The Anglo-Saxton culture has been a dominate influence in ethnic culture since the fifth century. Anglo-Saxton culture and institutes have roughly defined what other ethnic populations must become. Although originally comprised greatly of Welsh and Scots, Anglo-Saxton culture grew to consist of a large variety of ethnic populations. These ethnic populations each experienced discrimination, however, by those who have tried to maintain the institutional structure of the Anglo-Saxton core. With such a profound base in religion, schooling, language, and economics, the Anglo-Saxton core felt pressured when other minorities such as Germans, Mexicans, Latinos, and Irish entered with different views and beliefs. The flexibility of the Anglo-Saxton core and how they can accommodate key elements of other cultures while still retaining the essence of the core is up for debate. Such a debate is relevant in our own society as we have adopted much from the Anglo-Saxton core. Our society caters to many different ethnicities while still retaining our own culture, but as time passes the “melting pot” changes and diversifies. Is a society that has no clear cultural or institutional core viable? America has adapted many different ethnicities over time but have the ethnicities adapted to us? Many ethnicities try their hand at better lives by traveling to America. These ethnicities often find themselves contorting to America though, just as previous ethnicities contorted to the Anglo-Saxton core. Threat, prejudice, and discrimination are still very prevalent, although at much lesser intensities. In due time, whites may very well become a minority. By 2050, it is expected non-Hispanic white Americans will be 46% of the total population. Will non-Hispanic white Americans be discriminated upon as America’s population changes? Will our society have no clear culture if that happens? I believe
