Hello, everyone. As a member of the production team, I have prepared a short presentation to address you about this poem which I certainly think that will revive the audience of poetry. Poetry is undoubtedly a powerful tool to express complex human nature and experience and can also be used to deliver a meaningful message and to evoke our humanistic feelings to change our attitude in a certain way. This poem, Homecoming by Bruce Dawe has successfully captured a short but commemorative moment of Vietnam War through the use of vivid imagery and aural poetic techniques. Homecoming specifically focuses on many unfortunate Australian soldiers, our soldiers, who were involved in the Vietnam War. The poem emphasises the repercussions of war which is the young soldiers returning home dead. However, the title of the poem itself gives a sense of heartfelt celebration of the return of heroes who have great achievements. However, the homecoming described in the poem is related to death, mourning loss and the arrival of a nameless body is quite different from the heartfelt joy extend to a loved one. Dawe was born in Fitzroy, Victoria in 1930 and is commonly known as ‘The Poet of Suburbia.’ By using poem to recall something that can be an uninteresting topic, the audience will be more willing to gain deeper understanding of the history and remember the soldiers who sacrificed their own lives for
