Animal Testing On Animals Essay

I have a very strong opinion about the testing of products on animals. It endangers animals and reduces the number count of that species, it is wasteful, unneeded, and most of all, it's immensely unethical. The animals are used for testing because often a product has a chemical or chemical mixture with unknown effects on a human, and they don't want to have a risk of being sued. They believe that an animal's life is less valuable than that of a human's. Like mentioned earlier, this method of testing products can endanger animals, but also dramatically decreases the number count of that breed. Some products are even tested upon endangered animals (illegal and extremely uncommon), leaving even less of that kind of animal. Even if certain animals live trough the traumatizing experience, they usually (almost always) live with an irregularity or abnormality, which gives them a rather unfair disadvantage in their natural habitat. Be it physically, mentally, or anything else, it is still unfair and shouldn't be …show more content…
The cost of running these tests are much more expensive than someone would suppose, and if it is government-related, they could even use our tax money. Another reason is that it uses a large amount of resources, in both the product itself, as well as the safe disposal of the animal. My last supporting reason for this topic is that the time, money, and resources spent on this research could've been used for actual human research. Instead of testing a new makeup or foot cream on a harmless, vulnerable animal, it could have of been used for things like cancer research, finding cures, or even wildlife conservation. Even though people may think testing on animals is an effective solution, something may not have the same effect on a mouse, rabbit, guinea pig, etc., as it would on a human. They waste a life of an animal, only to show that the test may be at fault, or even for their own self-centered

Essay On Animal Testing

...Research on animals, either dead or alive, is useless. The words “animal” and “research” both revolve around the ‘golden rule’. Respect for each other is key to living. It doesn't matter if you are human, animal, plant, or just an object (Ball, Norris 35-44). Everything on Earth has an effect. Animals are being hurt, neglected, and abused everyday (Singer 17-25). For all these reasons, Animals should not be used for scientific, cosmetic, or commercial testing. First, animals that undergo testing are put through both physical and emotional pain everyday. The emotional pain these animals are put through at a young age is jaw dropping. Millions of animals every year are taken prematurely from their mothers or caregivers (Spun 1). Animals would have grown to help the environment and humans, but instead, being taken away at such an early age, never had the chance to experience what some can (PETA 1). Medical students have learned what they need without the use of animals, which proves more qualified scientists can too (PETA 1). Most animals that are used for testing are rarely exposed to daylight or proper social and mental care because of the tiny enclosures they are kept in (Spun 1). The need for sunlight, especially at an early age,...

Animal Testing Argumentative Essay

...The assignment I chose was an argumentative essay about animal testing. I had to choose a topic and write a essay about wether I agree or disagree on it. On this assignment, I learned how to write an argument with facts and not using my opinion. In order to get a good grade on this assignment we had to turn it in by the due date, have at least five competed paragraphs, two claims that supported our ideas, and one claim that was against our idea. I did the assignment in class and my teacher helped too. I researched all my information, then I organized everything I wrote down on paper. It was really hard at first to find information about animal testing, but then I could summarize what they said and put it into words I understood. I chose...

Persuasive Essay On Animal Testing

...our main safety tests for new products and chemicals is on animals. Is this too crucial to human health and development to stop, or could we make a change? For years, animals have been used for product testing to be sure that the products are safe for humans, but this can cause deadly reactions on the animals. Since only five percent of animals are protected by the AWA (Animal Welfare Act), many animals are not safe in these labs. As an effect of the testing, many animals become blind, infected, sick, and in some cases, dead.A prime example is rabbits;they have hazardous chemicals rubbed into their eyes to test eye safety for humans. Other animals have products rubbed into shaved skin and are force-fed unhealthy chemicals. But it’s too important to human safety and development to stop the testing, right? We continue to test animals because the data from the tests help us make fewer mistakes in medicine. Because of this, we can make human use safer. Only few tests are irrelevant, but most tests are designed to give us the most accurate information. Chimpanzee’s DNA is 99% similar to humans, making the tests very accurate. Mice...

... given insufficient care, or die in the process of being kept in a research facility. Research institutions have the option to not allow the animals to be protected by the AWA or the Animal Welfare ACT; if the institutions are able to record that it was necessary for scientific use. (Susan) Records show that it is common for facilities to do this. The suggestion to do this often comes from someone working in the facility. After searching the USDA Animal Care database it was discovered that in the last twelve months sixteen facilities had violated the Environmental Enhancement requirements of the Animal Welfare Act. A USDA inspection on August eighth two-thousand eleven cited Mclean Hospital in Boston MA after finding a primate dead after only spending ten minutes in an experimental chamber. ...indifferent to them; that’s the essence of inhumanity” (Shaw). The use of animals in research and developmental projects, especially for purposes of determining the safety of substances such as foods or drugs is substandard. Animal testing is any scientific experiment or test in which a live animal is forced to undergo something that is going to cause them pain, suffering, distress or lasting harm. Animal experiments are not the same as taking a live animal to the vet; animals used in laboratories are deliberately harmed, and are usually killed at the end of the experiment. Animal experiments include force feeding animals with potentially harmful substances, exposure to radiation, surgically removing animal organs, forcing animals to inhale toxic gases, and subjecting animals too frightening situations to...

The majority of the medications that we are provided with today have been tested on animals before being introduced onto the market . Using animals in scientific research has forever since been a controversial topic for heated debates. Despite the fact that we often benefit from successful animal experimentation, the pain and death that hundreds of millions of animals are suffering from are not worth the welfare of human beings. In addition, many forward-thinking-scientists have developed alternatives that replace the use of animals and furthermore, provides more accurate data to the study of human health and diseases. ...Casey has always been a bit of an animal nut and if she joins PETA in the future, it would not be much of a surprise. However, she is often taking medications and using beauty products just like every other girl. She has recently been trying to change the meds and beauty products she uses or stops using them altogether because of her concerns with animal testing. The benefits of the medications were very obvious as well as with the beauty products to an extent but that didn’t matter to her. Casey said that “I can’t take something that has been cruelly tested on countless animals just so I can make myself feel a little better.” The results of not taking the prescribed medications were almost immediately apparent with Casey being all but bed-ridden yet still refusing to take the “tainted meds” as she called them. There are a lot of people who feel the same way that Casey does about animal testing. The core of the issue is pure ethics and what people believe to be right and wrong....

More than 10,000 children whose pregnant mothers took it for nausea were born with birth defects, including missing arms and legs. Thalidomide had not been tested on pregnant animals first.”. This is significant because, those ten thousand children could have been born as normal human beings. But, thalidomide wasn’t tested on animals so, any side effects were unknown. ...Animal Lives Matter Would you like to be abused daily to the point of death? The life of an animal that is used for research is very bleak. These animals are isolated in cages and the only time they’re out of them is to be poked and prodded with needles and infected with diseases meant to kill them. For that reason, animals should not be used for research and testing because they receive inhumane treatment, they have different physiology, and animals have rights. Animals should not be tested and researched on because the treatment they receive is inhumane. They are isolated, immobilized, forced to inhale toxic fumes, confined, and deprived of the natural life they deserve.
