Animals in Entertainment

...The Use of Animals for Human Entertainment Adults take children to the circus, zoo, rodeos, movies, and marine parks to see different kinds of animals quite frequently. When people are young, they grow accustomed to seeing animals in these different environments and do not think of the harm it is potentially causing the animals. People do not typically know the habitats and conditions in which the animals live; they just see charming animals. Animals are being removed from their natural habitats to be placed into captivity for human enjoyment. Numerous animals in entertainment are being treated in barbaric and harsh ways. The use of animals for human amusement certainly involves removing animals from their habitats and putting them into inhumane conditions. Numerous laws prohibit the use of animals in entertainment. Since animals are abused and exported for a few moments of human entertainment, laws must be implemented to protect animals from abuse and exportation for the selfish entertainment of people. The owners of animals in entertainment are often not willing to pay for the costs of large cages or are unable to have large cages for the animals. When these animals are enclosed in small and overcrowded spaces, it often leads to filthy living conditions and animals’ fighting for their territory. Fighting can cause physical injury and weakness to the animals. “A negative side-effect associated with the physical environment provided to dolphins in captivity has been...

Animal Abuse

...Every day in the United States animals are beaten, neglected, or forced to struggle for survival. Left in unsanitary conditions with no food or water, they have little hope as they live out their days without the compassion they deserve. Some are found and rescued, given the chance to experience how great life and humans can be; others aren't so lucky. To grow as a nation, we must fight for these abused animals' rights and severely punish heartless owners. It is up to us to speak for these creatures who lack a voice, for who will if we don't? One of the first steps in protecting animals and creating effective cruelty laws is knowing what animal cruelty actually is. There are two categories: passive cruelty and active cruelty. The first involves acts of omission, meaning the abuse happens as a result of neglect or lack of action. Passive cruelty might seem less serious, but that is not the case; it can lead to terrible pain and suffering, and ultimately death. Examples include starvation, dehydration, untreated parasite infestations, inadequate shelter in extreme weather conditions, and the failure to get medical care. Passive cruelty is sometimes due to the owner's ignorance, so many animal control officers will first try to educate neglectful owners on how to properly care for animals before giving them a citation or placing them under arrest. Active cruelty, on the other hand, is more well known and disturbing. Sometimes referred to as non-accidental injury, this type...

The Pros and Cons of Animal Testing

...Position Paper – The Pros and Cons of Animal Experimentation The Pros and Cons of Animal Experimentation Animal research has had a major role in many scientific and medical advances. It has both its advantages and disadvantages. “Moreover,” animal experimentation is an extremely controversial subject that has divided people into a group that either support animal testing or oppose it all together, and another that advocates the use of alternatives. There are many pros and cons when it comes to this subject. People all over the world have different opinions on weather animal lab testing is humane and necessary. Animal experimentation is unethical due to the practice of animal torture and suffering, animal choice and death of these animals. Animal experimentation (noun): any type of experiment performed on living animals, especially in order to test the effects of chemical compounds such as new drugs, cosmetics, food additives and pesticides (Animal experimentation, 2001). All over the world, people think differently on whether animal experimentation is an appropriate way to test medicines and products. Each year in the United States, an estimated 70 million animals are maimed, blinded, scalded, force-fed chemicals, genetically manipulated, and otherwise hurt and killed in the name of science, by private institutions, household product and cosmetics companies, government agencies, educational institutions, and scientific centers. Substances we use every day, such...

Animal Cruelty

...1013.087 9 December 2010 Cruelty towards Animals and Their Rights If killing animals was entertaining to the people by abusing them and possibly causing them to fight, would you join the cruel humans that are doing this just to have fun watching animals fight and be abused? Animal cruelty comes in different ways from animal abuse, fighting the animals, and even mistreating them. Cruelty to animals is growing all over the United States even out of the US, especially dog fighting and cock fighting has grown dramatically. Animals used for other purposes are being abused more. The poor animals feel pain and suffer every time they are killed or mistreated. Even though my own father commits animal cruelty, still does not change the way I feel towards animal cruelty. My father thinks it is not bad to fight roosters, but I always tell him that fighting them is very cruel to the rooster. Two main animals used for fighting are roosters and dogs. They are trained and forced to fight each other to death, which cock fighters find interesting and gamble their money. Animal Rights and Human Obligations Second Edition, Ed. by Tom Regan and Peter singer, specifies the rights of animals, treatment of animals, killing and value of life of animals, etc. It has various authors on each specific topic that makes it more interesting. I argue that animals should be given their rights and not be tortured by humans for no apparent reason...

