After Sunday mass on June 23rd, 2013, Angela Henderson had to promptly take her son, Ryan Taylor to the hospital for a boil on his rear. The sudden need for urgent care left the defendant, Charles Mathis, his nieces, Aisha Taylor and Jacqueline Taylor, his nephew, Robert Taylor, and his sister, Diane Taylor, at 806 West Wingohocking Street in North Philadelphia where they all resided.
On the second floor of the home, Aisha Taylor and Jacqueline Taylor were watching TV and listening to music in their mother’s bedroom. Jacqueline Taylor decided to go downstairs, leaving Aisha Taylor alone in her bedroom. The defendant, Charles Mathis entered the room and stood at the doorway. Mathis approached Aisha Taylor; he proceeded to unzip and remove the girl’s pants. Mathis removed his own pants, pulled out his penis, and placed his penis near the girl’s vaginal region. Just as Mathis was about to penetrate the girl’s private part, Mathis stopped upon hearing Robert Taylor proceeding up the stairs. When Robert Taylor reached the top of the stairs, he saw Aisha Taylor fasten her pants and dart out of the room, and Mathis was getting off the bed to fasten his pants. Robert Taylor then ran down the stairs to report his findings to his grandmother, Diane Taylor. Diane Taylor proceeded to call the police …show more content…
Upon questioning, Aisha Taylor told the detective that the sexual abuse only happened once and that the defendant had never placed his penis inside of the girl. Sometime after the mother and her children’s arrival home, Beth Yocum, from the Department of Human Services, came to interview the children. As Ms. Yocum interviewed Robert Taylor, it was presented to her that this was not the first incident that was brought to the grandmother’s attention. Prior to the incident occurring upstairs, Robert Taylor had noted to his grandmother that he witnessed Mathis rubbing Aisha Taylor’s buttock in the

...McKinsey Global Institute July 2013 Game changers: Five opportunities for US growth and renewal The McKinsey Global Institute The McKinsey Global Institute (MGI), the business and economics research arm of McKinsey & Company, was established in 1990 to develop a deeper understanding of the evolving global economy. Our goal is to provide leaders in the commercial, public, and social sectors with the facts and insights on which to base management and policy decisions. MGI research combines the disciplines of economics and management, employing the analytical tools of economics with the insights of business leaders. Our “micro-to-macro” methodology examines microeconomic industry trends to better understand the broad macroeconomic forces affecting business strategy and public policy. MGI’s in-depth reports have covered more than 20 countries and 30 industries. Current research focuses on six themes: productivity and growth; natural resources; labor markets; the evolution of global financial markets; the economic impact of technology and innovation; and urbanization. Recent reports have assessed job creation, resource productivity, cities of the future, the economic impact of the Internet, and the future of manufacturing. MGI is led by two McKinsey & Company directors: Richard Dobbs and James Manyika. Michael Chui, Susan Lund, and Jaana Remes serve as MGI principals. Project teams are led by the MGI principals and a group of senior fellows, and include consultants from...

Feduni-General-Guide-to-Referencing-2014

...General guide to referencing 2014 edition From the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Quality) Many students find learning the unfamiliar nature of academic writing a challenging experience. The puzzling art of referencing is no exception, with its traditions and initially obscure formatting rules, referencing can seem to be an overwhelming and annoying requirement standing between you and submitting your assignment by the due date. This guide has been written especially for you, new and returning Federation University Australia (FedUni) students, to demystify referencing and provide numerous practical examples of when and how referencing should be used in your writing at FedUni. As you study, you’ll come to understand that referencing is just a set of rules that you need to follow to adequately acknowledge the work and thinking of others in your assignments. These rules are important because they allow your teachers to decide whether you’ve demonstrated that you understand the topic at hand and show that you have completed the assignment yourself. If you ignore the requirements to reference source materials in your assignment, your teacher may decide you have committed ‘plagiarism’. This means you have failed to reference according to the rules and in doing so, not demonstrated that you have used the work of others in your work. Plagiarism is a very serious matter that can result in unpleasant consequences for your studies and career. So please take the time to understand...

Siemers ISSN: 1439-2305 Globalization, Economic Freedom and Human Rights Axel Dreher a Martin Gassebner b Lars-H. R. Siemers c October 2010 Abstract Using the KOF Index of Globalization and two indices of economic freedom, we empirically analyze whether globalization and economic liberalization affect governments’ respect for human rights using a panel of 106 countries over the 1981-2004 period. According to our results, physical integrity rights significantly and robustly increase with globalization and economic freedom, while empowerment rights are not robustly affected. Due to the lack of consensus about the appropriate level of empowerment rights as compared to the outright rejection of any violation of physical integrity rights, the global community is presumably less effective in promoting empowerment rights. Essay On Hearing Loss

...than a second, at intervals greater than one second2. Impact noises are usually produced by quick gas expansion, such as that produced by firearms or bomb explosions. These types of sound can reach intensities of 140 dB SPL (sound pressure level) in frequencies around 2 and 3 kHz and, for this reason; they are harmful for human hearing3. When the human ear is exposed to impact noise, at a sound intensity of 120 dB or higher, there is a risk for acoustic trauma. This noise intensity can cause important and abrupt injuries to the cochlea, such as base membrane rupture, tissue and hair cell disarray. Clinically, one of the consequences of impact noise is an immediate and permanent unilateral or bilateral hearing loss, with tinnitus. In some cases, the hearing loss may improve after a few days4. Such a reversible elevation of auditory threshold produced by noise exposure is known as Temporary Threshold Shift (TTS). However, permanent exposure to intense noise damages the outer hair cells, especially those on the cochlear basal turn, very likely because this is the area of the organ which is more constantly stimulated5. This produces an irreversible elevation of auditory threshold following noise exposure associated with permanent pathological changes in cochlea known as Permanent Threshold Shift (PTS). The extent and the grade of the hearing damage has a direct relation with the sound pressure intensity, duration in time, frequency and the greater or lower susceptibility of the individual...

...Effects of Mega Events on Host Country’s Image: Image of China after the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Abstract Mega events have intrigued the academia because of the huge impact they have on the host countries. Not only do mega events catalyse urban regeneration, they also have the ability to command international media’s attention. Furthermore, nations have been known to use mega events such as the Olympic Games, FIFA World Cup, and World Fair to rebuild image and draw in tourists to serve the economic development of the region. While the Olympics are one of the most studied mega events, most of them emphasise on the Western perspective probably because only three out of twenty-six Summer Games have been held in Asia. The most recent one is the 2008 Beijing Olympics, which is the focus of this research. In particular, this study aims to explore China’s image change after the event and the influencing factors that contribute to the change. One’s perception and image change are emotional and subjective; therefore, this research can gain a better insight through qualitative approach. Twenty participants from sixteen countries were recruited and interviewed for 20-30 minutes regarding the Beijing Olympics and related news around that time. The findings showed that China achieved moderate success in rebuilding its image in the economic and technological aspects. Many interviewees were impressed by its organising ability and modernisation. However, China failed to change...
