To make any relationship/ marriage last, there needs to be team work and true love. It is not always perfect or easy and usually you have to remind yourself why you love your significant other time and time again. A Wall of A Fire Rising, is a short story that involves a very un-wealthy couple, the characters are a man named Guy, a woman named Lili and they have a young son that went by the name Little Guy. When you read the story one might see Lilli as unhappy and unappreciative towards her husband Guy which was not the case. Even though Lili was not always happy, she worked hard every day to prove to her husband that she supported and loved him for what he did for their little family. This couple lives a hard-rough life, but Danticat the author of the story helps show Lili’s support and admiration she really does have for Guy even through the tough times by encouraging his dreams and affection. To begin, Lili and Guy live in Haiti with little to know no money and food. Guy was lucky to get a job with the sugar mills where he cleaned the latrines. Guy ever since it has arrived has had a wild dream to fly a rich man’s hot air balloon to get away and make something of himself. Even though the possibility of him ever achieving this dream is slim Lili always reassures him that she believes in him. Lili states “You’re probably intelligent enough to do it,” Danticat, Pg.324; to Guy talking about his ability to fly the balloon. So not only does Lili prove her affection she supports her man’s dreams to remind him that there in this together no matter what to survive this life.
