Bilheimer structures his narrative to have an infinite chain of the same series of events where the main character forgets what he was doing, and then he repeats the same events that cause him to forget what he was doing in that location in the first place. Sundstrom tells the story of her sister being taken away to the hospital due to a drug addiction. She also flashes back to the good memories that she had with her sister when she was still young and even an event before she was even born having her sister predict that she was having a little sister and not a little brother.
