Most of animal cruelty instances are actually never reported. This needs to change. People need to be responsible for their actions. Each and every day there are hundreds of animals affected by animal cruelty. Every hour an animal is beaten or abused. Animal Cruelty is a problem that many Americans want to make a change to. I recently viewed a commercial based on animal cruelly that was created for the BCSPCA called Sarah McLachlan: Animal Cruelty Commercial. Which displays a vast amount of ethos, pathos and logos.
Ethos is ethical appeal. With ethos the writer is trying to the convince the audience with credibility. In the BCSPCA’s Animal Cruelty Commercial, the commercial tries to convince the audience with the use of a celebrity. This commercial uses Sarah McLachlan. Most people are to be convinced if a celebrity is telling them to do something. Sarah McLachlan tries to convince the audience by saying, to donate to help the animals by calling or visiting the website.
Pathos is emotional appeal. With pathos the writer is trying to convince the audience by appealing to the audience’s emotion. In the BCSPCA’s Animal Cruelty Commercial the use of music, wording, and certain pictures are key to the success in the use of pathos in this commercial. Throughout the commercial there a playing a song in the background that is a very sad and depressing song. The song that Is played in the commercial …show more content…
This use is trying to convince the audience by the use of logic or reason. In the BCSPCA’s Animal Cruelty Commercial the use of logos is a little harder to identify. In the beginning the commercial mentions that “Every hour an animal is beaten or abused.” Also, the logical appeal is much more implied. It is just logical to think that abusing animals is wrong. It should be logical that people would like to help those animals that are suffering. Logos is more about statistics about a topic and this commercial does not put any stats in the

The Vegan Outreach advertisement, which is a smaller organization than the ASPCA, also promotes the well-being of animals, but does not quite compare to the ASPCA’s advertisements. The ASPCA advertisements are more effective than the Vegan Outreach’s because they apply the ethos and pathos tactics more adequately. The ethos tactic is demonstrated by using a well-known famous artist named Sara McLaughlin. Although she is most famous for her music, she is also known for her extreme love for animals. Her passion for animals aids trust and promotes more affection within the audience. Not only does it create a bond between her and the listeners, but it also catches their eye. Her fame is an attention grabber because it inspires people to want to be like her. The ASPCA advertisement is also highly effective because it employs the pathos appeal of empathy by providing heart-touching visuals of abused animals. A blacksmith that makes use of tools, such as the “Hammer,” “chain,” ”furnace,” and “anvil” in creating objects out of hot metal. The blacksmith represents a conventional image of artistic creation; here Blake applies it to the divine creation of the natural world. This is evident in L5:”In what distant deeps or skies”, refers to an otherworldly (“distant”) place, perhaps a kind of hell (“deeps”) or Heaven (“skies”). The “distant deeps or skies” bring to mind the concept of hell being underground and heaven being in the sky. Since the Tyger may have been created in either hell (deeps) “or” heaven (skies), it remains ambiguous as to whether the Tyger is good or bad. Blake was essentially an artist.
