Daum opens with saying how as a reporter she gets a lot of hate and insults from her readers. But, what caught her attention was how she comes from a wealthy family therefore, grew up with a lot of advantages. She then explains that her parents came from a hardworking and tough life and she didn't grow up poor. But, just like the rest of us, she still struggled to pay for college. Daum explains this because she wants her readers to understand that just because of her families wealth does not mean she did not work hard to get where she is now. Daumfelt that the reason for that comment was to make others achievements irrelevant by saying how it was handed to them and they didn't really earn it.
