Thank You for Arguing Analysis Essay
Jay Heinrichs introduces rhetoric concepts and techniques that help us gain the ability to establish a successful and controlled arguement. The book is divided into five different sections, each in regard to different strategies that teaches us how we can use rhetoric to our advantage. Thank you for Arguing teaches how to prevent arguments from turning into feuds, how to master rhetoric, and get what we want through the art of persuasion. The author doesn't just teach us how to construct an effective argument, but he shows us how argument serves a purpose in our lives, and how to become more aware of why we do it in the first place.
Heinrichs begins his book by introducing the basics of arguing, starting with describing the three important techniques: ethos, pathos, and logos, that will help achieve and win an argument. Continuing through the majority of his book, he discusses logical fallacies that tend to show up in arguments and how to control them successfully. He goes into depth on how arguments seem to begin, how they escalate smoothly; or abruptly, and how they come to a conclusion. The author uses multiple narratives to help demonstrate how we can all benefit from the use of rhetoric to help achieve what we are seeking in an argument.
