempt. States have created health benefit exchanges for individuals and small businesses through which health coverage can be purchased at affordable prices. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) published several fact sheets and brochures highlighting what the ACA means for large and small businesses, individuals...

Policy Intervuew Analysis

...Policy Interview Analysis For this essay I chose to interview Carla, a Registered Nurse, with twenty years of experience, from the Operating Room. She has seen many changes occur in healthcare during his career. This paper will discuss some of the values he finds most important for creating an equal healthcare system. In order to establish an equal healthcare system, coverage needs to be affordable, with equal opportunities for everyone, and American’s need to feel they have the freedom of choice for the type of coverage they want. Healthcare coverage first of all, needs to be affordable. Employers should pay all or most of the healthcare premiums to cover their employees. The coverage should be competitive and at the same time the employee should have the right to choose if they want to be covered or seek private insurance. Mandatory physical exams and blood work should be discussed in detail at employee forums and human resources should not just assume all employees know their coverage rights. Physician’s office staff should be well educated in insurance literacy to let their patients know what their coverage rights are. This will keep the patient from getting a surprisingly high statement in the mail. Those who are eligible for Medicare should not have deductibles. If they are on Medicare then they obviously fall below some standard and therefore do not have the money to pay for medical coverage. Carla states, “Medicare should not be eliminated unless...

Health Care Affordability

...Affordability on Access to Health Care Services: a Case Study of Texas Introduction Access to healthcare arguably forms an integral aspect of human existence. However, in recent times, access to health care appears to have been militated by Health care and health insurance laws, the US policies on health insurances, earnings of an individual and a host of other factors. Although the enactment of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) appears to serve as a partial force which enables people to have access to health care if earnings are below the stipulated national minimum wage, however the extent to which this solve this situation is still a subject of controversy (Sommers, Buchmueller, Decker, Carey, & Kronick,...

Accountable Care Act

...The Affordable Care Act and Grady Hospital Atlanta Metropolitan Market The Atlanta Metropolitan market for healthcare services is dominated by nonprofit healthcare systems, including the academic medical system Emory Healthcare. Emory became the largest healthcare system in the market after its acquisition of St. Joseph’s Hospital of Atlanta. It is expected that the consolidation of healthcare systems will continue as healthcare reform and market forces make it difficult for smaller hospitals to remain independent. The 28 county Atlanta market has 43 acute-care hospitals with an estimated 459,909 inpatient discharges annually and 9,796 total acute-care beds. The average daily occupancy rate is 64 percent, and the average length of stay is 4.9 days (A Decision Resources Group Company, 2012). Grady as a Public Hospital Grady Health System operates Grady Memorial Hospital which is Atlanta’s public safety net hospital. Grady currently serves 7 % of the Atlanta market and Grady’s market share is 22 % Medicaid and 22 % self pay or uninsured. After the implementation of the ACA, one would assume that Grady will continue to serve 22% of Medicaid patients and 22% of the uninsured. Grady will continue to be Atlanta’s safety net hospital after the full implementation of the ACA (A Decision Resources Group Company, 2012). Grady has the only Level I Trauma center in the region and the state’s only poison center. Grady Memorial Hospital offers extensive medical care that other area...

To concur with a large number of new customer proposals, T&W is now hiring 100 new employees, 50 of them being fulltime associates, equaling a total of 150 individuals, 75 fulltime and 75 part time employees. The company must find the most cost effective insurance plan to provide too all 75 new and current fulltime employees health insurance to abide by the Affordable Care Act requirements. . T&W’s Insurance Costs Increase: The Significance and Solution This significance of the solution is huge because if T&W Operations does not provide affordable health coverage to 75 fulltime associates, the company will pay a tax penalty of $2000 a person minus the first 30 employees, meaning T&W will owe $90,000 annually to the remaining 45 employees who did not receive insurance for a particular time period. According to the online forum www.obamacarefacts.com, “ The Obama Care "employer mandate" is a requirement that all businesses with over 50 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees provide health insurance for their full-time employees, or pay a per month "Employer Shared Responsibility Payment" on their federal tax return.” The purpose of this research is to conclude how T&W Operations will afford health care to new and existing employees without incurring...
