Analyzing Elizabeth Bowen's The Demon Lover

"The Demon Lover”, a story written by Elizabeth Bowen, can be interpreted in two ways. In other words it is ambiguous. It can be interpreted as a ghost story or as a psychological one. The first time I read the story I thought of it as a ghost story. Even though Mrs. Drover has psychological problems, other creepy and ghostly actions occur throughout the whole story and this gives out evidence and support that it is a ghost story.

Just as the story begins we can sense creepy actions. For example just as she arrives to London again after the blitz, the streets are deserted and as she walks through them she experiences a feeling of strangeness which overwhelms her.
