...Adoption: The Negative Emotional Impact of Adoption Research Writing Introduction Growing up there is one point in time when all children wish they had different parents or wished they could be adopted by adults who are “cool, understandable, and rich” because out parents seemed to always find a way to ruin our lives. Unfortunately this is no wish for some children, being adopted by strangers is some children’s reality. Adoption is viewed as a lifetime commitment to raise babies or children who are not biologically yours into the best person they can be. People who adopt get that great sense of satisfaction that they reached out and changed a person’s life. Even though the adopters get that great sense of satisfaction, no one stops to think about the hurt and negative emotions that the adoptee may feel in regards to their adoption. Adoption can have a harmful negative reaction impact on the adoptees as they go through their journey of life. I believe that even though there are negative emotions that come with adoption there are some solutions such as therapy to cope with the emotions. MOLE PRINCETON UNIVERSITY Living it on the skin: Italian states, working illness A B S T R A C T In this article, I examine the codification of an Italian work-related illness caused by mobbing, a type of psychological harassment that emerged at the moment neoliberal policies transformed Italy’s historically protectionist labor market. I trace how the medicalization of mobbing has expanded workers’ access to compensation, resources, and discursive tools for criticizing neoliberal labor conditions, even as it has produced new structures of surveillance. I unravel the neoliberal politics of a state that protects workers’ health yet governs worker–citizens through an apparatus of medical experts. I find that workers’ labor problems are experienced and managed as bodily problems in ways important to remaking Italian citizenship. The Federal Employees Health Benefits Program and Medicare Part D serve as two illustrative examples of competition in health care today. Proper reforms to add further competition to the health care industry would be quite significant and would further America’s position as the world’s leader in health care for years to come. KEY POINTS 1. The body of peer-reviewed academic literature suggests that health care can and should operate like a traditional market. 2. Market-oriented reforms have the potential to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of care, as demonstrated by the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP) and Medicare Part D. 3. Consumer-driven health plans are viable alternatives to traditional plans, and consumers should have the option of choosing such plans. 4. Proper risk adjustment mechanisms can prevent adverse selection. 5. Migrating toward value-based payment systems will result in greater quality of care at lower costs, in part by incentivizing the health care industry to make great strides in offering integrated care, innovative treatments, and personalized medicine.
