In this project I have also included an industry analysis for teenage girl magazines in 2009 and an overview of the marketing mix for both our brand Seventeen as well as Teen Vogue. In conclusion, I have proposed 3 recommendations to better target our audience, build better brand equity, as well as expanding our distribution channels. These recommendations include narrowing our target market, creating a television show, and building a brand store. Thank you giving me this opportunity to analyze the industry and marketing mixes of both brands. In addition, I hope that my three recommendations will better the company in the future. ...disasters. Ironically, in academic circles recognition of the value of spirituality as a coping mechanism has been slow. However, in the current post September 11 environment, greater attention has been given to the value of spiritual care in the treatment of victims of emotional trauma particularly in disaster mental health studies. In this paper the value of spirituality in providing emotional care to survivors of trauma is analyzed. Why is the value of spirituality in emotional care important to me? Conventional wisdom has held to the notion that boys are better at math than girls. Perhaps, this age old belief was responsible for Mattel the company that produced “Teen talk Barbie” in 1992 to create a Barbie doll that had among its stored phrases, one phrase that said, “Math class is tough!”. This phrase was stored with 270 other girl talk phrases such as “I love shopping” and “Will we have enough clothes!”. The result was that Mattel was soundly criticized and quickly changed the doll’s offending phrase a few months later. In spite of Mattel’s effort to correct a message that verbalized an inherent cultural bias, one wonders if the is any accuracy to the stereotype that associate math being difficult with the female gender and whether math is less difficult for males. Bryner (2007) indicated that women are still outnumbered by men in math science and engineering fields. Tachibana (2010) posited that as much as 90 percent of the engineers...

Additionally, this exploration is organized by each theoretical view. Furthermore, this review includes the opinion of this writer’s strongest theoretical perspective, as well as considering additional questions relating to the correlation of micro and macro sociology within the film. Thus, the film chosen for this analysis is “Mean Girls”, the 2004 comedy with a moral plot which is written by Tina Fey and directed by Mark Waters. Indeed, this film relates to the sociological area of gender and by watching this film through different lenses, this writer ascertains the intricacies of each role and function...

...Multicultural Analysis Elizabeth Alston ENG157 March 11, 2013 Melissa Sheppard Multicultural Analysis Multicultural literature offers the reader a brief look into a new or unknown culture. The traditions, values, beliefs, and lifestyle are revealed through the story, and the reader realizes why certain actions or decisions are made. In the various stories throughout this course there are common themes represented in many. Modern ideas and traditional beliefs often disagree and this is shown in Chinua Achebe’s “Dead Men’s Path,” Chitra Divakaruni’s “Mrs Dutta Writes a Letter,” and Subhadra Sen Gupta’s “Good Girls Are Bad News.” These stories illustrate the conflict between modern ways of thinking versus traditional beliefs and if the ability to change is present. Every culture has their traditions and practices that make them who they are. These traditions are learned from past generations and continually passed on. It takes many years to change common customs as well as open minds. When something is practiced decade after decade it makes it harder to accept change, especially for the older generations who are very much set in their ways. This is demonstrated in all three stories. In “Dead Men’s Path” it is the young headmaster, Obi who wants to move forward and eliminate the path from the school as he thinks it is not necessary. Obi believes the school’s appearance is more important than years and years of tradition. In “Mrs Dutta Writes a Letter” it is the...

