...Security and ICT Audit Assignment 2 12-11-2012 A business continuity plan is the totality of plans made to recover the business operations following a disaster. A disaster is an event that causes a significant and perhaps prolonged disruption in the system availability. In this case the disaster is a fire which burned the office to the ground. Nothing could be salvaged from the ashes. There are a few measures included in the Business Continuity Plan of this travel agency, in order to provide an effective response. In this way they are still able to serve their customers and to continue their business operations. One of the key elements of a BCP is to consider what processes are critical and how quickly they should be resumed. In this way, you know what processes should be given priority and which may be delayed. By taking the critical processes as a basis, you can identify the critical resources and record them in the BCP. Those are the resources that are absolutely necessary to run the critical processes at an acceptable level. Measures: * From an IT process perspective: * Back-ups of the entire IT environment should be created frequently and tested periodically. Databases may contain e.g. information regarding reservations/bookings made, booking history, client databases and destinations. IT applications used for operational activities may also be recovered. * It should be possible to replace the back-up on new IT equipment. * From a facilities...

...Alex Narvais English 1302 Professor Hawley 2/10/13 Love and Time Shakespeare’s uses three of his poems to describe love and the passage of time. Sonnets twelve, sixty-four, and seventy-three all share this meaning by Shakespeare. Love comes in to play by explaining to “love well” cause time is not endless. Each poem has its own different plot on time and love. Sonnet sixty-four deals with the speaker telling his loved one that time will soon take them from each other. In Sonnet twelve the speaker is preaching that the only way to defeat time is to procreate. Finally, in Sonnet seventy-three an old man is reflecting on his past life and telling it to a younger man, hoping the young man will understand how quick life goes. The poems all start off with the speakers explaining what they have seen or have been through over their lives. The beginnings to the poems are very emotional and serious. They all use interesting word choice to describe how quick time has gone by. Sonnet twelve begins “When I do count the clock that tells the time, / And see the brave day suck in hideous night (Shakespeare, 1-2).” The word clock was used to explain how the speaker has watched time pass and night fall as his life has gone by so quickly. Sonnet seventy-three begins “ That time of year thou mayst in me behold / When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang (Shakespeare, 1-2).” The words behold and hand describe that the speaker is describing his life like the season autumn. The speaker...

...“Faster, faster… come on!” I urged under my breath, pedaling furiously. A thunderstorm had started, I was soaked to my skin, my stomach was growling and yet my bicycle refused to move faster. Getting back home was quite literally an uphill task as it was on top of a hill, sitting like a cream colored cherry on top of a green colored hill. The rain was not helping my quest to get back home in time for a nourishing dinner and a full night’s sleep, both of which had been recently denied to me due to the pressures of my new job. Avoiding the puddles formed in the potholes of the road, I made my way forward slowly but steadily. Thoughts of my father crept into my mind. His smile, his booming laughter, the fierce frown when someone, anyone, told him what to do were my most vivid memories. He had departed for his next life now; a tumor in his lungs made sure of that. Even though it had now been a year since his death, I still missed him. My mother had left me and my father when I was a mere 3-year old girl, impressionable and then, heart-broken. I have never trusted anyone completely ever since. I huffed and puffed up the hill and when I was close enough, I saw something which made my blood run cold. A streak of lightning. A fire. On the very top of the hill. I cycled like I had never cycled before. Memories of my father building the house swirled into my mind, too fast to separate. Panic seized my throat. I could not let it burn down. It was my only tangible...

...Wld Lit O Ms. Ziemlak Monday, November 28, 2011 Angela’s Ashes Questions: 1. I liked Angela’s Ashes a lot; I thought it was a very powerful literary text. The moment when Frank says, “ Worse than the ordinary miserable childhood is the miserable Irish childhood, and worse yet is a miserable Irish Catholic childhood” (6). At this moment I immediately could recognize that Angela’s Ashes was going to be an emotional memoir of the author’s life. I enjoyed the fact that this was a bildungsroman novel, meaning it was a coming-of-age novel. In being this type of novel we see how Frank evolves from a naïve boy into a man who is surely to prove nothing like his father. 2. Through the novel, I was able to identify the following themes: Drinking in Irish culture, Hunger and Food, Antagonism between Presbyterians vs. Catholics, Poverty, and Honor. Drinking in Irish culture, is seen as a way to escape the hardships of Irish life, Frank’s father uses this as an excuse to keep drinking, and he is also motivated by others to do so. Hunger and the value of food is one of the most important themes, given that a lot of the suffering the McCourt’s have to go through id the scarcity of food. Since their dad is an alcoholic who can’t keep a job, the kids usually suffered from sever hunger all the time, their dad would rather spend the little money he earned on a pint, and what was left was used on cigarettes for him and Angela. The Antagonism between the Catholics vs. Presbyterians is made...

