...AND MUSIC So what is music? Well in a sense every sound produced from clapping two hands to slapping a person is music; The more recognized pundits define it as an arrangement of sounds in a pleasing sequence or combination to be sung; or played on instruments. Well who cares about music in a prolonged sense- music are something universal, something unique, and something which is soothing to our heart, our senses, which makes our nerves calm down- the effect is simply astonishing. Its like a web you have been caught in, a web of music, a web in which where ever you go you find music, music to touch your heart, to take you, in a sense, under its control. And why not- music tames the wildest beasts- even the critics have no answer to that Music is of many types- rock, jazz, classical raga, pop, flat, country, chamber, folk- yes folk is there too. Every community has some sort of traditional music to suit their rhythm. ...I heard many different sounds, saw various things and smelled tons of scents, some not so pleasant. All of theses places where similar but also very different. When I was in the National park I was able to hear animals, like the crunching of the leaves as squirrels scurried across them, the chirping of birds back in fourth to each other as if they where communicating, the frogs rabbeting, fly’s flying circles around my ear, I swear they where trying to annoy me on purpose. I saw trees with tons of green, veiny leaves, moist dirt, colorful flowers, and babbling creeks. This park was so green and peaceful. It was so quiet, all I could hear was nature. As I sat in my backyard not many things changed I still saw trees and streams but I also saw things like my dogs playing and then my old swing set swinging as the wind pushed it back and fourth. When I listened I didn’t hear as many subtle sounds but I heard a little bit more commotion. I heard my mom talking to my neighbors and cars driving by. Also the sound of the TV from inside, my dad making dinner, my brother pulling into the driveway. These things where much more lively than the park. But then I got to the Outdoor café called “Salt” in downtown Roswell where everything was much more chaotic. There was live music, horns honking, cars passing, people chattering, food being smoked, plates banging, silverware dropping, babies crying etc. it was so crazy and usually I wouldn’t have noticed all of the sound I would of usually just...

...to count to 20. As soon as the student was introduced with a counting song, she was very quick at learning the numbers because she sung numbers to tune. I think music also helps to develop visual skills and to think in abstract form as well. Singing also extends literacy skills such as pronunciation of words or articulation of phrases. However, when singing, teacher need to consider the literacy level of the class, that is how well students can sing the words. When students have difficulty with words while singing they are the ones having the trouble with tune and pitch of a song. Therefore it is very important to learn the songs. I think teaching singing is like teaching any other curriculum area. Teaching and learning to sing may sound or look simple but making students to understand and know the pitch, pattern and rhythm can be challenging. Therefore it needs to be explicitly taught, step-by-step, if one has to be successful in teaching and learning of music. I also believe the choice of the song plays a vital role in motivating children to learn to sing. For example, when my daughter was in Year 5 she left her singing group because the songs were not appropriate to her age level. They were singing songs they had already learned in Kindergarten such as Old Mac Donald. Playing instruments helps to build...

...Dolphin Stephen Mensah Animal When I think of a Dolphin, I think of smart, playful and entertaining creatures. Dolphins usually have a large forehead, and if you cut their teeth in half it makes a perfectly rounded circle. Every time that a dolphin comes to mind, I think of happy, joyful creatures that are friendly, since people and dolphins have a good relationship in our time. Even though dolphins weight around 350 pounds to be average, this isn’t quite heavy when being compared to other sea creatures. In fact, dolphins are one of the best swimmers in the ocean. Melody To help my audience get familiar with happy creature like dolphins, I chose a happy sounding instrument. I associate trumpets with dolphins since both have a ride range of pitches that they convey. The trumpet is a happy sounding instrument. To be more specific, the sounds that the trumpet makes and the noises that the dolphins make are quite similar. This can be seen with the communication of dolphins, since they give off a higher pitched happy sounding noise, similar to the trumpet. Accompaniment. I would use a piano to accompany the trumpet. Pianos also have a ride range of pitches that they can make just like the trumpet. Similarly to the trumpet, the piano has a happy sounding, joyful tune to its pitches. This directly relates to dolphins since dolphins also convey or give off happy sounding pitches with the noises that they make. If the audience doesn’t have any clue about dolphins, there’s no...

...would always be left startled and shaken, for the deafening sound of the blast would catch everyone’s attention. The ground would shake, and combined with the loud blasting sound, no matter what you were doing at that time, you would hear the sound and feel the earth moving beneath you. It did not matter how many times you heard the sound, every blast would send a chill down your spine. Not only humans, but animals would notice too. On hearing the blast the odd dog would start barking, as if to signal to other dogs, that would trigger a chain reaction and before you knew it all the dogs in the neighborhood would join, and for the next couple of minutes we would be treated to free dog Orchestra. Up to now however I still can’t make out what key they would be singing in, we just used to call it the discord key. I can still hear the sounds, high pitched and low pitched barking, which would gradually fade out and be followed by a chilling silence. The debate is still out there as to whether that was real silence, or just our ears note recovering and not hearing the low pitched sounds after the deafening sound of the blast. Growing up in an Iron mining town, one did not need a watch to know when it was 12 O’clock. For Every day right on time, the blasting in the humongous open cast mine would go off. Not only cracking the big iron ore rocks underneath, but letting everyone know that it was Midday. “I love the sound, of the blast” my mother would always say “For it announces...

