...Kaitlin Anderson Period 3. Pitcock School Announcements Morning announcements are very important. They are needed for informing students and staff of current deadlines, dates , and practice times ex. There is no way that schools could do away with announcements, but there are ways that would be more efficient for students to recieve the information. In the mornings hardly anyone wants to sit and listen to a teacher ramble on for fifteen minutes about useless information that does not concern or interest them. In order for students to become more interested in the morning announcements, it would be helpful if that fiftteen minute rambul could be minimized to a five to eight minute short and to the point update. Students would probably be more willing to sit more quietly and respectfully during announcements if they were not so long and drawn out. The announcements can be very boring. The announcer will read a whole powerpoint word for word, and not forget to leave any detail out. The timing for when the announcements are read should be changed. Instead of doing them in the mornings they should be done before lunch and then at the end of the day. People are tired in the mornings and are normally not fully awake to comprehend or obtain the information that could pertain to them. If the announcements were to be changed and read before the first lunch, students are more awake because the school day is almost over. Also students show up late to school and normally dont...

There is a drastic rise in food borne illnesses spreading throughout the community of local farmers who supply their own farm animal and residents who purchase dairy products and meats. We as a community are not aware of the many ways that the community can prevent food borne illness. Many problems can be very easily prevented, if we all follow a few safety guidelines and instructions from the CDC, FDA, and the local Health Department. There are many safety issues when purchasing, storage, and presentation of many meats and dairy products. One of the biggest safety issue is washing hands thoroughly with warm water and soap before handling of meat poultry, and seafood’s. Never wash meats, washing raw meat and poultry can help bacteria spread because juices may splash onto your sink, and countertops. Always make sure washing the cutting boards, dishes, and utensil after uses will help with cross contamination. Whenever, you are purchasing groceries at your local supermarket, always separate ready to eat foods and raw meat or poultry in the shopping cart, shopping bags, and your refrigerator. While preparing and handling foods at home also consider placing raw meat or poultry from dripping onto other foods by placing it in sealed containers or sealed plastic zip lock and placed in the freezer In preparation (cooking) many people...

After much heart-searching of: parents’ advises, personal hobby, society’s expectation, financial budget…What should we choose when facing such a tough question? In the article “Who are you and what are you doing here?” published in the Oxford American, a Southern literary journal, professor Mark Edmundson gives his own answer from the conclusions he’s drawn from experiences and perception in life. After reading the article, I choose to do my public service announcement in the form of a poster. Part II: As a university professor, Edmundson states targeted readers clearly in the beginning of the article: “the incoming class”, i.e., the incoming college freshmen. Through the essay, the author encourages students to follow dream and study what they’re truly passionate about, not only to comprehend what they’ve learnt but also to apprehend its value to you. He argues against commonly-held view that the mere reason to use higher education is to nail down a high-paying job. “Welcome and congratulations: Getting to the first day of college is a major achievement.” –The author begins the article with an exclamative sentence giving reader –freshmen to be specific- the feeling of achievement satisfaction. Moreover, these warm “welcome” and “congratulations” bring different...

...Public Service Announcements (PSAs): Everybody has seen a few (mainly because they tend to interrupt everyone's favorite shows at the best part). But does everyone pay attention to them? Many people would suggest not; after all, PSAs are just annoying anti-smoking ads, right? Fortunately, those who would claim that are wrong. Truth be told, PSAs have been proven to be very effective. They are actually proven to reduce the number of distracted driving incidents. So if they are so successful, why do people think they're not? Let's look at the details, shall we? First, let us take the time to point out that not all PSAs are anti-smoking ads. Public Service Announcements are used for a large variety of causes, such as raising awareness to breast cancer and Alzheimer's, preventing the use of drugs and alcohol, motivating students to excel in their studies, etc. Companies pay to produce PSAs for whatever they feel is important for the public to know. These announcements are not meant to...

...Public Service Announcement Paper Timothy A. Owens SCI/220 June 23, 2014 Carlos J. Carmona Public Service Announcement Paper Attention consumers are you aware that foodborne issues can lead to serious illnesses or death. Foodborne illnesses effect more than 48 million people a year. Children are more susceptible to foodborne illnesses than adults are. If one is not concerned about him or herself, think of how quickly germs spread from one child to another. Storage Are you aware that perishable items should be the last items on the cart after selecting other items? This prevents spoilage. Refrigeration of perishables should take place within two hours of purchase and 1-hour of purchase if the temperature is above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. A helpful hint is to check one’s refrigerator or freezer’s thermostat periodically. The temperature of one’s refrigerator should be set at 40 degrees Fahrenheit or lower, and the freeze temperature set at 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Many American are unaware of how long products such as fish, ground meats, and poultry can remain refrigerated or uncooked before bacteria starts to build. As a consumer, are you aware? The cdc.gov website is to freeze or cook these items within two days of purchase. ...What is Teen Dating Violence? Teen Dating Violence (TDV) is described as the physical, emotional, or sexual abuse that occurs within a relationship while dating. TDV can occur in person, or electronically by a current or former partner (CDC, 2014). Many adolescents and adults are unaware of the prevalence of TDV but a recent national study revealed that nearly 10% of adolescents have reported being hit, slapped, or intentionally physically hurt by someone they had claimed to be dating (CDC, 2014). About 20% of adult women who reported experiencing some form of intimate partner violence (IPV) also reported experiencing TDV between the ages of 11-17 (CDC, 2014). Also, black students experience TDV (14%) at a significantly higher rate than their white peers (8.9%) (Rothman, 2013). TDV is a very important issue to address because as teens mature mentally and emotionally, they are heavily influenced by previous relational experiences. If they do not cultivate positive, healthy relationships, TDV can be a dangerous precursor to experiencing IPV as adults. Victims of TDV are more likely to do poorly in school, binge drink, commit suicide, and engage in physical altercations (CDC, 2014). There are several risk factors involved with TDV. There is an increased risk for toxic relationships for teens who believe that physical violence is a constructive way to express anger in a relationship, use alcohol or drugs, have violent friends, have multiple sex partners, are depressed or anxious...

...Brianna Henderson Professor Katherine Kincer ENGL 1101 21 October 2014 She Couldn’t Say No Entering college comes with a new sense of freedom to do whatever a person wants. Partying and drinking, be it legal or illegal, is one of these freedoms. Its common, even encouraged and pressured that while out we partake in drinking and getting “wasted”. This has become a common stigma about college, and binge drinking has become a serious problem on all U.S. college campus. In an attempt to bring awareness of consequences of binge drinking Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board released a series of Public Service Announcements and launched a website to educate its target young audience to be careful while drinking. The public service announcements use very specific image and text placement, typography, and color to make their message evident in the still PSAs. In general when a person looks at something they scan left to right, top to bottom, or at least primarily in English speaking areas, as that is how we read. With this being so, the first things our eyes sees is (what appears to be) a young woman’s bare legs, slightly separated from knee down, and her underwear around her ankles. She is placed in a vulnerable looking position on a bathroom floor to express the terrible act that just happen. This image is large and takes up most of the ad’s space. The designer of this clearly wants the image to be seen as important and a driving point in the PSA. However, what appears to be the...
