Analyzing Florence Kelley's Speech

The speaker Florence Kelley, in her speech, she talks about how she knows that there are so many children that are of such a small age that are working very dangerous jobs. Kelley’s purpose to do this speech is to inform the people of how bad the work condition are for the children that have a job, along with that she mentions a lot about how long they work for. She adopts a passionate tone in order to motivate people to cause a change so that children no longer have to work in such horrible conditions and to also express her anger to a multitude of people that also want their children to stop working in such horrible conditions.
Rhetorical Strategy #1(Pathos)They carry bundles of garments from the factories to the tenements, little beasts of burden, robbed of school life that they may work for us. Kelley uses this sentence to show how bad the working conditions are and on top of that she states how doing this extremely brutal job is actually helpful to the children by making them miss time learning new things in school when it could be used to practice the labor for efficiency.that in the long run would better to stop allowing child labor to still be practiced. Effect:The effect of using this sentence is just to provide more information on the practice of child labor.
