Today, the Democratic party is known for its liberalism and promotion of economic and social rights. However, the party was not founded on the basis of those principles. Instead, the party was founded with the belief that the government should limit intervention, with regards to social and economic affairs. In other words, the party was pro-conservative. Strangely enough, the party was established by a radical leader, who named he named the party the Democratic party because he represented the popular will of the people. This man was Andrew Jackson.