...A Little Princess (1995) I chose the movie ‘A Little Princess’ because it showed the perseverance of a little girl during her darkest times. She was faced with a disastrous situation, yet it did not change who she was, a kind and gentle person. Synopsis The movie takes place during World War 1. The main protagonist, Sara Crewe, is a fun-loving and kind hearted little girl who loved to hear stories. She grew up in India but was later enrolled in a seminary for girls in New York when her father, Captain Crew, decided to fight for British in WW1. He was quite wealthy and made sure that Sara would not have any sort of discomfort. Many other students liked Sara and her exciting stories, while others grew jealous over her popularity. The seminary’s headmistress, Miss Minchin, is very intolerant and narrow-minded. One day Sara gets the news that her father died in the battle and all his wealth and estate is seized by the government. Miss Minchin forces Sara to be a servant along with the other servant girl, Becky. Sara still continues being who she was. When taunted by her headmistress, she firmly said she believed that ‘every girl is a princess’. In the end, we find out that Sara’s father didn’t die but had severe amnesia and temporary blindness. When he regained his memory, he came for Sara. Miss Minchin got kicked out off the seminary and became a chimney sweep, working under a boy whom she mistreated in the past. Topic I am interested in learning about social inequality and...

...Juliette Gordon Low: Analysis of Development By: Mary E. Dean May 3, 2014 Lifespan Development Walden University Spring Quarter 2014 Prof. V. Salzer Juliette Gordon Low is most recognized for founding and running what is now known as Girl Scouts of America. Her insight and forward thinking for her time led to this astonishing achievement but what did it take for her to get there, who or what influenced her to rise above the conventional thinking of her time and forge to such great heights? In this analysis I hope to discover answers to that question while exploring age old concepts like nature versus nurture and comparing such development theories like Erickson’s stages of development and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Juliette Gordon Low, or Daisy as she was known in her childhood, was born October 31, 1860 into a life of privilege in Savannah, GA. Juliette was the second oldest of six children. Her father William Washington Gordon was born in the south and strongly believed in the true southern traditions such as owning slaves and that the South should succeed from the Union. While her mother, Eleanor Lytle Kinzie whose family helped to found the city of Chicago and believed intensely in abolition. These opposing views caused much anguish for Juliette’s mother during the Civil War and would play a strong influence on the family dynamics as Juliette grew up. While her parents described her has having a sweet personality and caring disposition her sibling...

...My weaknesses in writing are specifying and using transitional words. These are the things that affect my score on the essays and they are things I need to improve at for college and I am eager to find new ways of doing so. These errors are noticeable in my nerd's analysis and rhetorical analysis essays. In my Samuel Johnson rhetorical analysis, I wrote “In addition to that, Johnson’s tone in the letter helped him create an emotional appeal”, which is great but I did not specify the emotional appeal that Jackson was able to create through this use of pathos. I often think that I am using too many words to describe a situation which pushed me away from further explaining what I am stating.Another thing I have a terrible time using are transitional words, I never seem to know when to use them and what counts as a transitional word or phrase. I obviously know the basic first, second third, last but I feel as if those transitional words aren’t strong enough which is why I choose not to use them. I do struggle with this, I am more than willing on researching new transitional words to use in my future essays. One evidence of my poor usage of transitioning is my nerd’s analysis essay, where I started “Something else that was mentioned in the article is…”, which doesn’t sound bad except for the fact that I had just explained the concept of not ostracizing...

...For this course project I have decided to choose The Boys and Girls Club of Metro Atlanta. Today in 2014 I currently stay in the outskirts of Atlanta, GA and I am a product of The Boys and Girls Club. After I graduated from Clark Atlanta University in 2006, I then started a paid internship with The Boys and Girls Club of Metro Atlanta. From past experience until this very day there needs to be more strict background checks implemented when it comes to the basis of hiring volunteers and employees. If a stronger hiring process is not implemented I really feel that this location of the Boys and Girls in Metro Atlanta will be in a crisis because the wrong individual(s) were perhaps mentoring young adolescents that shouldn’t be. If this continues this could ultimately crush the dreams and aspirations of young mind. Today in 2014 there is a new generation when it comes to technology, and it’s improving each and every day of our lives. So it wouldn’t be a bad idea to take opinions and suggestions from the public within the community area of Metro Atlanta. Atlanta isn’t really a big place for the most part, and everybody knows everybody as it may seem scarily strange. These surveys could deliver information about the needs of The Boys and Girls Club of Metro Atlanta, a comments section for the public, and ideas and information that they can share to better the individuals that mentor the young adolescents within the community. So the question is are the children safe and can parents...