...Angela's Ashes is a book so filled with remorse and sadness, it's amazing that the reader somehow finds themself completely and joyfully satisfied. The novel revolves around the penniless childhood of Frank McCourt and begins in America with four-year-old Frank and his three year-old brother Malachy, who bears the same name as his father, and the infant twins, Eugene and Oliver, and the memories of the baby Margaret, "already dead and gone." Your heart goes out to the poor family, blessed with a loving mother, Angela, and yet cursed with a father who means well, but is constantly drunk or yearning for the "pint," as they call it. Early in his life, McCourt's family moves to Ireland, with help from his aunts and grandmother. Unfortunately, money...

...THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS TRILOGY BOOK REVIEW SHADOWHUNTERS. The word that really caught my attention while walking down the hall of our local bookstore. The Mortal Instruments Trilogy is a young adult paranormal romance/urban fantasy, set in a colorful version of our reality where humans walk unaware of not just the vampires, werewolves, fey and warlocks, but also demons and their part-human enemies – the Shadowhunters. The author Judith Rumelt better known by her penname Cassandra Clare is a bestselling American author of young adult fiction. The books are inspired by the urban landscape of Manhattan, Cassandra’s favorite city. As I progress through, I found that the books are fast flowing with vivid characters, a lot of action, and interesting twists. The City of Bones, the first book of the trilogy, tells us about a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray, who live in New York City, discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a race of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures. As I read through the book I found each and every character such charming personalities, as if they where real. I become aware of there presence and starts to worry. The words used by Cassandra...

...German Defence Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg has stepped down after he was found to have copied large parts of his 2006 university doctorate thesis. Mr Guttenberg, considered until recently a possible candidate for chancellor, has already been stripped of his PhD. He told a news conference that it was "the most painful step of my life". Tens of thousands of German academics have written to Chancellor Angela Merkel complaining about his conduct. The plagiarism scandal led to him being nicknamed Baron Cut-and-Paste, Zu Copyberg and Zu Googleberg by the German media. But Ms Merkel had continued to stand by him, with her party facing three state elections later this month. Mr Guttenberg told reporters in Berlin that he was relinquishing all his political offices and he thanked the chancellor for her support, trust and understanding. "I must agree with my enemies who say that I was not appointed minister for self-defence, but defence minister," he said. "I was always ready to fight, but have to admit I have reached the limit of my strength." A 39-year-old aristocrat popular with the electorate, Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg is a member of the Christian Social Union (CSU), the Bavarian sister party of the chancellor's Christian Democrats. He came under pressure after a Bremen University law professor began reviewing his 2006 thesis with the aid of the internet. Reports emerged of a passage from a newspaper article that featured word for word, and then of a paragraph...

...communicate with. Naturally if we can't seem to understand another person, don't agree, or practice what they do we find people who we do have similarities with. As we are a multicultural nation, priding this country on its diversity, we still stick to our own sub-cultures within the larger culture. In order for people to communicate effectively, there must be steps to take so that we can assure another individual or group doesn't become ostracized. In order to begin this process we need to develop a better strategic flexibility (Hybels, S. 6). There are many factors that go into a multi-culture adapting to each other, but we cannot allow full ignorance and laziness to take over. In the article The multicultural cult, German chancellor Angela Merkel has said "multiculturalism has utterly failed." She goes on to give examples of why it has done so, including taking one group of poverty stricken people and placing them in an area of middle class, thinking they would strive or be better off there. The government didn't realize that without some form of adaptation, this wouldn't and hasn't worked. Instead the people who were placed there didn't know how to adapt to the in place cultural system. This lack of cohesiveness and confusion has only lead to unsuccessful complications, "in countries around the world, and over the centuries, peoples with jarring differences in language, culture, and values have been a major problem and, too often, sources of major disasters for the societies...

...multiculturalism in Britain has literally failed, because Britain has become one of Europe’s most active bases for terrorists’ spots. One of David Cameron’s biggest statements from his speech is that he claims that the main roots of this terror-problem is that because of multiculturalism has encouraged segregated communities where Islamic extremism can live and live separated lives, apart from each other. One of the problems is also that very religious people live by their own rules and faith, because of their holy scriptures and their religion, that they are having a hard time sticking to the law, democracy, human rights and social integration, because they are guided that much about their faith. He shares these attitudes with Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany and President Nicolas Sarkozy of France. One of David Cameron’s main arguments is that the racism or discrimination is mutual....
