...Team Analysis When working with a group or team there should be a “constitution” in place for any situation that may occur. There can be many different names for such a document in this instance it is a team charter. The team charter is an excellent way to ensure that every team member is treated fairly and does his/her share. In constructing a team charter for Learning Team C (three individuals) not every member had input. For sake of this analysis the individuals in Team C will be Member 1, Member 2, and Member 3. The communication was not clear in the beginning. Member 1 did not have any input in the comprising the Member 1 is a procrastinator and unorganized. Once Member 2 and 3 did have contact with Member 1, the member was combative and annoyed that the charter was completed without the member. The member’s personality indicated that he/she cannot be trusted to complete assignments in a timely manner. Although, Member 1 was very vocal after the fact, the member does not have a dominant personality. The member can be easily led. Having the Learning Team Charter will be most helpful in this instance; not only for Member 1 but also for Members 2 and 3. The charter will set standards. The Learning Charter will place each member on common ground (hopefully in the future) to work toward the common goal. The charter will be effective in minimizing miscommunication amongst the team. ...Analysis of Intuit and Organizational Change This paper will follow a case study regarding the company Intuit, called Conspiracy of Change at Intuit. Intuit was a successful software company that enjoyed an 80 percent market share in each of its three product lines; it was one of the few companies still left that directly competed with Microsoft and still emerged on top (Jick & Peiperl, 2003, p.5). However with the increasing popularity of the internet it recognized that it needed to innovate in order to still remain relevant, “avoiding a downward spiral meant facing up to the Net, which had huge implications for Intuit’s strategy” (Jick et al., 2003, p.6). They decided to embrace this new technology and change the way the company conducted business. The case study showed the problems the company had with innovation and delivering new services to a newly immerging customer base (internet users). Intuit’s foresight and innovation allowed the company to remain competitive in an ever changing software market. This paper will analyze various concepts and models that applied to their success through the company’s recognition for the need for modernization and a new customer base, and through its recognition for the need for cultural change and employee empowerment. The change that Intuit experienced was born out of necessity; they were faced with a drop in demand for their current products and were behind in exploiting a growing internet market. This need for innovation is categorized...

...Amanda Boothe Professor Anu Williams Communications 110 June 1, 2012 In the US, it is commonly believed that image is everything. I have to agree with this statement because a person’s image says a lot. The way you look, dress, talk, and overall present yourself influence the way people look at you. In the workplace, employers want well groomed, clean cut, attractive people. For example, say two different people (both males) apply for the same position. One male is wearing a business suit, clean cut, and clean shaven. The other male has on jeans, a nice polo, has stringy long hair, and a little beard. Odds are the first male will get the job, just because he “looks” cleaner. The same goes for females. The first female is older, obese, wearing a dress, with her hair pulled up. The second female is young, tan, nice business suit, hair fixed in curls. Chances are the second female will get the position. There have been studies done to show situations like this are happening in America today. As an employee of a great company, I always try to look my best. I always dress nicely and fix my hair and make up. I hope my employer and other employees see me as a nice dressed, professional young lady. On the other hand, on the weekends, it is a different story. If I’m at home or just going to the store, I’m usually just in comfortable clothes, with a thrown up hairstyle! Another example of how image is everything is the way people communicate and their assertiveness. Being...

GM was basically formed as a holding company for Buick. Although GM owned aircraft in the 1930’s; their main focus was on motorized vehicles. Later, GM became one of the largest automobile manufactures in the US, “With the headquarters located at the Renaissance Center in Detroit, Michigan; GM employed over 212,000 employees worldwide according to General motors” (General motors). However, around 2005, GM began to fail which hurt employees and their benefits as well as crippling Detroit’s economy. Help was on the way, according to Chris Woodyard in his article written in USA Today called, GM Bailout Played Over 5 Years. He stated Dec. 19, 2008 “The Bush Administration announces plans to bail out Detroit's auto industry, notably General Motors and Chrysler Group” (Woodyard, 2013). Despite the Bush and the Obama’s administrations help, GM filed for bankruptcy on June 1 2009. General Motors is now showing signs of recovery, according to James R Healey in his recent article...