...The Analysis of Childhood Obesity Obesity is the accumulation and storage of excessive fat in the body. According to Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Obesity is any weight that is bigger than what is typically considered healthy for a given height. (CDC, 2009). The imbalance between caloric consumption and expenditure is what causes obesity in children and adults. There are factors that affect obesity. Such factors are biological, behavioral, and environmental in nature. When more calories than the body is required are taken, the body stores the excess calorie in form of fat resulting in obesity. The analysis that was researched will focus on a span of about 50 years (1963-2010) with childhood obesity being the dependent variable influenced by the independent variables of age, family median household income, and gender, which will show the correlation to childhood obesity. There were eleven samples of years used in the analysis. The years were inclusive of two or more so an average of the years was used for the data in the eleven observations. The most important variable in this research is how the parent’s income level has been a factor in child obesity, because from research, children from lower income families showed a relation to cause of obesity. The...

...Analysis Essay on “A Sorrowful Woman” Gail Godwin signifies that not all women want to be a full time wife and mother in her short story, “A Sorrowful Woman.” This idea of feminism helps the audience understand the poignant character and her actions. Gail Godwin incorporates this epigraph, “There once was a wife and mother one too many times.”(1st Sent.) This quote at the beginning of her short story implies that the woman should not have been a wife or mother. Her unhappiness in (Para. 1) is based on how she was so sad and it made her sick to see her husband and son. She did not want to be a wife or mother so she tried new things. “She tried these personalities on like costumes, then discarded them.”(Para. 20) This shows how she could not pin-point her true identity; therefore, she tried new personalities, but none of them worked. (Critical Analysis of “A Sorrowful Woman”) When she picked up the pen and pad and attempted to write a poem (Para. 20). She failed to succeed. Because she wanted to be free, all the freedom she did have seemed overwhelming. The sorrowful woman sought to be independent. She moved into her little room and slowly but surely disconnects from her son and husband by not seeing them anymore. (“Critical Analysis of “A Sorrowful Woman”) Because the sorrowful woman could not identify herself, her husband had to fulfill her roles. “I don’t know what to do, it’s all my fault, I’m such a burden.” (Para. 15) The husband, always understanding her feelings, hires...

...focuses on the relevance of social context in teenagers' behaviour. Mead argues that sexual transition peculiarities - the point at which a child becomes an adolescent and possibly sexually active - are due to social and cultural factors more than to biological processes. Throughout her research Mead was interested in comparing the experiences of Samoan and Western adolescents, including their differing experiences of education. In Samoa, according to Mead, there is no pressure on the 'slow' pupil; no feelings of envy, rivalry, impotence and frustration are developed as all have their own pace to learn: there are no 'losers' or 'winners', simply students with different capacities and expectations. This fact could provide some hints in the analysis of school violence, particularly bullying, and can be a way for anthropologists to approach the study of our own societies and the meaning of "senseless violence"* (Blok 2000), as will be discussed below. Another important aspect is the...

...and sporting activities in general. The minimal women participation has become a focal point that has raised various discussions within the various sporting bodies. This campaign, therefore, is geared towards the promotion of participation in sports by young girls, women and the female gender in general. It further encourages the specialization by the identified targeted groups; women and young girls, in their respective fields of choice as dictated by their talents. Several meetings had already been programmed to commence in the month of March 2014, with an aim of the actual campaign running from June. In the reaching out to the various groups of people, and the target groups, several methodologies have been anticipated as a means of communicating to them. These, amongst others, include: activities of media relations, for instance, releases of press, features as well as interviews; unrestricted participation by means of already existing games and teams of club associations; and the social media websites such as Facebook, You Tube, Twitter, Linked In and the Short Messaging Service (SMS). Situational Exploration The very first and foremost phase of our Public Relations (PR) plan will involve the carrying out of an analysis based on the prevailing circumstances...
