...Module: Business Analysis and Assessment Week: 06 Discussion Question Name: Sahr Dauda Date: 18 July 2012 Question: How would you justify spending time and money on a business analysis of your company? Can such an exercise really pay off in ways that make it worth the effort? Analysis, as summed up from my readings, can be regarded as a clinical and structured decomposition of a subject into its constituent parts with the aim of acquiring salient information and deeper understanding of the said subject and to offer robust solutions for improvements. It is thus a process that is inherently iterative and involves, as proffered by Williamson et al., (2004), lots of research to gain deeper insight into the business which encompasses all aspects of the business and its environment. In short, it is a holistic process that unearths the secrets of the business and identifies areas needing attention. It thus seeks to find answers to questions like where is the business now, what does it do and how does it do it, where does it want to go and how can this be achieved (Williamson et al., 2004). Yes, it consumes time and money but insights so garnered from the analytical process leading to formation of strategies will give the business a favourable competitive position and superior profitability. To reduce time and money spent, analytical tools are used to aid in the process, besides bringing structure to it. Note here that only the right necessary tools are used, as a few too...

...Organizational Research/ Analysis Paper Organizational Research/Analysis Paper: Starbucks In 1971 Starbucks was founded on a love for coffee. Three businessmen, Gordon Bowker, Jerry Baldwin, and Zev Siegl, had a desire to share that love with Seattle by opening a small coffee shop known as Starbucks Coffee, Tea & Spice. Ten years later Starbucks had grown to four retail stores located throughout the Seattle area. Whole bean coffee was sold at all four locations. Upon reaching 100 stores in 1992 the company went public. Starbucks grew at an exponential pace thereafter, into a successful, well-known international organization that helps roughly 35 million customers a week (Stanley, 2002). The purpose of this paper is to discuss and analyze Starbucks’ organizational structure, organizational behaviors in communication and ethical decision making, and organizational goals. Organizational structure “is depicted through its organizational chart and recognizes concepts of differentiation and integration” (Anthony, Gales & Hodge, 2003). It’s a “formal composition of task and reporting relationships that allows the company to control, coordinate, and motivate employees so a common goal can be achieved (Hitt, 2008). Starbucks uses a matrix configuration by combining divisional and functional structures. Because of the complexity of matrix structures, Starbucks is categorized as a mechanistic organization, which entails high vertical and horizontal complexity, high formalization...

...Autobiography Born August twenty sixth nineteen eighty-nine, my sun sign is Virgo, my moon is in Cancer, and my rising sign is Aries. My name is Violet Ye and as an artist the world is my inspiration. However, it all begins somewhere and for me my inspiration began in high school. For most students high school is a time for jokes and growth but personally art filtered its’ way to the back of my mind and grew from each day on. One never quite knows how far they can go until they are pushed, or at the very least believed in. One man stands out amongst the bland beige lockers and looks into the future of every student he passes. I began taking an art class of his in ninth grade and continued with such until my senior year. This man not only taught me the world of art I continue to love, he also showed me that you are not bound to one choice in life. Aside from being an intelligent human being he spent his free time as a pilot flying mostly in air shows and rocked every spot in town on his bass. Ever see someone play bass with a shoe? Art club show downs were always something to remember. Between drama with friends and families fighting it becomes easy to loose yourself in the drain of high school. Looking back, if I had not had someone to keep me pushing towards my future it would have surely been lost. Beginning as a shy new girl, I left that school stronger, smarter and ready to take on the world. Of course college life beings you to a completely different...

...Analysis of Newspaper Research Report Results Paper Diana Hernandez HCS/438 6/8/2015 Dr. Silvio Di Gregorio Introduction In this article, Wang (2014) has written about several studies which allow us to explore the possibility of risk factors that are associated with the link to autism before birth, and to look at what scientific evidence is showing as opposed to what the media coverage speculates about autism. This challenges us to approach the risks of autism different from what recent press attention has written about it and to explore other clues into autistic brains. The Statistical Procedures Mentioned in the Study New studies show that abnormalities may appear in autistic brains prior to birth. The purpose of this article is to open people’s eyes to true risk factors associated with autism and not false beliefs. The measure of risk ratio was used to compare odds of different circumstances in the life and environment of autistic children. The big question Wang asks is “How large is the increase risk for autism?” According to the CDC (2015), the Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) network estimates one out of every 68 children is identified with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). In the last few years, the focus has shifted from environmental factors and the diagnosis at the age of two or three, and the new focus is on the importance of inheritance factors. The risk factors are divided into two sections. One side shows the amount of time...

...ANALYSIS OF MARKET COMPETITION, SWITCHING COSTS AND ITS CONSEQUENCES IN TELECOMMUNICATIONS IN NEPAL NAME: SAROJ POUDEL DEGREE: MASTER OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS/MASTER OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY COURSE: 7112ICT RESEARCH METHODS IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY INTRODUCTION The economics of switching costs and network effects have achieved a significant amount of popular, as well as professional attention in the last few decades. It is presently defined as the core factor for new Information Technology economy. Switching costs originates, if a consumer demands a product, or its related accessories(hardware or software), of his own purchases to be compatible with each other this creates economies of scope among his purchases from a single supplier. Whereas network effects arise when a user wants his system to be compatible so that s/he can interact or trade with other users, or switch to the same compatible system, which leads to the creation of economies of scope between different incompatible products. Thus these economies of scope impacts the consumer’s buying and switching behavior between various products. The state of lock-in arises when the switching cost is sufficiently high so that the consumer proceeds using the same product rather than switching to the different product. Lock in is the state where the cost of switching exceeds the benefits of switching. Economics of switching costs is the summation of various types of switching costs including: compatibility...

...Business Research Methods Project On Conjoint Analysis Identifying Key Product Attributes & Product Designing of Mobile Phones Abstract This paper intends to explore consumer preferences for Mobile phones attributes, to determine the optimal combination for consumers, and to provide manufacturers a reference for their marketing strategies. In this study, consumers were divided into several demographics (age, gender, occupation) and individual preferences for various mobile phone attributes were compared. Consumers showed significant demographical difference in their preferences over the combination of mobile phones attributes. The various combination of mobile phone attributes were grouped together. Subjects were asked to rank the 22 product profiles (Pair1 to Pair22) from the most to the least preferred. The variables Pref1 through Pref7 contain the IDs of the associated product profiles, that is, the card IDs. Subject 1, for example, liked pair13 most of all, so PREF1 has the value 13. Analysis of the data is a task that requires the use of command syntax—specifically, the CONJOINT command. The necessary command syntax has been provided in the file conjoint.sps. Literature Review N. Soutar et al. (2008), the study aims to examine its relevance in exploring the trade-offs followers make about leaders.