...The companies that will be the focus of my project are Devry University and Chamberlain College of Nursing, both apart of DeVry Inc. DeVry Inc. is the parent organization for Advanced Academics Inc, American University of the Caribbean, Becker Professional Review, Carrington College California, Chamberlain College of Nursing, Devry University, Devry Brazil, Keller Graduate School of Management and Ross University. These institutions offer various programs in business, healthcare and technology and serve students in secondary through postsecondary education in addition to accounting and finance professionals (New York Times, 2013). Both Devry and Chamberlain have a organizational culture for its students that include fostering a learning environment that focuses in on small class sizes, practitioner faculty, industry focused curriculum and flexible scheduling. However as a former employee of both schools, I experienced that Chamberlain has higher enrollment of students compared to Devry University enrollment. Enrollment growth is normally critical to the for-profit education companies of DeVry Inc. This is important in order to meet revenue and profit expectations. Devry Inc. has reported a decline in new undergraduate student enrollment, the company’s largest and most profitable segment. But at Carrington College and Chamberlain College of Nursing were up, a sign that interests in vocational jobs are increasing (Devick, 2013). The impact of enrollment...

...COM/285 Audience Analysis This paper will elaborate on how to do an analysis on an audience. It will focus on audience characteristics, appropriate communication channels, audience diversity, and effective messaging. This information will be presented to the stakeholders, salespeople, managers, and to customers. The information from the quarterly report will be valued and respected effectively to communicate and provide feedback to quarterly sales. One of the best ways to conduct quarterly sales meeting is by face-to-face contact. Face-to-face presentation includes showing PowerPoint presentations, spreadsheets, and graphs to a group of people from a company that has investments in the company. A face-to-face contact allows the presenter to fully use their verbal and non-verbal communicative abilities. Because the meeting is happening in real time, the audience can participate in an active manner and ask for clarification of doubts or question they may have. When communicating in front of an audience, there are certain things that must be considered to prevent from offending anyone’s age, religion, race, sex, and culture. Beware of the different cultural groups within the organization. To help the presentation move along smoothly conduct research to identify values, attitudes, and philosophies. When a speaker has to deliver a powerful and important message to an audience, the speaker should first consider the characteristics of the audience. Analyzing the audience before...

...In The Silver Star by Jeannette Walls, Liz is an exceptionally intelligent and independent child for someone her age, of only fifteen years old. Because of her extreme responsibility and compassion for those around her, she is a great role model for Bean, her little sister. Other than being a role model, Liz's main purpose is to serve as the maternal figure for Bean since their birth mother leaves for weeks at a time, and is not around to support them. Liz shows her role by always taking care of Bean when their mom decides to leave. To begin, Liz achieved her maternal role to Bean, by getting a job of her own, "Liz had been doing some babysitting, but after Mom had been gone a week, she decided to take on extra work, and I got a job delivering Grit, a newspaper with useful stories..." (Walls 15). Liz knows that if she is not independent and got a job then there was no way that her and Bean could survive without their mother. Also it was her idea to leave for Byler so that the bandersnatchers, which is the girls word for the police, would not be able to take them away to Child Protective Services. Liz always knew what to do in these kind of situations, as we are told by Bean, which makes Liz very dependable. Also, Liz is remarkably intelligent, which we know because she is always complimented by teachers, parents and other adults about how outstanding she is. But not only is Liz considered to be smart in school, or "book smart", she also knows how to deal with the...

...Daniel Dyer Dr. Wheatley Financial Analysis April 5, 2012 A Team Shoes Comparison Throughout the simulation, A Team Shoes was challenged by other companies within the industry, but overall the firm’s differentiation strategy, with an emphasis on quality, was effective. When implementing a strategy, financial ratio analysis and analytical procedures on other financial measures can be extremely helpful in gauging a strategy’s success. Throughout the simulation, A Team’s management concentrated on several financial ratios and measures to adjust strategy accordingly. A Team’s analysis of earnings per share, debt to asset ratio, current ratio, net profit percentage, total asset turnover, revenue, cash on hand, stock price, warehouse expenses, and cost per pair played a large role in the firm’s success. Ratio Analysis * Earnings Per Share * Debt to Assets Ratio * Current Ratio * Net Profit Percentage * Total Asset Turnover One measure A Team’s management tracked was earnings per share vs. the best in industry (if no data point A Team was the Best in the Industry). Earnings per share is a market value ratio and is calculated by dividing net income by common shares outstanding. Throughout the simulation, A Team Shoes maintained a relatively high earnings per share number. In years four, five, and six the company was able to achieve the best earnings per share in the industry. This was primarily achieved by keeping earnings high relative to the...

