...Before starting the annotated bibliography, I was very confused because the prompt had stated that I had to construct an annotated bibliography that was two to three pages. It was shocking to me since it sounded like an extremely difficult task compared to the other papers I wrote. Luckily, that was just a mistake and the prompt actually required a paragraph summarizing each secondary source. With that in mind as well as the example summary, I was able to complete the annotated bibliography on time. Similar to the other papers, I had to question the rhetorical situation first. Like always, the readers are my professors, meaning that I did not need to elaborate too much on the primary sources. I also considered the genre of the story I had...

Therefore their annotations will deal with how the material is useful in that area. The annotations in this example are not 150 words but yours MUST be. You would be expected to add such items as useful quotes, passages etc. that you could use in your essay as support for your thesis. Davis, Lloyd. “’Death-Marked Love’: Desire and Presence in Romeo and Juliet.” Shakespeare Survey 49 (1996): 57-67. Knowing that the love of Romeo and Juliet will end in tragedy from the onset of the play, it is how the events of the play lead to the tragedy that is the essence of the play. Davis explores the darkness and deceit connected with desire and love. Holmer, Joan Ozark. “’Draw if you be men’: Saviolo’s Significance in Romeo and Juliet.” Shakespeare Quarterly 45.2 (1994): 163-189. The fencing material in the play is probably derived from the fencing manual of Saviolo, Vincentio Saviolo his Practise. Salviolo’s ideal view that “condemns male quarrelsomeness as irrational when it pursues personal revenge rather than godly truth and justice” is a source for both tragic and comic elements in the play (189). Levin, Harry. “Form and Formality in Romeo and Juliet.” Shakespeare Quarterly 11.1 (1960): 3-11. Levin points to the unconventionality of the play. Such scenes include the eavesdropping...

...Annotated Bibliography Garrison, Jr., Joseph M. The Past and Present in “That Evening Sun”. Studies in Short Fiction; Summer76, Vol. 13 Issue 3, p371, 3p. Joseph Garrison created a fairly accurate interpretation of the perceptions presented in the story of “That Evening Sun.” He clearly presented his explanations and arguments for why he believed that the story is written more from the boy Quentin’s point of view rather than that of the older Quentin that is presented at the beginning of the story. Reading supporting articles can sometimes be necessary when reading older classic stories. Faulkner is one of those that sometimes require background reading. Garrisons accurate perceptions of the writings make him a highly recommended source to return to. He took the story “That Evening Sun” and carefully examined and explained several of the areas in the story. For example he explained the staircase scene from the point of view of Quentin. Garrison explains why Quentin keeps returning to Nancy’s hands. Garrison’s evaluation of the text helps the reader understand the underlying issues that present themselves throughout the story. This article along with the story “That Evening Sun” could be utilized in a classroom setting as a learning tool and would work great for writing a bibliography. It can also be used for studying the ways that works were written during different times. There is so much that could be pulled from this single piece to build upon and assist a writer in...

...(317)274-2049 (317)278-8171 www.iupui.edu/~uwc “Because writers need readers” Preparing an Annotated Bibliography Classes that require you to do research often require an annotated bibliography. An annotated bibliography is a useful way to start a research project because it asks you to collect and summarize sources that you might use later in a research paper. Collecting and summarizing sources early in the research process helps you narrow your research topic. The bibliography can also help you evaluate the possible usefulness of source material for later use in a paper. This handout is designed to show you how to create an annotated bibliography. Specifically, it will guide you through the process of creating an annotated bibliography by 1) describing in general terms the meaning of the words “annotated bibliography,” 2) explaining in general terms how to write an annotated bibliography, and 3) offering an example of what an annotated bibliography could look like. However, it is important to note that individual instructors may have different requirements for their annotated bibliography assignments. Please check with your teacher or assignment sheet BEFORE following the advice in this handout. What is an Annotated Bibliography? If you have been assigned to write an annotated bibliography, you might be confused about what the words "annotated" and "bibliography" mean. The word “annotated” is the past tense form of the verb “to annotate” which means to summarize. An annotation...

...an Annotated Bibliography? An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, articles, and documents on a related topic. Each citation is followed by a brief (30150 word) descriptive paragraph. The purpose of the annotation is to critically evaluate the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources you have cited and help other researchers locate valuable information. Steps in Creating an Annotated Bibliography: 1. Locate books, periodicals, and other sources that may contain information on your topic. 2. Critically examine the items. For a book, scan the jacket, introduction, table of contents and index. For an article, carefully review the abstract and main headings in the text. 3. After the initial review, select those works that provide useful information/perspectives on your topic. 4. Create an APA style reference entry for each item. 5. Immediately below the reference entry compose a concise paragraph that summarizes the central theme and scope of each book, article, film, essay, website, government report, etc. Typically, an annotation includes: 1 o information on the authority or background of the author 2 o a description of the intended audience for the work 3 o a comparison/contrast of the usefulness of this work with other items cited in the bibliography 4 o information that you discovered that would help another researcher investigating the same topic. Format for an APA Annotated Bibliography...
