...CASE STUDIES Amy’s Kitchen Case Study From start-up to leading natural and organic frozen food brand Reference Code: CSCM0256 Publication Date: August 2009 DATAMONITOR VIEW CATALYST Amy’s Kitchen was established by Andy and Rachel Berliner in 1987, and concentrates on the production of natural and organic meals. The company has dramatically expanded its product range in the 22 years since its founding from its one initial vegetable pot pie and in the fiscal year 2008, recorded revenues of 240million USD. The global economic crisis has been problematic for Amy’s Kitchen, as consumers seeking to make savings to their household budgets have reduced their spending on organic and natural food. However, core customers remain and many will continue to both regularly purchase the brand and be unpaid ambassadors for it, which has been part of its marketing success since its inception. SUMMARY • The Amy’s Kitchen company began as a business in 1987 in California and is named after Amy Berliner, the daughter of the two founders Andy and Rachel Berliner. The company has grown into the leading natural frozen food brand in the US, benefiting from the rise of the organic foods market. • The two founders had previous experience of working in the food industry with the Magic Mountain Herbal Tea Company and in the case of Rachel Berliner’s family from organic farming. This placed them in good stead for the creation of their organics company. • The company is resolutely in favor of...

...Henri produces only three products: breakfast muffins, fresh bread, and chocolate chip cookies. Although business has been good in the past few years, a lucky contact with a large chain has recently allowed it to expand its brand out of the local region. Growth has been high since the new contract went into effect. Andy Griff, the chief executive officer (CEO) and founder, has arranged a meeting with a venture capital firm next week. Hopefully the meeting will result in the sale of some of Henri’s stock and an opportunity to establish a significant line of credit with the venture capital firm. These extra funds, if Andy can secure them, should provide sufficient money to meet Henri’s growth targets for the next few years. The venture capital firm’s assessment team has asked Andy to provide a quarterly master budget for the year that just began, complete with pro forma financial statements, at the meeting. They have expressed special interest in Henri’s earnings per share (EPS), cash flow from operations, and profit margins, indicating that good numbers in these areas will be essential for final approval. In typical managerial style, Andy immediately assigned the task of creating the budget to Nicole Quarterman, who has just been hired as Henri’s controller. Since this project is her first assignment, Nicole started by making appointments with each of the divisional managers to gather information for the budget and also to learn more about the...

...years the business has been declining, due to using the old fashion method, and not using the most up to date technology to stay in today’s era with it’s other competitors. Although my grandfather had conducted a good business back in the 21st century, it now appears as though that new and improved methods need to be in place to his business booming. My grandfather had acquired a wealth of knowledge about the coffee business and unfortunately before he passed way he was unable to share the information with the family. My grandfather had an exceptional memory where he kept a note pad that tracked all inventory, payroll, and store information. My grandfather’s only advertising method was by word-of-mouth, he never recorded any family recipes or made a client list. The café didn’t have a marketing scheme in place to attract new customers. In order to bring the business into the 21st century, the café needs to gain a competitive advantage though the use of technology, deploy a wireless network for it’s customers through Customer Relationship Management, in which involves managing all aspects of a customer’s relationship with an organization to increase customer loyalty and retention and an organization’s profitability (Baltzan, Phillips 2009, pg. 493). Costs of using social networking are almost free, but with the increasing popularity, this is now a full-time position(s). Are the costs worth the return in investment? Approach: Milestone 1 will focus on Walt Disney World Parks, Disney Cruise Line, and Disney Vacation Club’s social networking on Facebook. I will review their posts during the first part of November, and give my opinion on the best, average, and worst posts based on the number of likes. I will also analyze each of those posts with the stats, and my opinion if it is a good business decision for social networking. Methodology: Disney posts many postings on Facebook each day. First we will focus Walt Disney World Parks use on Facebook. Walt Disney World (WDW) consists of four parks, (Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom), and two Water Parks (Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach). McDeere, at least not on paper. He had the brains, the ambition, the good looks. And he was hungry; with his background, he had to be. He was married, and that was mandatory. The Firm had never hired an unmarried lawyer, and it frowned heavily on divorce, as well as womanizing and drinking. Drug testing was in the contract. He had a degree in accounting, passed the CPA exam the first time he took it and wanted to be a tax lawyer, which of course was a requirement with a tax firm. He was white, and The Firm had never hired a black. They...

Permission is granted to copy, distribute and/or modify this document under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.1 or any later version published by the Free Software Foundation (see Appendix F for details). i Preface The previous edition of this manual was about using the software package called gretl to do various econometric tasks required in a typical two course undergraduate or masters level econometrics sequence. This version tries to do the same, but several enhancements have been made that will interest those teaching more advanced courses. I have come to appreciate the power and usefulness of gretl’s powerful scripting language, now called hansl. Hansl is powerful enough to do some serious computing, but simple enough for novices to learn. In this version of the book, you will find more information about writing functions and using loops to obtain basic results. The programs have been generalized in many instances so that they could be adapted for other uses if desired. As I learn more about hansl specifically...

...Introduction HOW SHOULD YOU INTERPRET YOUR SCORES? In the Answer key at the end of the each set of Listening and Reading answers you will find a chart which will help you assess if, on the basis of your practice test results, you are ready to take the IELTS exam. In interpreting your score, there are a number of points you should bear in mind. Your performance in the real IELTS test will be reported in two ways: there will be a Band Score from 1 to 9 for each of the modules and an Overall Band Score from 1 to 9, which is the average of your scores in the four modules. However, institutions considering your application are advised to look at both the Overall Band and the Bands for each module. They do this in order to see if you have the language skills needed for a particular course of study. For example, if your course has a lot of reading and writing, but no lectures, listening comprehension might be less important and a score of 5 in Listening might be acceptable if the Overall Band Score was 7. However, for a course where there are lots of lectures and spoken instructions, a score of 5 in Listening might be unacceptable even though the Overall Band Score was 7. Once you have marked your papers you should have some idea of whether your Listening and Reading skills are good enough for you to try the real IELTS test. If you did well enough in one module but not in others, you will have to decide for yourself whether you are ready to take the proper test yet...

Fear negatively shapes all aspects of the quality of life of America’s communities. The COPS Office recognizes that people not only need to be safe, but they also need to feel safe. Treating both of these issues as two parts of a greater whole is a critical aspect of community policing. That...
