...[pic][pic][pic] Chapter - I Introductory Part 1.1 Rationale of the report SME financing has been identified as a major bottleneck for Bangladeshi SME’s growth. Unfortunately the issue seems to be as unresolved as it always has been. Though the majority of the issues are with the SMEs themselves, the banks and non-banking financial institutions (NBFI) also have major issues in designing financial products for the SMEs. Banks and NBFIs always play a major role in our country’s economy. The number of branches of private bank and NBFI is increasing day by day. As the number is increasing, the competitive environment is making the firms to be more aggressive, innovative and diversified. As a NBFI, United Leasing Company (ULC) was established in 1989 by reputed foreign and local institutions in collaboration with IDA. The objective was to create an Institution that will cater to the investment needs of our economy. As the competition is rising in the market, so ULC is also going through some changes of processes. They have introduced a department for analyzing clients before financing named Credit Department for all types of financing including small, medium and corporate enterprise financing. This internship report is about the credit approval process for Small Enterprise Financing in ULC. 1.2 Origin of the report Now a day, education is not just limited to books and classrooms. In today’s world, education is the tool to understand the real world and apply...

...liability is to deliver significant returns to their depositors. Unlike returns to shareholders, this return is promised. Unless delivered, depositors may take back the return with a vengeance; bankrupting the bank in the process. The banks developed various form of debtor selection processes to protect themselves against depositors grudge, i.e. delinquency of borrowers. CRG (Credit Risk Grading) and CRR (Credit Risk Rating) together makes one of those processes. This report is titled “Predicting Delinquency of EBL’s Corporate Customers.” EBL is one of the leading private commercial banks of Bangladesh. After starting its operation in 1992, the bank established itself as one of the most technologically advanced banks of the country. EBL has been offering diverse portfolio of products to its customer. CRG process is a borrower selection process advised by Bangladesh Bank. Private commercial banks in Bangladesh use CRG to predict the possibility of delinquency in the form of CRR. EBL uses the same process. This report first develops a model to test the CRR against financial data of a firm. Data obtained from 35 borrowers of EBL were used to run a linear regression taking CRR ratings of respective firms as dependent variable. Running the regression, the model shows that CRR of a firm does not reflect the firm’s financial data properly. This in turn shows that the qualitative variables influence CRR more than financial variables. With a second model and taking presence of rescheduling...

...Compare and contrast the Companies Act 1963 -2009 with the Companies consolidation Bill 2011. Highlight the major differences and identify new initiatives in the Bill. The 1963 Act, by law the Principal Act, remains nominally the main Companies Act in Ireland today, but does not anymore provide a comprehensive statement of the law. Since 1977 it has continually been amended. The 1990 Act contains 262 sections of law and the 2001 Act contains 114 sections, although the Principal Act contains only 399 sections. The need for a consolidating Act is greater than ever as nine amending Acts of the Oireachtas and numerous statutory instruments have substantially changed the Principal Act. According to the Company Law Review Group’s (CLRG) report consolidation of the Companies Acts will be the third major consolidation in recent years of bodies of law impacting substantially on commercial activity. The advantages of consolidating significant bodies of legislation are set out clearly in the introduction to the Government proposals for the Taxes Consolidation Bill 1997. Some of these advantages are that all direct (tax) legislation will be available in a single up-to-date Act, in a coherent, orderly and more simplified format. As part of the process, a significant amount of unnecessary and obsolete material will be eliminated and there will be considerable simplification in content. All future amendments will be capable of being slotted into the Consolidation Act by amendment and...

VIETOR China “Unbalanced” We urgently need to transform the pattern of economic development,” pronounced Premier Wen Jiabao in March 2010. “We will work hard to put economic development on the track of endogenous growth, driven by innovation. — Premier Wen Jiabao, March 20101 Since the early 2000s, the success of China’s export-led growth strategy had been alienating major trade partners—especially Europe and the United States. By 2005, China’s trade surplus had reached $134 billion, of which $114 billion was with the United States alone. Foreign-invested firms accounted for more than half of this amount. 2 In the U.S., organized labor and various pundits and politicians increasingly blamed China for the loss of as many as 3.5 million manufacturing jobs.3 U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) became a leading voice calling for punitive tariffs if China did not allow its currency, the yuan, to appreciate.4 When China did allow the yuan to appreciate beginning in May 2005, the yuan grew by almost 21% over the next three years, from 8.3 to 6.8 yuan per dollar. However, in October 2008, China once again froze the exchange rate. By then, China's trade surplus with the United States had grown to $258 billion, while its overall current account surplus reached $426 billion. Although political complaints about China’s export-led growth model achieved limited traction, the global financial crisis brought the...

...materials to justify your viewpoint. INTRODUCTION Accounting can be broadly defined as the ‘measurement and communication’ of economic information to the decision makers (Watts and Zimmerman 1986). Accounting is divided into internal and external accounting on the basis of the users of the information (Spohr 2005). Spohr (2005) further highlights that the responsibility for preparing the external accounting information and publishing it lies with the managers of the firm. These managers rely on their inside knowledge of the firm’s current state to provide an accurate and fair picture of the financial state of the firm. The existence of accounting regulations and guidelines aims to improve the relevance and accuracy of the financial reports. However, this insider knowledge gained by managers can lead to information asymmetry. This occurs when some parties have an “information advantage” over others (Scott 2003). Information asymmetry allows managers to prepare and publish their financial statements in a manner which is most advantageous to them. Although this opportunism is restricted by the accounting standards and auditors which are independent to the firm, recent accounting scandals have led to the general belief that...