Animal Cruelty

...Animal Cruelty It’s dark, quiet, and you’re all by yourself. You whine and yell for help but nobody seems to hear you. The people you thought were your family abandoned you, left you all alone in a small confined cage. There is no place to use the bathroom, other than where you stand. The awful stench of your faeces grows worse and worse each second. The only food they left you with, you ate in the first day. Now the only thing keeping you alive is your desperation to eat and drink your own waste and the will to survive. You are a dog left to die by its owners, with the thought that you are lower than humans and have no real importance or worth. I have always been an animal lover and it has always disgusted me to see an animal being mistreated. Even when I am watching a movie and an animal gets hurt I always cringe with sadness. I remember I had these neighbors; we were good friends with them. They always wanted to have a dog but either they never had the money to take care of a pet or they just did not know how. That never stopped them from constantly having a dog. I remember two specific dogs they had, one was a mixed bulldog, Daisy, and the other was a Jack Russell Terrier, Jack. Daisy was such a beautiful sweet dog, but the way she was treated was poor. If they did not have any dog food they would feed her cereal and milk. They also considered spraying her with a hose while she ran around in the backyard a bath. The worst thing that happened to her was that one day...

Animals

...Respecting All Animals: There’s No Difference x x Prof. x x Respecting All Animals: There’s No Difference The majority of people in this world consider animals just creatures put here on earth to serve a purpose, even more so-most react to their slaughter ,simply with a shrug of the shoulder, unimportant, and more commonly “a way of life” Many consider living conditions that would not be suitable for a person, to be suitable for a living animal. These animals are subjected to heinous conditions and treatment, supposedly for good reason. Of course, it seems to be a common principle amongst certain people to think that animals are not capable of possessing feelings, so maybe this is why the cruelty seems tolerated? As once acknowledged by René Descartes in Understanding Philosophy, regarded animals as “simply physical bodies that lacked minds or souls; thus, animals were similar to organic machines.” (Mosser, 2014, chap. 6.4) I will be analyzing how each of these issues contributes to the unethical and disrespectful treatment of our fellow animals and why we should no longer tolerate it. First off, the most important thing to point out is the fact that animals are used for many things, in constant disregard for their feelings I might add. Just like the previously mentioned living conditions- animals are subjected to the most inhumane practices that would not ever be suitable for the treatment of people. I suppose this is the exact reasoning behind the experimentation...

Animal Cruelty

...Animal Cruelty http://www.aspca.org/fight-cruelty/report-animal-cruelty/top-10-ways-to-prevent-animal-cruelty Here are some other signs and symptoms that we see in many of the cases we investigate: * Tick or flea infestations. Such a condition, if left untreated by a veterinarian, can lead to an animal's death. * Wounds on the body. * Patches of missing hair. * Extremely thin, starving animals. * Limping. * An owner striking or otherwise physically abusing an animal. * Dogs who are repeatedly left alone without food and water, often chained up in a yard. * Dogs who have been hit by cars-or are showing any of the signs listed above-and have not been taken to a veterinarian. * Dogs who are kept outside without shelter in extreme weather conditions. * Animals who cower in fear or act aggressively when approached by their owners. 1. Know who to call to report animal cruelty. Every state and every town are different. In some areas, you may have to rely on the police department to investigate animal cruelty; in others, you may have to contact local animal control or another municipal agency. Get to know and look out for the animals in your neighborhood. By being aware, you're more likely to notice, for example, that the dog next door who was once hefty has lost weight rapidly—a possible indicator of abuse.   3. The ASPCA animal cruelty awareness and animal welfare features a series of clips portraying dirty often injured animals in cages and crates. In the background, ‘In the Arms of an Angel’ by Sarah McLachlan is being playing. Then the clips stop and Sarah McLachlan appears sitting in a room, petting a large dog. Then she says, “Hi, I’m Sarah McLachlan, will you be an angel for a helpless animal? Every day, innocent animals are abused, beaten and neglected, and they’re crying out for help. ...look right through you. “Every hour an animal is abused.” A dog is seen hopping across the room; he is in, obvious pain. “For hundreds help came too late.” According to the video against animal cruelty, 3000 animals were rescued that year (2007). They were rescued from abuse, such as starvation and various levels of torture. This is what you see, tortured animals desperate for love, desperate for the abuse to stop, desperate for “An Angel.” How can this go on? Who would do such a thing? Won’t somebody, anybody help? * This commercial originally aired in early 2007 and has been the A.S.P.C.A.’s most successful fund-raising effort, raising over $30 million. (S. Thinking of the word puppy I think of nothing but wonderful things, sweet grunts, kisses and much more. As I sit here now I have to think puppy mill and that is truly terrifying. When it comes to Puppy Mills, many people do not know the extent of absolute horror any one puppy or dog lives through. Bulls For Entertainment Essay

...In this celebration, officials release many small bulls into the city streets and corral them toward the bullring and stadium where they later hold the bullfights with the matadors. As the citizens feel their bodies fill with adrenaline, many of them fail to realize if the bull hurt them or another of their fellow citizens. Spain is not the only country to experience death in relation to the use of bulls as a form of entertainment. In 2012, many Colombians reacted in anger when part of their festival involved the killing of a bull. Many animal rights activists called to ban the tradition in order to end the needless torture of animals. Although some locals believed that the festival had nothing wrong with it because it came from tradition, Jorge Otarola believed that “even though traditions should be respected, they must be updated to reduce the suffering of animals,” as he told reporters at The Associated Press. Despite the capital of Colombia, Bogota, banning the practice of bullfighting, many parts of the country continue to use it as entertainment and tradition within...