...one if you were deaf or hearing impaired? Hearing dogs assist deaf individuals by alerting them to a variety of household sounds such as a door knock or doorbell, alarm clock, oven buzzer, telephone, baby cry, name call or smoke alarm. In 1970 a hearing-impaired women named Mrs. Elva Janke made a request for one because her old dog had died that helped her with alarming sounds in her home. She reached out to cities to help get her request/point across. Agnes McGrath the inventor of hearing dogs accepted the request and help the deaf and hearing impaired people in the world. Three years later after the request was made the “Hearing Ear Program” was transferred to the American Humane Association. In 1979 the “Hearing Ear Program” became Hearing Dog, Inc.Soon after the Hearing Dog, Inc. became International Hearing Dog Inc. The most important thing a Hearing Dog provides a person in public is an good awareness of his or her environment. A hearing dog job isn't to just alert deaf people of sounds in public, it's to...

...in some areas, for example, different age groups, involving kids. Not only involving screams, but sounds with the same amount of decibel to see if the reaction comes by a distinguish sound or decibel level. On the other hand, the experiment does show and interesting point, and that is how the different levels affect on different situations. How in some cases one can affect, but be totally numb on the other situation. The experiment that I liked the most was the monkey experiment, as it shows nature in its raw content, even though us humans are animals, we are contaminated by so many things that it almost feels like we are not part of nature anymore. As if our raw content was removed decades ago and we molded ourselves to a new being, separate from the others. Monkeys on the other hand, showed something great, in the experiment you can see that nature is so unpredictable, even in the most controllable scenarios, things don’t usually go as planned. There a thin line between what can be thought and what come in by nature, instinct or genetics. Scientist didn't fail at the monkey experiment, whether their goal was to try to teach monkeys to fear flowers or not, the experiment showed something else. As of right now, I don't know of anything that can come closer to that experiment of monkeys, as it set a great example for future researchers. Is it even possible to teach out animals out of their instincts and if so, can those teachings go from generation to generations? What...

... Male mosquitoes rely on their sense of hearing for breeding purposes. Because of the link between hearing and mating behavior, as well as their impact on human health, the hearing abilities of mosquitoes has been the subject of much study. The limit of mosquito hearing is approximately 2,000 Hertz. Mosquito Hearing Mosquitoes are equipped with two feathery antennae on their head, and they use these to hear. The antennae are attached at the base to circular structures called Johnston’s organs. Mosquitoes engage in an active, metabolically driven hearing; the antennae filaments are tuned, and adjusted to various frequencies and sound levels. For a long time, females were thought to be deaf, but a 2006 study by Gabriella Gibson and Ian Russell, published in “Current Biology,” demonstrated that females can hear. Flight Tones The buzzing sound of mosquitoes is caused by the vibration of their wings, and is termed a flight tone. The flight tone of female mosquitoes is about 400 Hertz, and males have hearing that is tuned selectively to the frequency range of 300 to 400 Hertz. When a male perceives a female’s flight tone, he actively pursues her for mating. Courtship Mosquitoes have exquisite control over their wings, and by changing the rate they beat their wings, they can change the frequency of the buzzing. The study by Gibson and Russell showed not only that females can hear, but that courting pairs will synchronize their tones. Consistent with the hypothesis that these...

When I walked around the wooden corner I only see three. One which has three brown spots, and the rest of its body is black. He looks at me like he wants me to walk the five steps over to him and take him out of the vets office. I look around the office and I see more and more pets screaming “ Help me, Help me”. They have those deep brown eyes that look deep into my soul. I listen to the vet's assistant come out of one of the squared exam rooms. She says “ Patches.”. ...There was a kind of muffled sound. A sort of banging. And the world was moving weirdly, except for the wall I was sitting against. Wait, no, I'm moving. I'm rocking back and forth. And I'm.... in my room. Okay, when did that happen? The muffled sound becomes more distinct and sharpens into a grating, insistent shouting. "Cain! Cain, open this damn door up, I swear to God! Cain!" I wince and place my hands over my ears. Ugh, okay so that was George. What an ass. Thinking he can tell me what to do just because he's my guardian. The banging noise becomes louder and more frantic, as do George's yells. "Cain! Please, Cain, please open the door. Where the hell is Abel!?" Huh, where was the nerd? Probably down at the shelter, helping some little puppy dog or something....