...Redbook Magazine, which began in 1903 as a prominent woman’s literature magazine, has now evolved into one of the leading woman’s lifestyle magazines in the US (Newsstand). It's parent company describes it as “the total-life guide for every woman blazing her own path through adulthood and taking on new roles—wife, mom, homeowner—without letting go of the unique woman she’s worked so hard to become. (Hearst Corporation)” Therefore, this magazine presents the perfect environment to showcase an advertisement such as the Crystal Light ad. The magazine's popularity alone ensures that any ad among its pages will receive countless views from readers. However, an audience is not the only requirement for an ad to be effective; it is also necessary that the ad is presented in a way that is relevant to the specific clientele targeted by the magazine. The Crystal Light ad is effective in reaching its target audience by appealing to a woman's emotions, incorporating logic, and using captivating and inclusive imagery. The Crystal Light ad reaches its target audience by succinctly penetrating deep into the emotional desires of women universally. The first phrase says, “Take a moment to drink it all in.” Women long to enjoy life. Often the most enjoyable past time is miraculously having a break from the routine and mundane things done on a daily basis. Many women long to do as the old proverb said and have time to stop and smell the roses. In this ad, the wording is integral in resounding...

...Erin Mollberg September 14, 2015 TLC Analysis of Analgesic Drugs Introduction The purpose of this experiment was to determine the content of various over-the-counter analgesics using thin-layer chromatography. Experiment Scheme Equation 1: Near the bottom of a TLC plate, a small amount of a known analgesic was spotted about 1.0 cm away from the bottom of the plate along with a reference spot for the control. This was repeated on another plate using unknown analgesics. The plates were then placed in a jar of solvent to develop, where only the bottom of the plates were submerged. Once the solvent reached about 0.5 cm from the top, the plates were removed from the jar and the solvent front was marked on each. The plates were then observed with a UV light where spots were observed and sketched onto the plates. The retention factor (Rf) was then determined by measuring (in millimeters) the distance each spot had traveled relative to the solvent front. An iodine analysis was also done by placing the plates in a jar of iodine crystals until spots began to appear. The visibility and relative color of each spot was observed. Data Name | Formula | MW(g/mol) | Hazards | acetaminophen | C8H9NO2 | 151.17 | Irritant, harmful if excess swallowed. | aspirin | C9H8O4 | 180.16 | Irritant, harmful if excess swallowed. | caffeine | C8H10N4O2 | 194.09 | Irritant, harmful if excess swallowed. | salicylamide | C7H7NO2 | 137.14 | Irritant, harmful if excess swallowed...

...19 July 2010 A Passion Unleashed In the short story “The Storm” by Kate Chopin, the main character Calixta is a sexually repressed woman seemingly devoid of any passion or intimacy, until a chance encounter with a forbidden lover allows her to relax and release her inhibitions. Calixta's sexual repression comes as a result of the constraints of her marriage to her husband Bobinôt, as well as the moral constraints society has placed on her. She lives in a time period - the late 19th century - that does not condone suggestive or sexual behavior by women. She does not live life by her terms, instead she lives life according to what society deems appropriate. Calixta is introduced in the setting of her small two-room house sitting by a window, sewing. She is so engrossed in her sewing that she does not notice the approaching storm. Her husband Bobinôt and four-year old son Bibi have gone out, on foot, for food and are at Friedheimer’s store when the storm arrives. They decide to wait out the storm there. Calixta appears to have an apathetic attitude toward Bobinôt and Bibi being out. Chopin illustrates Calixta's seeming indifference in the following passage, “Calixta, at home, felt no uneasiness for their safety. She sat at a side window sewing furiously on a sewing machine. She was greatly occupied and did not notice the approaching storm” (109). When she recognizes a storm is approaching she seems more concerned with securing the house and grabbing Bobinôt’s...
